Us Airways Afa President Wants Airline To Ease Up

What a shame that someone could get fired for just a few sick calls. At any rate, this stuff should have been taken care of at the negotiating table....not the media.

And, if you're injured on the job, and go see the company quack during your shift as a result of said injury, that is an occurrence.

And, if on light duty and need follow up visits as a result of OJI? Occurrence! Even though the company has the right to schedule you as they see fit while on light duty, and could schedule around the appointments.

Again the media gets it wrong! You dont get fired with four sick calls. After your fourth sick call, you are required to provide a doctors notice.

I expect each work group's rules are a little different.

For agents, 4 occurrences in a 12 month period equates to an 'initial discussion'. Another occurrence within a year is step I, another within 18 months is step II, another is step III , another is termination.

The problems is, once you're on a step, the slope gets very slippery.

And, as agents sustain OJI's at a rate of three times the national average, that aspect of accumulating occurrences is out of line, in my view.

Additionally, the company can and does request agents to provide a doctor's note on the first occurrence.

Talk to the hand is exactly what has put U into this present situation.

Thank God that Ms.Xidas is doing what she's being paid to do...which is representing those that put her in that office.

I have said time again...if I'm going have to pay to be represented and retain a job...Teddy is exactly the person I would want to do the representing. If the IAM and ALPA had half the you know whats that Teddy obviously does....maybe things would be a damn sight different than they are at present.

I'm not about to defend people that call in sick when not..and I'm not about to defend habitual tardiness for a moment...but if mitigating circumstances beyond the employee's control present themselves?...then maybe the policies need to be looked at on an individual basis as opposed to an across the board excuse to chop off heads for the sake of doing so.

The thing is the company does not provide the customer the same performance they are demanding from the employees.

Cut and pasted from Flyer Talk. Please read

The FA never came back the rest of the flight to see if anyoned needed anything.

Sky high states: Really?. Just how many times did this flight Attendant pass through the cabin to deliver drinks and meals and pick up trash?
It's amazing that the minute someone sits down in first class they expect their jacket to be hung. They wave it, yet this person if they wanted something else couldnt ASK FOR IT while the flight attendant was BUSY taking care of 26 PEOPLE?

To me reading a novel or studying is perfectly appropriate on a "Red-Eye" as most are asleep anyhow. But on a flight like the one mentioned, reading a novel to me is inexcusable.

SKY HIGH states: inexcusable? Flight attendants endure 10 to 14 HOUR DAYS ON THE JOB on average! I guess flight attendants are NOT ALLOWED TO EAT, SIT, RELAX OR HAVE DOWNTIME EITHER?.....pub--leaseee.

The ironic thing is no one actually knows it this happened or not. I find it hard to believe the F/C F/A read a book the whole flight and did nothing.

Something smells rotten in Denmark to me.

Kinda like the USA Today found in the flight deck? I bet you never use that little red button on the joy stick do you? Savy

Waiting for the results of the Amnesty meeting.

I have high hopes the company WILL deliver on this "side letter" in our contract.

Take that to the bank!

I've been working flights at the gate where crews try to fly into base early in the day and get bumped time after time only to have a seat on a flight that gets them there after report time (once by about 5-10 mins) so they decided to call out unable to commute instead of going in and just showing late. They figure they are going to take the hit anyway, might as well just stay home. This causes problems then in trying to cover flights that WOULD have been covered (although the first one reporting a little late), but the rest of the trip wouldnt have to have been covered.
I know they should have left the day before, etc, but to cause problems like this over a couple of minutes is ridiculous.
Kind of like having car trouble and either showing up 5 mins late to work and getting an occurance, or just calling out sick. Since there is NO leeway in this area, most would just call out sick and get paid for the entire day off instead of taking the hit for the occurance AND getting docked pay. Now the company has to pay extra to cover the shift with overtime instead of saying we'll give you one this time. I still think it should be noted and documented, and if the couple minute car problems is a continuing problem, it should be addressed, but if its a one time incident, it shouldnt be included in with other occurances.

Can someone explain what the amnesty side letter consists of? Relaxing work rules. Is this not what U's burden was all these years? Weren't they to relaxed? I agree, if you can't be to work when your scheduled to be there, you need to get yourself another job, if you think the next employer will put up with you! I wonder if SW or JetBlue has the need for amnesty letters. It looks like your headed down the same road you just came from. ACCOUNTABILITY, RESPONSIBILITY. Look them up in the Webster.

Like the others, I've seen it happen, too. That SKYHIGH has been protesting so much suggests that it may even be some on this board that are doing the happening.

Hey, here's an idea. Why not raffle off big screen TV's to the F/A's that make it into work on time 3 weeks in a row...... Good grief.
