CWA/Teamster labor thread -

We have no control over what the CWA does.
The elective officers and its members are the voice
And the officers should listen to its members. Your local should have a union meeting every quarter to listen to its members

Ask your reps, why did the CWA cave against US after the merger not to force a union vote.
I guess CWA/Teamster didn’t want a nasty union campaign and election like what IAM is going thru now with the possibility of the IAM losing yet another election

Thats because the US CSA group was the first airline workers they ever represented, and I dont count the afa merger as they are still autonomous.

CWA is one of America’s fastest growing unions and a number of unions have affiliated with CWA because of its reputation for democracy and membership involvement. CWA, the largest telecommunications union in the world, represents over 700,000 men and women in both private and public sectors, including over half a million workers who are building the Information Highway.
CWA members work in telecommunications, broadcasting, cable TV, journalism, publishing, manufacturing, airlines, customer service, government service, health care, education and other fields.
The Association of Flight Attendants merged with CWA in 2003, adding its professionalism and expertise on airline industry issues (CWA has represented airline passenger service employees since 1999).
The International Union of Electronic Workers merged with CWA in 2000, becoming the IUE-CWA Industrial Division.
The Newspaper Guild merged with CWA in 1997, as did the Independent Association of Publishers’ Employees.
The National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET) merged with CWA in 1994.
The International Typographical Union, America’s oldest labor union, merged with CWA in 1987.
CWA is affiliated with the AFL-CIO, the Canadian Labour Congress, the worldwide UNI Global Union, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the International Transport Workers Federation (ITWF), and the International Metalworkers’ Federation IMF).

Inquiring minds believe John John is really Velveteen... 😀

This unfortunately does not happen. The Local is just as happy to ignore you as District/National are, and I feel in many cases they are all working together to ignore us. We havent had a Local meeting in almost 2 years (that was posted and noticed so we could attend). Cant get financial info from the Local either after 2 months of requests. Still cant get anyone at CWA District/National to admit they allowed a vote challenge illegally according to the Constitution of the CWA. Ignored all around. Not enough members care to get things changed, they'd rather just #### about "how bad" things are, but dont want to actually get involved to try to change things or at least hold CWA officers accountable for the (in)actions. Cant wait to see what a joke of a contract they bring for us. And for anyone that says we dont have a voice, in the end you do. If you dont like what is presented vote NO and convince your fellow agents why its not acceptable. For now they are the only representation we have so we have to hold CWA accountable. Keep emailing them until you get a response. If you have to email every day and take it up to the top, keep doing it. Dont let them think they can ignore you and you'll go away. That's what they're hoping.

john john,
I sent roughly 10-15 suggestions..

I asked about airlines in the CWA, you gave us all different industries, but no airlines, because they dont represent anyone except US/East and Piedmont, by the way, how is that first CBA going for Piedmont?

You dont read do you?

Several posts ago I all ready mentioned the AFA merging with the CWA, thats not organizing.

And Pat Friend was shopping AFA around as they were running out of money. She had meetings with the IBT, IAM and he TWU, also they were close to merging into the IAM but Pat Friend wanted the AFA to be autonomous, she only wanted the influx of money from joining a bigger Union, so that is why she had AFA merge with the CWA.

So please show me other than US CSA/East and now Piedmont who they have organized in the airline industry.

The IAM is still the largest union in the airline industry for ground workers.

Once again you didnt answer the question.

who they have organized in the airline industry.

Piedmont last month
AFA/CWA is actively organizing 4 airlines now
And the fighting machinist
A quote for your friends at IBT
http://cal-ualteamsters.com/sites/cal-ualteamsters.com/files/cal-ual_10reasonsflier_final.pdf

The Machinists are a small, mostly manufacturing union and include their retired members in their overall totals to help inflate their membership numbers.
Overall, the Machinists represent less than 357,177 dues-paying members; the overwhelming majority of their members do not work in the airline industry.

"The Machinists are a dying union and have lost more than 30,000 (many aviation) members the past five years. We estimate that the Machinists currently represent less than 50,000 dues paying aviation workers.
Very recently, the IAM lost four Delta/Northwest elections (9,775 members) and agreed to multiple plant shutdowns at United Technologies that put another 2,600+ workers to the street—jobless.
When you see claims that IAM is the largest airline union, it’s just not true.
The resources of the IAM are dwindling and they cannot afford major contract fights with a company the size of the newly merged CAL-UAL. At the District Lodge 141 meeting that took place last summer, the Secretary-Treasurer reported that the Union did not have the resources to organize or to bargain contracts."
