What's new

WEST/EAST transition training classes

I am in class day after tomorrow. I can't wait to "molest" the door to see if it's "hot" like the Easties do!

What a joke....if there is fire outside your exit, you will either see it or know it because all the plastic on the door will be melting away (if you haven't already passed out from the toxic smoke). What is with the "caressing" of the door with the backs of your hands?? Shouldn't I buy the door dinner and drinks first?

Well you see, back in the day we had the 737-200 with the Tammy Faye Baker/ George Jettson's maid airstairs. The other doors got jealous as we kept reapplying her eyebrows and lipstick (It became a legend), so we decided to spread the love by groping the other doors. B)

I just finished my first phase of integration today. I was very impressed with the construction of the course and the presentation. It is an added benefit having instructors from the East side of the operation to explain new procedures.

I passed with flying colors and I haven't felt this "legacy" since my years with American in the Eighties!

By the way, the door and I really bonded during evac drills and I think we are going to elope to Las Vegas tonight!

Easties beware...you may be the only ones doing the "Wonderwomen pose". Commuting on HP and talking with crews who say Ha! We don't stand like wonderwomen in the center lsle. We point and talk like this...She lifts her hand to her side next to the door like shes shaking a finger back and forth once. Nothing is done in the center isle hands on hips. Is something management hopes to get the East to do. They do talk and point but not exagerated like its being taught.

Damn, someone always has to ruin it! I was seriously thinking of contacting Saturday Night Live for possible "script material"........those clowns would have a field day with THAT MANEUVER. (I just saw an old episode where the infamous "BahBye" ended up being 10minutes long.) I may as well scrap my Wonderwoman thigh high white boots then too.

Yeah the wonderwoman thing does not happen out west.

Speaking of which I had my first classroom training this past week. One instructor was the dude from the east video who blows into the life vest. He was a lot of fun. Training was great and the feedback from the east instructors was great.

I think Easties are just being taught "the procedure" and thats how instructors have to teach it. Everyone knows the "posing" doesn't happen in real life and the Easties are given "hints" that westies do the procedure, but more relaxed. Thats what a good friend told me on the East, he went through class recently. We do it in the West for the most part and it works, we just don't speak at a volume that is heard by the ramp or stand and pose like shown in that dvd.

I did see what I'll call a "Modified" Wonder Woman pose on 2 separate flights. It was mildly amusing, particularly since the women "protecting" the flight deck was so slight, I'm guessing maybe 110LBS

They are not protecting the flight deck when they are disarming the doors. They are preventing pax from creating a distraction that could cause someone to blow a slide.

I'm referring to when the pilot needs a "Bio-Break". No slide was being deployed at 30K feet.

I will however watch next time i'm on west metal for what you speak of.

Oh ok, my bad 😀

Speaking of the bio break....was told AWA doesn't bring the carts out because that dangerous to do...???HUH Thought the reason they get brought out was to help interupt danger.

CAMI/FAA/CAA/or others have not seem to have any proof that the CART moving keeps danger at bay. Thats we were told.

AWA does not move CARTS...

sky high states: This reminds me of the cockpit KEY debate during the Piedmont/USAir MERGER. Piedmont flight attendants had to knock on the door for entree. USAir Flight attendants were given KEYS. Upon integretion training, PI flight attendants were issued keys, much to the dislike of many PI pilots. As integretion occurred, the procedure that was followed was usually as per the CAPTAIN during the briefing. Same with the cart. I can live with the Captain and HIS/HER decision.

only stating opinions

Policy or not if the captain asks for the cart to be pulled across the aisle for a bio break you do it. It's his/her ship and though some can be real richar craniums, if they want it just do it. It's not hard. If a situation is going to happen how could the cart NOT slow them for at least a second? Well unless they can do a hurdle over the cart. I think it's stupid personally but hey, if thats what they want so be it.
