And you are a tool, taken out of the bag. No power as a unionist. Replaced easily, readily. You were the warm up for Glass. Were you the guy in the back of class picking his nose, and complaining? Never studying obviously. Then you picked up trash, and complained because you never got a real skill. And you are gone. Meanwhile, the East pilots are still here, taking them on. You cried, and ran. What do you do now, drive a van and complain about your lot in life?
The east pilots will always be here...................
Well folks its election time in CLT and the tired old diatribe of those in the vocal minority is upon us again. Leading the initial volley is Doug Mowery accompanied by Mark King. To begin with it should be noted that the central premise of their effort is the flawed notion that, first, no progress has been made since USAPA’s inception and, second, that their “tried and true” methodology is the answer. Both ideas are an embarrassing example of the unfortunate naivety of these gentlemen and their inner circle, good intentions notwithstanding.
The notion that there has been no progress is emblematic of a pathological urge that this group of men has to see movement of any kind in general and at the negotiating table even if the movement is self defeating. This behavior is at the very root of many of our current problems - problems that evolved over time through a number of ill-fated negotiations.
It is lost on these individuals that in order to reverse this historical trend we must remain resolute, understanding that any momentum whatsoever first begins with the smallest yielding of the burden and continues with an unrelenting, disciplined effort - especially in the face of stubborn, entrenched, opposition.
The very opposite of this school of thought is what Mowery is going to openly offer you in his campaign - the idea that because, in his view, the progress made is unsatisfactory we must, therefore, change our tack and find more accommodating winds. This is what Doug has done consistently through his union career and we are living and breathing the results every day. If there is one thing that should be apparent to us all it is that the only thing the Company is interested in accommodating, absent sufficient incentive, is perpetual concessions. Should we change course that is exactly what we will get. Our own history could not be more clear on this point.
The characterization that Doug levels at President Cleary about being a fighter is highly suggestive of where his most problematic flaw lies. Mowery remains convinced that, despite all evidence to the contrary, this management is interested in constructive communication - that is to say dialog that is designed to mutually solve problems. Just take a look at your career at US Airways over the last two decades and see if this thinking has any basis in reality. Any healthy business relationship is the product of balance. If one side or the other opens a path lacking in resistance then the other will surely follow that path. It is a simple principle of physics that Mowery simply does not understand. Doug wants to open the lines of communication with Parker without a requirement for the Company to act in good faith and he is willing to do anything to make it happen. It is beyond question that he does not, despite his previous experience, know where this will lead. Well, we do and you should as well.
As for Doug’s regurgitated attack on Steve Crimi, that argument was made ad-nauseam to no avail through his failed recall attempt yet somehow he believes that you simply did not get it the first time around. Doug Mowery and Mark King do not care one bit about where Steve did or did not work. All they care about is the focus of this campaign - to disrupt the voting balance on the BPR by picking off their opponents.
Bill McKee, Dewitt Ingram and Steve Crimi have not only proven themselves to be staunch advocates of their constituents but they have also, through dogged determination and dedication to the best interests of all US Airways pilots, provided a steadying influence on the BPR. Where some other representatives, past and present, fell victim to the beguiling influences of those who wish to see us fail, these gentlemen remained steadfast, disciplined and cool-headed. We have much to thank them for in this regard and this contribution cannot be overstated - particularly when those seeking to replace them are most certainly, by their own admission, intent on doing things differently.
In this election the CLT pilots hold in their hands the ability to do one of two things. Either be lured into the one thing that we can least afford - changing course under the direction of individuals who despite their best intentions are prone to a philosophy which has repeatedly failed us in the past, or resisting the urge to succumb to the pressure that is being placed on us by our adversaries for that express purpose.
CLT pilots, we implore you to remain strong, to stay the course and to vote for Bill McKee, Dewitt Ingram and Steve Crimi.
