Changes in First Class Catering?

Look at the silver lining....

It's better to cut back on food than our paycheck or our jobs!

Besides, do you really think passengers fly the airlines and get excited about the food?

What passengers want are on-time flights that will get them there from point A to point B. On time, safe and uneventful.

Southwest has the lowest complaints because there is no expectation. Passengers know that they are not getting anything, so they have nothing to complain about.

Before 9-11 and before desert storm, America West used to have excellent first class and coach service. We used to have free liquor in coach and 4 course meals in first class called signature service. However, due to the rising cost of everything they had to standardized the service.

I don't know why they still call first class, "first class". I thought they were changing it to "business class?"

I apologize to the flyers, but the airlines have to do what they have to do in order to survive.

The jaded attitude of "Twicebaked" is exactly why US is going NO WHERE Fast! And to think you work up in F/C........I'd rather be molested by the parish priest than be subjected to YOU and the "stellar" service YOU claim to provide. LMMFAO!

You are screwed up in the head! You keep laughing your a$$ off. That comment was soooo stupid. You don't know me, nor do you have any idea of what kind of service I can give. I can tell you this, if you come on my flight and act like a pompus a$$ you will get ONLY what the company requires me to do. We all put our pants on the same way and yes, your sh#$ does stink too. Unbelievable!!!! Get over yourself

Good point Astro, and for the sake of the vast majority of employees of US that are outstanding, I hope they wise up and rid their force of the trash and make this airline a success like it was in the past and hopefully will be in the future.

Enough of the personal attacks. Next time someone is getting some time off.

No kidding. We were gouged with high fares in PHL for many many years. Now, US keeps fares high and cuts back on service while its competition either (1) charges less and offers less or similar (Airtran); or (2) charges the same and offers more. American has seemed to do well with being a full service airline. Continental has fared well as a full service airline. These carriers are adding and adding to attract business customers while LCC snubs their nose at them.

There were other flights this week that sold food in Y while FC got nothing--that is ridiculous. Maybe its a screw-up, maybe not but the people in Tempe need to get their act together. They are sending a really bad message to their customers. And the previous poster is right, time is running out.

<snip>See Below</snip>

And to the other poster who says we don't pay for FC fares, wrong again. I can count at least 5 times last year that I paid to be in first. I'm sure people on the CP desk can tell you the same that people do buy those tickets, especially in certain markets.

What I don't understand is folks that post a personal attack directly under a post requesting that all personal attacks stop. The rest of your post is wonderfully crafted about the topic at hand. This isn't about a person but an issue, so lets stay focused on that.

Thank you.

im curious, does US hold meetings with its frequent fliers to discuss service and changes that they would like to see implemented? i know at Continental i have participated in more than a few...just curious.....

I was just reading the latest Unisys 'Scorecard' - it deals with changes in IT systems in the changing aviation industry - and one paragraph in the introduction jumped out at me:

"Certainly what better defines the classifications [of airlines] is the elimination of complexity and process, with the new generation carriers entering the marketplace less encumbered and the more successful traditional carriers shedding many of the outdated and redundant practices that added cost but little value."

Now, I know that HP wasn't a "traditional carrier" - they fell squarely in the "new generation" camp - but "old" US was most certainly a "traditional carrier". When I read the above, it struck me (or maybe just reinforced the feeling) that what the FF's are saying with their complaints is that in their view LCC has it backward.

What these folks are seeing is not a reduction of cost with little reduction in value. They're seeing a reduction in what they perceive as having value without a corresponding reduction in their cost.

BINGO!!!!!!

See ya next week and looking forward to it.

All this being said, I still don't understand how the company can justify selling a f/c ticket for the price they do with the service we provide.

It is real easy Travelpro the market will take care of it. One of 2 things will happen you will be right and rev will decrrease and the company will be forced to either reduce fares or improve the first class product or the changes to first will have little to no effect on revenue or rev could actualy grow. If the later happens then your point of view would be wrong. The market will decide this the company doesn't have to "justify" anything!

read the email from UA. the emails i get from US are not about appreciation directed to an elite member

Well, not sure what to tell you, but I get these as well. I will post the next one I get.

I happened to see a Dining & Cabin Service memo in the CLT crewroom back during the Thanksgiving holiday season of 2000, and it outlined the menu for the holiday flights. The HOT meal service in Y class on the “newâ€￾ Airbus cost $2.60/passenger, delivery included and consisted of the following... Sliced roast turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and stuffing served with a roll and slice of carrot cake.

I don’t think that it really would hurt the companys bottom line to have a premium first class product to offer our VVF’s. My guess is that a decent cold sandwich with a side salad and a slice of cake would run about $5.00/person to serve in FC on the shorter runs and offer a decent hot meal on the longer ones.

Here is a thought, why not just let the VFF and FC customer order a special meal when the book? That way if you want something its there for you on the flight, people that don’t want any food can snack out of the basket.

Offer better wine, and only show the level off video (ads) in Y class, on the Airbus we can do that at UEast.

Not all FC bookings are done in advance, many are done at the ticket counter or at the gate on day of travel.....
