What do you expect Hawk, hp's living in a tin shack in the desert at 110 degrees. He cant afford the a/c because he retired on $ 2500 a month from the rectal cancer of the airline industry. Have a nice day.
So I take it your retirement is the one we should strive for?

Dang, you are right! Don't come here, its heat rash season! Two tourists from North Dakota spontaneously combusted on a street corner the other day! Please, don't come to Phoenix, don't take up all the tee times and don't drive down our streets at 30MPH. Its too hot and the gila monsters will eat your children!!! 😀

That's Funny! Gila monsters eating your children!!! If you lived in North Dakota all your life and visited PHX you might just spontaneously combust. People up here are b*tching because we hit 90 the other day. What would they do when it's 118 in PHX.

I won a President Club Trip to the Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale and it was HOT, but the thing that made it bearable is that it cooled off quite nicely at night.

The only thing I didn't care for is some of the folks weren't very hospitable compared to other places I've visited. Note I said some as in not all.

One you can't do in PHX is Ice Fish which is probably a good thing as most of the Ice Fishermen I know usually only catch a buzz out at the fish house. C'mon up and we'll not go ice fishing together LOL

Adapting to heat is no different than adapting to cold. If my house is below 85, I feel cold, makes for cheaper electrical bills. Granted, humidity is never much above 35% ever, that is why we can run evap coolers in lieu of the costly A/C for most of the summer. Best part is that I can grow mango, banana, papaya, passion fruit, guava, taro and all kinds of fun stuff here, just gotta be vigilant on those few hard freezes we have every few years. Its about 95 outside now, which is not too bad. 2.5 months of bad weather and the rest of the year is great, I can wear shorts for about 10 months out of the year.

Ah C'mon you don't want to go Ice Fishing? You just put the Captain Morgan's right outside the fish house so it's cold and syrupy, the beers stay in the cooler because at -30 it will freeze outside the Fish House. You should see some of the Fish Houses, they tow them onto the lake with a 4x4 with a trailer and leave them there, Some have generators with heaters and TV's to watch the Vikings.

I mean really how many rounds of golf can one play? I love it up here in the Great White Nort. C'mon up we'll catch some Walleye and grill it right outside the Fish House while the Vikings are on. For supper we'll have Hot Dish. It'll be fun.

Don't you LOVE hijacking the pilot thread????? 😀 😀 😀 😀

I don't do well in cold. I had to go to DC for an interview in Jan, so cold the tracks from BWI were frozen. I couldn't non rev as everything was booked. Some serious cold, I'd walk, and put the hood up and I'd sweat so much I'd put it down, then it would start to freeze, so I would put the hood up...etc.....

I'm a beer man, I'd have to drink so much that I'd be creating my own holes in the ice every time I needed to get rid of the beer... Put me any place in the world that is hot and tropical, I'm a lizard, I can handle it.

You'd make divots in the ice. it's 2-3 foot thick by Christmas and it would freeze by the time you had to make another "Deposit". I love beers as well. Mostly Belgian Ales and such. We have a great store here, Harbor Liquors and they carry enough Belgians to keep me happy.

I hear ya of that East Coast cold damp winter. It will chill you to the bone. Here it's just plain cold like PHX is just plain hot. Best part of this is we're not at each other AND we've hijacked the Pilot thread. So what beers do you like?

OH, BTW.....if we had signed a contract with what the company testified in federal court would be expected (Kirby + an additional 7-8% for a total of 10-11% on top of AWA wages), YES we ALL have lost MILLIONS of dollars collectively. Further every one of you would have gained one week paid vacation, 100% DH, 100% MECH, 100% cancellation, etc.

The point that I am trying to make (especially for lurkers) is that unless you change USAPA's constitution.....YOU WILL NEVER GAIN ANYTHING (other than the left seat....eventually at the nations crappiest airline contract). If you are already a captain, you have lost big time.

You know how I hate to rain on your parade, but I'm going to give you a little shower.

The 100% DH is not that big of a deal, and for reserves it's actually a good deal. You see, we do only get 1/2 the DH as pay-no-credit, but the trip rig is "back filled" and it is also pnc. When we first signed on to the idea, this wonderful company decided that half pay for DH meant no rigs for the trip! We won a grievance on that, so the rigs are there and trip rig is paid as pay-no-credit. So for most of the trips as a block holder it doesn't make any difference except that PNC can let you get paid above the pay cap. For a reserve, all PNC goes above your guarantee. For the last two months that has been around 12 hrs extra for me. Every once in a while you will get burned when their is no back fill, but it comes out way ahead for reserves.

The 100% mech. cancellation would be nice, but again it doesn't come into play as much as you would think. Most of our trips are multi-day parings and if a leg cancels you are rescheduled and the trip WILL pay it's published value. If a flight goes down for MX and it is flown by another equipment type, you get paid. So, in the vast majority of cases, you get paid, with the 1 day island guys, all niters, and trans-atlantic occasionally getting burned. It would be nice, but it would be a matter of what we would have to give up for it.

Besides pay, vacation was the biggest hit for me in LOA 93.

I think it was you that compared us to Eagle. I'm sure there are some MDA guys on here that could speak to it, but I'm pretty sure they went under the Eagle contract and were none too pleased with it, so I'm guessing the whole package was not that good.

