Easy question to answer. Keeping ALPA = a new CBA and protection from future merger screwjobs (you know USAir won't be the acquirer). Your side blames the AWA pilots for not "fixing" your problem with Nicolau's decision. If (heaven forbid) USAPA wins that will become the West's problem that the East will need to fix. In effect, that's trading one chokehold for another. Right now your side is preventing contract talks but if USAPA wins it will be the West. The winner of this dispute, as always, will be Doug Parker. One must keep in mind this whole mess was started by the East thus the solution lays with them.
"A new CBA"? Based on..umm...what exactly? That the east will sign off on such as things stand?..That Alpo's even capable fo producing some "great new contract"?...Guess again. "protection from future merger screwjobs"??? Be serious please

I don't "blame" any AWA for not "fixing" anything, and where you get that idea's a mystery to me. That, with the advent of Nic/etc..the west feels full entitlement towards skipping merrily over people with far more actual seniority is on your heads, not mine, and frankly, speaks to me more of character deficiencies, or at best, rank opportunism more than anything else, but such doesn't make you accountable for the capriciousness of Alpoid "processes".
"Right now your side is preventing contract talks but if USAPA wins it will be the West" We'll see over time. Quite honestly..all I've seen/heard in total from west folk's been essentially variations on how everyone's "for sale"..which speaks volumes about the prevailing philosophy out there methinks. Most west folks seemed to find it utterly incomprehensible that "easties" wouldn't sell ourselves out for a few pieces of silver via pay parity. Eventual resolution by way of an improved contract hardly seems any impossibilty with your group..I could be wrong.
"One must keep in mind this whole mess was started by the East thus the solution lays with them." Apparently,....at least according to your viewpoint. I feel that an utterly incompetent "association" employing absurdly vague and innefective "processes" placed our groups into this mess..and they've/Alpo's got to go if this is ever to be cleaned up...period. If indeed "this whole mess was started by the east" and "thus, the solution lays with them"...It'd seem proper timing for the west to cease ranting, whining/threatening/et al....and observe the fixing of the mess. A rather "ancient" adage comes to mind here for future reference though: "If you're not part of the solution.....you're part of the problem".
