I do recall reading somewhere that AAG would like to get the single carrier status done earlier than the normal 18-24 months.
FAA approval of the single operating certificate comes 17 months after Southwest and AirTran announced the purchase on Sept. 27, 2010, and 10 months after Southwest closed the transaction on May 2, 2011.
Though the approval of the certificate will mark a significant milestone for combining the two airlines, the change from AirTran to Southwest will likely take “several years,” Van de Ven said.
“I think we’ll spend most of 2012, 2013 and 2014 doing that,” he said.
This an article from Dallas News, it shows that it is going to take time to have the FAA approve the maintenance procedures and all the other things required to run the operation.
It will take several yrs here at AA/US as well, this alliance must get voted DOWN when the TWU/IAM start the bs of how it will benefit us. Both of these unions have one thing in MIND, DUES. They want you and I to just keep the money flowing into the pockets of the union. The AFL-CIO got involved to help this so they can too receive $$$$.
CAL/UAL are flying under one aircraft color scheme but even with the same union have not worked it out. (IBT)
Do you want to wait the same amount of time fighting over scraps in which this alliance will bring us?
What has the TWU done for YOU since you have started here at AA? What have they said was a good deal which we all found out later was a big mistake? How much more of your career are You will to waste with the TWU?
The IAM mechanics at US having little trust caused a vote to replace the IAM, but finding out about the IBT and what would happen to their pensions made a smart move imo, We attempted to bring a vote but got hoodwinked and lied too by the TWU and the IBT. So our grass roots efforts failed again.
Isn't it time to bring to the NEW AA a NEW union, a NEW way of doing things?
We will have NEW Paint, A new MGMT Team, A new reservation system, new rules that effect each employee group, new flight schedule, new uniforms, new aircraft and soooo on. Do you want to keep the same Old Union which has failed us here at AA?
Keeping the TWU and then bringing on board here the IAM will only fester the same old ways and keep the same attitude about your job and mine. Lets get all the mechanics from both AA and US and sign AMFA cards so that the Industrial unions will no longer effect the families and futures of the airline mechanics.
