Countdown to selling drinks

Oh ok. No big deal then. $10 more than US. Darn Delta...

I actually don't think Delta's move is a dumb one--whether or not I agree with the whole "charge for checked bags" concept. The reason I think it is better than the $15/$25 policies in place elsewhere is because:

1. It really encourages people to check only one bag without making them feel like they have to carry their entire household onboard while realizing that if they really need a 2nd bag they can do it for a "steep" charge.

2. It sends the message to customers that they can still check a bag for free and customers will think that there will be "no way" they will need a second bag until the night before and that will be when they realize they will have to $50--$10 more than other carriers.

3. There are probably a lot of people who need to check one bag, but when push comes to $50, maybe not which will also reduce the amount of luggage the airline has to handle and reduce weight on aircraft.

To quote Miss Jackson........What have you done for me lately?

Not a blasted thing. YOUR MANAGEMENT has taken it out of your pocket not your CUSTOMER. Get over it already.

Remember, it's MANAGEMENT who's pocket was lined by the stupid merger and stupid moves they continue to make. Your customers are just as screwed as your are.

So please quit using that "coming out of our pocket" line. It's old and tired and has no meaning anymore.

Ok, fair enough...or maybe not! How do you propose we recoup the losses generated by the staggering inflation of fuel? If it were your business-and it kinda is-how would you approach this challenge?

Remember; the internet allows the customer to conveniently shop-creating downward pressure on airline revenues. So how does one remain competitive in price-while raising enough revenues to minimize this drastic change in our business models? Don't forget, you have creditors and investors to keep happy.

So let's here it!

I have serious problems with not having any type of free "hydration" available for customers stuck on an airplane for 5 or 6 hours!!

I have a serious problem with flight attendants that don't realize that free hydration is an FAA requirement, and tha the new policy does not change that one little bit.

Free hydration means a cup of water (or as much as you care to drink) from the galley water spigot.

The regs do not require free carbonated beverages or free bottled water.

The real question is, how much "hydration" does one have to sell to offset the cost of one medical diversion caused by a lack of adequate hydration.

I feel it is past time for all the professional employees to quit compensating for poor construction, interpretation and analysis of Tempe's unrealistically optimistic spreadsheets. As that Baja-lodo says, let the cards fall where they may. Don't get stressed. If Tempe's perfidy results in an extra landing, so be it. Tempe wants the authority but wants you to take on the responsibility. Let them have both. Force Tempe to confront the reality of costs of the responsibilities they so blithely pass onto you.

Be certain to document anything to the FAA and the media. If everyone were to do this, once they realized the employees are not quite as submissive as they used to be, Tempe would back off in a very expeditious manner.

Heck, I have yet to see Iceland from the ground yet........ 😛h34r:

The problem is that they do specify, "potable", which goes beyond simply painting the letters "POTABLE" on the side of a tank truck.

I suggest people grab free water test kits, and, when things are slow, test the spigot water. Likely to be pretty interesting.

Side question. Any ruling on how the "hydration" is to be provided/presented? In cups, cupped hand or is a fire hose sufficient?

Delta's $75 second checked bag announcement today just TRUMPED the $2 drink sales.

but it will still be fun to see how many passengers are pissed off about this on my flights on Sunday.

OK I had a TYPO......... ........$50 not $75

It use to be free. Candy bars were once a nickle. Get over it.

If you don't sell one beverage...big deal

Give it away??? Can you say out-of-your-pocket? <_<

The stupid thing about this whole charge-a-beverage campaign is that airport concessions and vending machines will make the cash. They offer 20 oz. sodas, muscle drinks, energy drinks, gatorade, etc. for $2-3 depending on the drink.

Take it from someone who knows...f/as may have to clean up more drink bottles that weren't purchased on a us ac. The 'Kettles' are already bringing their food trash on board that they purchase before boarding!

Selling alcoholic drinks isn't a problem. Bars charge for non-alcoholic beverages. Why not US?

...don't do your job and let the chips fall where they may...

I'm counting down to my flight to CLT on Friday AM. The upgrade did not clear, so I will have a front row seat for the 3-ring circus.

Bars primary business is selling refreshment and entertainment. While this may be getting very entertaining, US Airways primary business is not running a bar.

It has to cost the airline less than 20 cents to purchase a soda. If you include catering costs that soda may cost 50 cents. But now the airline wants to make those sodas a profit center. The problem is that customers can turn around and bite. For an example, look to what is happening at Starbucks. They overpriced their product and the public is turning on them.

People are not buying Starbucks because they can't afford to. When it comes to cutting your personal spending a $5 cup of coffee is on the top of the list. I also don't see many people taking trips to the islands this year. It's not going to be easy on all the resorts who have been catering to americans with frequent flyer miles. Could on the other hand be a great time to nonrev and get a deal on a nice hotel.

Back on topic many airlines serve potable water as their water service. We all drink the coffee and tea that is made with it. NO BIG DEAL! I guess if you want something else you will have to pay for it or bring it with you.

"I have serious problems with not having any type of free "hydration" available for customers stuck on an airplane for 5 or 6 hours!!"

Hey, I just came home from an outdoor concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater here in CLT. Guess what-$9 for a large coke, $6 for a small. 90+ degrees outside-and better than 70% humidity. Only ones dropping were the drunks....everyone else was dropping the bucks on those over inflated prices for the cokes.

They don't have to screen these beverages for TSA, they don't have to truck them around to numerous locations to refill their gallies, and they don't have to pay to lift them off the ground and carry them throughout their system-WE DO! We have nothing to be ashamed of for charging for these services.

... The upgrade did not clear...

Pashaw! Didn't you hear? US Elites are leaving in DROVES! Droves I tell you! Why several members of this very board have been on here for more than a year telling us this unassailable "fact." Didn't you get the memo? Besides, it's commonly known here that Tempe's main objective is to drive every, single cotton-pickin' high yield traveler away who would even deign to purchase some kind of front-cabin fare.

Therefore, you must be flying on an aircraft that has not a single front-cabin seat on it, because according to accounts from these hairsafire you should be sitting pretty up front with the whole dang place to yourself.

Oh, but you couldn't get up there, so people are buying those fares, and Elites are around for the upgrade. Wow, amazingly none of those dire predictions have yet to come true.

Arrogance has once again paid off. 🙄

i cant believe they are actually going thru with this dumb move! i truely believe that the managment of this company hates its employees. this is just another way of making money on the backs of its employees. lets have doug and sherry come out of the castle and sell sodas on day one and see them listen to the rants of passengers. we are the only airline doing this, and lets face it people, we dont have a great reputation to start with. this mangement must go!!! they are nothing but trash in my book....classless morons!!!!

Dearie...just go back to working these BRU flights 😉
