What's new

New uniform policy in Tulsa.

The rumor I heard today is they want different shifts to wear different color uniforms. And BTW the buzzer is now active for start of shift, breaks, lunches and end of shift in hangar 3.

For a while the latest management phase was "ownership", management was espousing how workers should take ownership of their assignments and the operation. Guess they have decided that didn't work so they are going the exact opposite way. What will a buzzer do? Instill in the workers that they have ZERO ownership in the operation and they will pace their work, what they have control over, around the buzzer. Will it make the workers more productive? No. At AAR they had a buzzer, if you knew you were coming up on your timed break you would hold off on taking any steps that required more time than you had between then and the upcoming break, so in reality you end up taking a longer break than if there was no buzzer. Maybe we can get a buzzer on the line?

Here is a question for all the Tulsa Mechanics?

Do you think that the TWU had something to do with this since there was a large number of AMFA and ibt shirts being worn?

Just another way the TWU is looking to keep us from getting rid of them.

More collusion with the company, if it wasn't wouldn't you think that since no uniforms are issued there, that the TWU would baulk at the forcing of what you guys wear?

The TWU just wants to keep your dues coming in and this with the support of AA is a way to do that.

Just a thought ?

If I remember correctly after the last AMFA drive there was some policy change where you could only wear AA or TWU logos on shirts. Just a letter put out by M&E. My opinion is they are just trying to stop any momentum that AMFA might have in winning representation in the near future.

...Or just another example of how easily distracted middle class workers in America are...
If it truly is all about shirts and slogans instead of just signing cards and holding the election, then we and the profession are doomed anyway.

Most AMFA/IBT shirts worn today are black. So don't know why they'd want as a standard black shirts only..if that was the case.

To me this is like the closing of the base Christmas week issue, a non-issue. I would love it if they shut down the line Christmas week, even though they are "forcing" us to take that week off, and if they want to provide me clothing to work in I'll take it, leaves more money in my pocket. Rather tear up their stuff than my own. The buzzer, well thats just dumb, like I said with the type of work mechanics do guys will refrain from starting something they cant finish before the buzzer, resulting in more non-productive time not less. Telling guys to work through it is BS, they cant have it both ways.

I wonder why so many companies underestimate the importance workers tend to put on task autonomy?

You'd think at some point they'd realize just how much productivity comes from getting out of the way...

Yep... 🙁

I'm glad I'm not the only one that see that...

You aren't the only one.

I remember a guy crying once that our uniforms made us look like janitors. I thought at the time that if that is all you have to complain about things are going pretty well at the moment.
