"ZZZZ... ssphtlst ZZZZZ... " The head comes up from under a red blanket at a line station. A "mechanic" under the blanket on a recliner wakes up enough to reply to somebody's comment about overtime policy.... "They effed me too". zzzz...

The "mechanic" has been on duty for less than two hours. Done for the night, and the check card says 6.5 hours.
The only reason he has a job at our airline is because the TWU saved his sorry backside time and time again. You know him/her. Every station has them. Of course I refer to the example at my line station. This individual has no idea how to fill out the E58 section of his check card, or at least never does - and wants a pay raise.

He/she is the REASON you and I can't get a pay increase, and at a time the industry can't seem to attract recalls to fill vacancies caused by attrition. That the company hides behind the collective bargaining process to keep wages down longer than the market would tolerate is a different topic.

It's time to throw the couch and recliner out the door along with the garbage holding you back.

You and I have no friends. You might as well jettison hope the TWU is going to help you. Help yourself. "NOW"!

Those of us who have or had recall rights turn them down because AA has nothing to offer.

What can you do? Nothing nowadays, used to be, if you had a guy not pulling his weight, you could whip his ass out behind the blast fence, and nothing was said. Now, that same guy is protected like a "spotted owl", if you say anything to him, it's article 32 harassment. I feel your pain, but until we get a union to police their own like they should, we have to pick up the dead weight.

As someone w/o a ticket, what's the E58 section entail?
An "E58" is a 4 part form that can be used as anything from a gripe sheet (stuff that's wrong re: an aircraft) to a turnover to the next shift, whoever might work on the aircraft later, or a Required Inspection (RII) or a release to be entered in a logbook or in some cases, a work order.

It's a legal document, all of which (the block of form serial numbers assigned to a particular aircraft) must be accounted for (supposedly) before an aircraft can be returned to service.

Somewhere between not much to a helluva lot re: importance. Similar to the Navy's MAF forms.

You don't need a Mechanic's Certification to be exposed to a gripe sheet

AA has them them on the management side too....way, way, too many. Worthless morons that do more damage to the operation that you can fathom because of their arrogance, stupidity, and lack of experience. They screw up one area, then are bounced on to another area to do the same thing, or they get a "new position" in the corner to keep them out of the way. They suck up a six-figure salary, and accomplish nothing. Can't get them to make a decision, because they don't know which one is the right one. I guess they keep these six-figure slugs around to have someone to blame when the manure hits the fan.

I guess it's one reason Arrogant Airlines lost $500 million in one quarter.....because nobody gives a rats ass.

YAWN....
Give em the gift of zero...
Just like they gave you in 03...
Nighty Night...
And turn out the light when your done crying about who is doing what 😉
Have to work my second job in he AM

You're dreaming if you think "he's" the reason the company doesnt want to pay us, they dont need an excuse, even if your buddy was out there humping all night they still wouldnt want to pay. The fact is they hired him and they didnt fire him, maybe he has more sense than you because he knows no matter how hard and dedicated he is the company will still screw him. If he worked hard all night the company would simply say, "Look how hard he works, he's obviously happy enough with what we pay him".

Focus on the company, not each other.

Or you could just focus on doing your job and portraying the image of a professional worth keeping around...

E58 is the "items found" and "action taken" section of a scheduled inspection. Left blank, it indicates the aircraft was completely perfect. 28 year - old MD-80, perfect. Ok, right.

Bob you are so far dug in, I sometimes wonder if there will be any hope for us to reach a agreement anytime soon? Yes its the companys fault for letting these goofs hang out and believe me we have are share in ord

We did that for the seven years since the concessions, didnt make a damn bit of difference, they still want to take away more and give us nothing.

Going in to 2003 my property taxes were around $6800 and my hourly wage was over $36, now my property taxes are over $11000 and my wage is around $32. Didnt move, didnt do any capital improvements, nothing, just the town passing increased costs on to the taxpayers. Pretty hard to focus when you are drowning. If they feel they can get rid of us they should go ahead and just do it, the fact is most of us are pretty much at the point where its hard to justify staying. So maybe those guys do exist, who are done two hours into their shift, and yet when he says he got screwed again he isnt that far off because more than likely he is resting so he can go to his other job where he goes to make up for the 40% paycut we took, so he can pay for his increased medical benifits and property taxes, fuel costs, groceries etc.

Now lets look at AA in 2003 they had 95000 employees, around 750 airplanes and brought in around $17.5 billion, now they have less than 80,000 employees , around 600 airplanes and will be bringing in around $22billion. So they are making a lot more with fewer employees to pay and fewer aircraft to maintain and lease but they expect us to continue to sacrifice.

Mean while back in TUL, they took away all the chairs that were in the tool box rooms, but were told it was OK to bring in your folding lawn/reclining chairs. Talk about mixed messages.

Does this manager ever stop to think that this guy may have another job or picks up many hours at the airport. Since our wages have been decimated by AA many of us have to work many more hours to make less then we did in 2003 when this contract was signed.

11k for property taxes..Man that hurts. Well I am sure you know that 36 an hr you made in 2003 was a result of our NW AMFA 2001 contract right? It wasn't anything the TWU did I can assure you of that. I talked to the guys here at FX and they didnt get a raise for 3 years until we got that contract at NW. So what was the thanks we got? Yeah guys furloughed from other airlines scabbed our jobs as well as a few losers from our own ranks. After that you at AA as well as most of the other mechanics who saw there wages rise after 2001 saw an equal drop in their pay after 2005 thanks to NW and the scabs busting AMFA. Thankfully a few companies kept the pay up like UPS, SWA and FX. I wish you guys the best but like I have said in the past sometimes we mechanics are our own worst enemy.