Are you sure that a company official testified that more than Kirby was on the table? The reason I ask is that Kirby was in a crew news session and seemed to deny that. I know Jack Stephan did, but you guys don't put any stock in him, right?

If you are getting all your numbers from KH, you need to back them up. He has tunnel vision and has been flat out wrong on a lot. The LOA 93 decision should be out soon and then you should be able to tell if you guys can get the few hundred more you need.

BTW, does anyone know if this is correct for DL? It doesn't look that good, if were to include the Nic and a return to the right seat, and Parker say we can't have that much! (of course I'd like to have the rates, but I thought they were higher and the per diem and retirement aren't much, and a 70 reserve guarantee)

Hijacked or not, this has been the most productive discussion here for a while!

As for beer, my favorite is cold.

As for PHX, you can have it. 12 months a year it is too rough a crowd, too big, too crowded and something makes me sneeze. Maybe I'm allergic to westies! Then you have those 3-4 months when it is HELL. I'm thinking a higher desert may be nice, like Flagstaff, but the most important thing to me is east, and that is all of my family. So I won't be going out there unless I have to.

USAPAWATCH.com Update (Arbitrator Kasher's Decisions?): August 5, 2011

See Story

I don't believe anything about any decisions until I actually read the document from the arbitrator.

But if Usapawatch is on the money (at least about any decision being out) then the West must have a source in the company. Wish I could get one of those! When the decision is made public by the Union we will know if 1) the decision indeed came out last week and 2) the results were properly reported by Usapawatch.

I know USAPA keeps decisions from even the BPR..that is fact. Look at TA 9 and 10...only the chosen ones saw the first decision when it was released by the arbitrator.

I was in the High desert in NM around Raton Pass and the weather there was terrific! Not to hot in the day time and cool at nights. It's cattle country and breathtaking sunsets are nearly daily occurrences.

Also the "back side" of the Rockies is really an Alpine desert and the small towns like Salida and Beuna Vista are equally stunning.

As for beer if you're in CLT wander over to:
Brawley’s Beverage
4620 Park Road
Charlotte, North Carolina United States 28209

It is a world ranked beer store in a beat up old filling station. They carry stuff I haven't seen in the US anyplace else. Mostly beer from Belgium. However it isn't $15.95 for a 30 rack swill that you chill & Guzzle in an afternoon. This is pair with food beer to be enjoyed , Be careful as much of it is in the 9% ABV range and a 6 pack will knock you out. You'd best be prepared to spend a lot more for their more exotic beers, However your taste buds will thank you.

Ooooh, I dissed PHX and got voted down!

Thanks for the tip on Brawley's. Will have to check it out on the way home sometimes.

Beer = Czechvar (original "Budweiser" from Czeske Budojovice'), Tiger from Singapore, Blue Moon (with a wedge of blood orange), Kona Lager, Windhoek Lager, A-1 from Nimbus, Chimay from Belgium.

Beer is swell. I drink beer to make other people interesting.

You know there's hope for you after all. Anyone who likes Chimay and Blue Moon can't be all bad 😀 The original Budweiser is a fine beer. I want to get to PRG and taste it on tap someday.

Blue Moon is an American version of a Belgian Wit Beer. If you like it try Hoegaarden or Wittekerke as they are from Belgium and to me 2 to 3 times better. Not a fan of Asian beers, not because of taste but because many use high quantities of sulfates and I get massive headaches almost immediately. I'm OK with a headache after I wake up but during consumption no.

have you tried any of the other 5 Abbey ales besides Chimay? All are pretty interesting. If you can find it in Tempe try to score a bottle of Gouden Carolus Grand Cru of the Emperor. It's made one day a year and it's a vintage beer and the 2006 is excellent, you can age them up to about 30 years. Age them standing upright NOT on their sides like wine, so the yeast settles properly.

See ben Franklin was right when he supposedly said "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

Czechoslovak Airlines (now Czech Air) used to give me free tix whenever Pass Bureau asked for me, even got to fly the IL62M from JFK-PRG, got upgraded a few times. Probably went there 15 or so times. Went to the Pilsener Urquell home in Pilsen, damned fine. Tiger is fantastic and thankfully now available in Thailand. Vietnam has some great beer also. Bingtang from Indonesia is great, but not exported, same same for VB, the real Australian beer. Worst beer countries to be stuck in: Egypt (horrors!), Philippines (San Mig, your only choice), Laos (Bia Lao, formaldehyde and water), Iceland (good beer but 3x what it would cost anywhere else). Tiger is good on you for the hangovers, some beer I can't ever drink. Also, there are a few organic sulfide free wines out there, Our Daily Red and Well Red.

Beer is good. It is health food and does not contain any pathogens. Even bad beer will not kill you, it might taste like s*** but it wont kill you. I'm in DUB today so I'm going to try a few Guinness and perhaps a Smithwicks, maybe a Bodington but for sure I'm going to O'neills for a Galway Hooker (the cheapest hooker you will ever have). Maybe a Blarney Blond for dessert! This is great we can all agree on something! Maybe I can find a f/a to share a galway hooker with me, that should really be fun!

Cheers lads,

Bob
