It may be too late for the AL heritage plane (I don't think they'd re-do it again) but which better represents the spirit of AL to you?

"three reds" (or three shade of rust, as some said)
"red/white/blue"

(I had meant to make this thread a poll, but guess I "fat fingered" it. Sorry.)

We had the Allegheny plane in--the red white and blue and I must admit that is a beautiful plane. I only remember Allegheny with the red rust job but anyhow it would be nice to see one more plane with that livery, one more PI with the 60's paint. not sure if PSA had another paint or not

Three other schemes, not counting the early DC-3/DC-4 days.
The original Electra/727 scheme, then a variation of same, and then the "70s scheme", which was similar in layout to the final scheme except that the the topmost stripe was HOT PINK rather than orange!
That's the one I like--it screams '70s"!!
The second 727 scheme (prior to the 'hot pink') can be seen quite well in the final sequence of "Bullitt" where McQueen is dodging planes (including a spanking-new PSA 727-200) on the tarmac at SFO.

I really think a "MOHAWK" retro is needed. The Gold and Black is coming back!

I think enough has been done already. We don't have to ride this horse to ground.

I recently saw the corrected PI & AL paint here in TPA. Both looked authentic with one exception. US AIRWAYS is in red on the PI plane, but dark blue on the AL plane. ALLEGHENY was red as was PIEDMONT. I'm surprised this was overlooked.

How about the USAir three shades of red from the 80's?

we have one guy who did work for Mohawk. He is disappointed that they didnt do a Mohawk liverly. That would be nice if they did one.
I also think may be a Lake Central and All American would be nice but oh well

I don't think I was familiar at all with the Allegheny sheme that was used for the retro jet. But I think it's REALLY sharp and cool and hip and retro. I was connected to PI prior USPI merger. I like old Allegheny over old PI. I do remember thinking that the rust-belt scheme of old USAir was just 'new coke' stupid as a marketing/design idea.... along with a name that isn't an acronym nor a word.

So.. for the retro Allegheny scheme...... so adopt the Allegheny scheme, keep the HQ in PHX and rename the airline Piedmont.

not shirley,
Thanks for the pics, believe it or not kinda miss the bac111..really felt you were flying back then.

Still my favorite....clean, simple, and classy!

Well that works with Boeing but what about Airbus? If you've ever seen an unpainted Airbus you'll know what I mean. I guess you could paint it silver.

Bare metal looks great if it is kept buffed. And looks awful when it is not. Before the blue top Airways scheme was introduced, the 767s in particular looked really bad.

A few US carriers tried the bare metal look in the early eighties, but you don't see many "naked" planes anymore ('cept AA, of course). Somewhere I read that the fuel savings did not offset the cost of upkeep.
(Wonder why it never caught on outside the US. SAS did try it on one DC-9 for a while.)

Anyhoo, the point of this thread wasn't to restart the whole heritage look topic. It was just to get to see which AL scheme people think better represented the Allegheny "feel". It think red/white/blue does, somehow. (And looks better, too.)

You're absolutely correct.....besides "clean" and "buffed" are not words commonly used at USAirways. 😀 Back on subject, the blue/white retro looks really good.
