The fact that Hummel is not letting the pilot group know that a recall vote by the pilot group is currently taking place, is reason enough to vote him out!

Like the one from Mark King? Should I throw a fit like the little whiners did about false ID theft when the Leonidas mailers were sent?

I demand Lifelock!

We have a Choice: Future Success or Past Failure

Fellow Pilots,

By now you've probably heard about the recall and the dangerous backroom deal made by some members of the BPR that led to it. Steve Bradford and I are glad to talk about the issues and what's at stake.

The recall proponents claim it's all about my medical status. Let's just set the record straight. I am not now, nor have I ever been on MED status. I am, always have been and will continue to be in compliance with our Contract and our USAPA Constitution and Bylaws. While I'll write more about this at another time, I'm healthy and continue to do the job you elected me to do.

Most importantly, the recall really comes down to a fundamental difference of opinion - about the best way to achieve fair wages and benefits for the pilots at US Airways. We want to stay on the path of success instead of returning to their past track record of failure.

Under the direction of the previous administration and NAC members Paul DiOrio and Bob Frear - who are now BPR members and have orchestrated this recall - USAPA negotiated itself into a box. We were under the same old contract and had not seen a pay raise for 10 years. We were under a permanent injunction by the courts and parked by the NMB. Negotiations with the company were largely limited to angry emails which management ignored. Our NAC at that time could not move the ball forward. Their lack of strategy left us powerless.

You elected new USAPA Officers because you wanted a change. On the first day the officers and I took office, we were faced with a great challenge. We learned that US Airways management had negotiated an agreement with the APA - and without us.

We could have tried the old way - of sending angry emails to the company and having temper tantrums. But instead of using our lungs, we used our brains.

We figured out a way to put pressure on management - through planting stories in the press, lobbying Capitol Hill and maneuvering in the bankruptcy court. Along the way, I re-staffed the NAC with people who knew how to get the job done. This action angered the old guard; now they are trying to seek revenge by orchestrating this recall.

Our new NAC and our new strategy worked for you. We entered four-party negotiations with APA and management of US Airways and American Airlines. We negotiated an MOU that won the unanimous endorsement of the BPR and the overwhelming support from you - the pilots of US Airways.

We arrived at the POR last week - on December 9, 2013 - as equals with the pilots of American Airlines. On Monday, December 16, you got your first paycheck with the new pay rates. On December 30, you will receive a much-deserved retro check and lump sum distribution. Then on January 1, you will get another raise, 16% DC contribution and a profit sharing check will be coming soon.

Over the next several months, our agreement with the New American Airlines will see us negotiating a JCBA and seniority integration. In short, we have succeeded in moving our careers forward and need to complete the mission we have singularly been focused on for the past two years.

The proponents of the recall want to go back to the old ways - but those days are long gone. We are on the road to a great future and we ask that you stay the course.

You have a choice - continue forward with success or return to their failures of the past.

I ask for your support. Your vote is important so vote no recall now.

Please feel free to contact me with your questions and concerns.

Regards,

Gary Hummel, President

It was done in secret. We all stood outside and waited for the puff of smoke when the ballots were burned. Then we waited anxiously as the members walked on the balcony and took their bows.

Section 26-I (India) of our contract clearly stipulates that the company will pay the salary of the union president. This means that Hummel - as well as Cleary, Bradford, Stephan and Pollock before him - were also paid by the company. I expect to find the same arrangement within previous contracts.
If Hummel is selling out the pilots then prove it. Provide documentation, not speculation. Allegations of secret emails, meetings with the west, deals with managment, a future VP position at the New American, do not constitute evidence of wrongdoing. They are simply FUD thrown out by the malcontents. Besides, Cleary met with the west. Pollock was on the board of directors. A future VP who was a former pilot and union president is not necessarily a bad thing.
The previous NAC chairman brought us nothing. The previous president was totally excluded from what was happening behind the scenes. If the malcontents were running the show this past year our December pay would be exactly the same as last December's pay. Just think about that. Kudos to the BPR members who insisted on retro pay, but the MOU came first. Colello did the heavy lifting in crafting the present MOU. In contrast, the malcontents would have us knee deep waiting for a resolution to yet another grievance, this time over the 'lucrative and unquestionably ripe' COC lottery ticket. What grade would you give USAPA on grievances?
I'll say it again. USAPA is on final approach to a full stop and termination. It is night, IMC and we are inside the marker. But some malcontents want an S turn in order to replace the PF with someone possibly based in PHX.

84,

I consider your words weak as losers tend to name call, not winners.

IMO you are referencing a period of time where LCC had zero incentive to negotiate and the timing of GH entering office coinciding with merger talks and resultant USAPA involvement some sort of GH savior event for us " malcontents " as you label away.

Webster -malcontent
: a person who is always or often unhappy or angry about something

a :  one who bears a grudge from a sense of grievance or thwarted ambition
b :  one who is in active opposition to an established order or government :  rebel

USAPA  constitution section 8

"A. President
The President is the chief executive officer of the Association, charged with establishing, in concert with the Membership and the Board of Pilot Representatives, the goals and objectives of the Association and with taking the actions necessary to attain those goals and objectives, and carry out any other duties USAPA may request.
1. S/he shall be the authorized representative of the association; supervise all committees, activities and chairs; serve the Board of Pilot Representatives to enforce the USAPA Constitution and By-Laws; and supervise the activities of the association.
2. The President shall notify the officers of all regular and special meetings of the Board of Pilot Representatives and serve as the presiding officer at such meetings.
3. He shall, subject to approval of the Board of Pilot Representatives, appoint and remove committee members; employ, discharge, ... "

I believe a valid case will be presented ( not an insider ) that he continually violates much of above. I witnessed much discussion at Phl base meeting on his unwillingness to :
1- communicate to BPR
2- serve BPR
3-obey constitution intent and not use our atty to rationalize his actions

Above far from inclusive of his accused wrongdoing .

Btw.....Bob F Presented very well his case that GH was " politicizing " the whole med/pay situation and using the wrong Contract language to validate his pov of remaining qualified to serve as our president. I will leave it to a more astute contract poster to challenge your 26 ( India ) reference .

From your friends at Leonidas LLC:

The company has invited the West Pilot Class to be participants in this meeting. Your nine West Class Representatives have chosen five West pilots to be your West Merger Committee representatives: former PHX Domicile Chairman First Officer David Braid; current Leonidas member and Business Intelligence Committee member, First Officer Johan DeVicq; former ALPA negotiating committee member Captain Doug Dotter; founder of Leonidas First Officer Eric Ferguson; and former ALPA merger committee member Captain Russ Payne. Along with this committee will be the legal team consisting of Polsinelli Attorneys Jennifer Axel and Dr. Andy Jacob along with Marty Harper of Marty Harper, PLLC. It is our understanding from the West Merger Committee that New American and APA will be in attendance at the December 20, 2013 meeting. USAPA has not committed to attend to the best of our knowledge.

I want my own status.
You've got USAPA...nothing to worry about. HHHHHHAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to break it to you, but so do you. My main concern with this and the ongoing recall effort is that it will sway the APA and change their strategy. Your dictated AOL reps will affect my career, as our USAPA reps will.

You made this bed. However it turns out you're going to lay in it. The West has autonomy. We ARE NOT USCABA. Those insane, half-witted fukctards have cost you dearly devaluing a fully third of your career. The meteoric final failures have now just begun.

The team is perfect. Sans Vasin.

All,
Is SB actually putting his name to GH validations?
If so, will definitely factor that into my recall SB vote.
