There are occasionally gray areas where the MEL can be changed or improved, but these are very rare and are not tied to the color lanyard or your emotions towards an arbitration.

1. Does it conform to it's Type Design (as modified by MEL)?

2. Is it in a safe condition for flight?

Those are the two legal requirements for aircraft airworthiness.

Unless you can bear the burden of proof that the MEL is wrong (and from the east guys I've spoken to, their knowledge of the airplane is "sparse" to be polite) I stand by the previous statement - if it's in the MEL, you take it.

There was a time the company wanted to apply for permission to fly an A320 with NO FLT Directors, NO auto pilots and NO autothrust. You OK with that too? You should really give up this position of yours. It is indefensible.

So, you would take a 330 or 767 arcross the north atlantic with no APU and several previous right ups on a generator. I personally would not, but that's me. There are all sort of scenarios that could get you in trouble, you should know better. I am not disagreeing with all the way either. Every situation is different.

Just because someis in the MEL book does not make it safe. You westies should be smart enough to know that.

You have to remember who the AWA pilots are. AWA was the ONLY airline in the country that would hire them. Plus, they are really showing their inexperience now.

Not really very surprising at all, considering who they are...

Prove it? what the hell are you a lawyer? masquerading as a pilot?

I can think of many examples where I would not take a plane that is on MEL...

let's start with this one..

100 degrees in PHL... Mondena shut down... a 737 300 and no APU....

how is that for starters...

Why not?

Put on extra gas, run the engines for cooling. Or go back to the gate get the people into the cool terminal and wait for it to open. What's the problem?

I guess you forget we see 100 days all the time.

Worst post EVER by a supposed aviator on this forum. It is one thing to be emotional (we all do that at times,) it is quite another to be, well.....

What the Captain(s) did on that flight in question was equal to what Sully and Jeff did. There are no missions at US Airways. No flight ever, ever has to be launched with safety in question, no matter what the politics involved. What you suggest Luvn is dispatch by edict. I am not alone, and that will never happen on my watch.

"You take it" Luvn, I just hope my family is not on board when you do. FAIL.

Driver;
Pound sand. It is my hope that el presidente pushes just a couple more of Parker's buttons. Keep up the support of you little association & be sure to keep wearing that yellow lanyard.

US Air pilots are the pariahs of the industry. You have made a name and notorious reputation that no one could match.

You have to remember who we are.

Five fatal accidents in 5 years.

Two caused by pilot error.

Yet some of us are so stupid that we accuse a group of pilots that never had a fatal accident of being less qualified.

Well maybe AWA......truth hurts

no APU = No ETOPS flight.
That's basically how I read the A330 APU inop MEL. Over 120 min. ER ops is a no go.

Of course, the bigger question is, should any MEL item trigger a nervous breakdown?

The east folks here sure get wound up about alot of stuff. Maybe if they knew their equipment better and weren't grasping at straws to legitimize their failed work action, maybe they'd relax and just fly the airplane like they're paid to do.

So true!
