Thanks. Its tough, because we all deserve raises, but for those at out-stations, a raise comes at the cost of their job at one point or another. .

Thanks for the information, Bagchucker...

I will say this... I would rather have full-time hours to trade (and possibly even work), where I could trade for part-time hours, as in this economy, and frankly, the pay increase from the ratified CBA makes it worth while to pick-up the extra hours. In PHX, full-time ramp shifts fly off Workbrain during the week, and a steady P/T trading partner isn't difficult to find.

Let me also say that I have been laid-off, fired and furloughed in prior employers, and it is never easy, but I also think it is human nature to find someone or something to blame, as we are seeing in this latest round of furloughs. Now the scapegoat is the CBA, and those who voted for it. No one has yet explained to me how the reduction in mainline flying into LAS or DFW would have saved anyone working under AW's TWU contract or using the language of the TWU contract in the IAM CBA. If there is not enough work, I don't think anyone would expect an employer to keep far too many workers in a location. I will admit to being appalled by the mistreatment of SNA and the discrimination with a higher number of 56 weekly flights vs. 28 weekly flights in other stations. Frankly, when AW's topped out rate was around $15/hour after 14 years (and $10/hour at 6 years), the company could afford to keep ramp operations in-house as the costs of labor was insanely low. I don't believe for one second that the East people who called for rejection of the CBA would have felt the same way if they were living under AW's TWU pay scale, with an honest expectation they would have been allowed to have their cake and eat it too by keeping the TWU scope and the IAM pay scale... that wasn't going to happen.

Again, I hope for you the best, and may become an opportunity for you either personally or professionally, and to keep an open and positive mind about other possibilities.

So Wishes Jester.

Should have Never Passed ?

We in the class II Cities should have NEVER been paid almost $5 less an hour than the Class I Cities. YES, it should have passed ! Equal Pay for Equal (We did much more work than Class I's) Work ! PERIOD

Robbed, YOU didnt have that opinion when you were in ABE !

I feel for LAS because I went thru this in the early 90's, but look at PIT, much more employees effected.

$15 an hour and working, is much better than $0 an hour and being furloughed. If you are full or parttime and working, you can always pick up as many hours as you can handle. If you are full or parttime and not working, you can always pick up recyclables!

Rogue.....

I am directly affected by this recent announcement to discontinue Fleet at 7 of our system stations + the downsizing of LAS even more. Now that I have to live through this, I am realizing first hand how BAD our contract language really is. For those that are enjoying your raise in the hubs, you should feel lucky and fortunate that you will never have to suffer from the closing of a station.

Hopefully those of you that are on the chopping block, will listen to those of us that have been through this downsizing before. We weren't talking to you just to be talking. We have experienced this same situation on more than one occasion.

Fulltime employees can choose to try to displace to one of the following cities: BOS, EWR, ORD, PHL, DCA, CLT, ATL.
Parttime employees can choose to try to displace to the following: same as above, plus RDU, MCI, and PHX.

What sucks is that I would like to fill a parttime vacancy, but cannot bid for it because I am fulltime. Going to one of the Fulltime displacement choices is not an option either.

Fulltime employees can bid parttime vacancies. You just have to have enough seniority to be ahead of the lowest parttimer in seniority.

I had a standing offer with any of the East guys before the CBA was ratified... I would be willing to trade my TWU payscale for the IAM payscale, and I would vote against ratification... funny... I don't recall any PM's from you. Oh, I see... you wanted me to accept $7/hour LESS so that YOU could stand on your principles for what might be many years? That was very generous of you!

So Rebukes Jester.

In the case of reduction furloughs the IAM contract didn't make it easier. The station outsourcing however...

TWU CBA Section 1B1 said:
All Fleet Service Work covered by this Agreement shall be performed by Fleet Service Employees whose names appear on the America West Airlines, Inc., Fleet Service Seniority List...

Now, there are exceptions, such as stations that were contract out could remain contracted out, but basically there could be no outsourcing on the TWU contract.

true but this contract is the 08 when i was in abe we had the ch11 and then gone out the door but we did do a heck of a lot more work. but even to this day to get that one (05? contract) thru PVD and BDL were added to the list.??? this 08 contract was passed primarily by the west bc they got the raise $$$$ right away yet at the expense of losing cities. Im shocked that BUF is losing mainline I thought that that was similar to say ATL

I think the thing we should be asking ourself isn't what was passed in '08 but what the hell the leadership has been doing since then to extend the protections that were do to expire at the end of this year.

regards,

Tim Nelson

Yes the West Helped push this thru, but the East Class II cites that got screwed, had had enough already.

I agree... forget 08... this is 11... and soon 12! We elected the current leadership to get the job done... that is what we expect! I've still got my money where my vote was.

Tim,

What would you have had them do? I am really curious as to how you think the protections could have been extended, knowing full well how this company operates, and without pulling a deal like canoli would have done. (A deal that would have had a negative affect on the rest of the membership, because the company would not give something for nothing right?) You and I both know that the company was not going to renegotiate those protections early. But you are right on one thing, we can'y dwell on the past. This P.O.S. agreement was passed by the membership as a whole, so we all have to live with it. What the focus should be on now, is, what can we get in the future, am I right? Who pissed in your wheaties?
