Your position is obvious.
You are trying to find your way out of this mess.
You seem like a smart guy.
You have to live with what is most important to you.
Which solution is more profitable to you?
Really? After all that, this is all you can come up with?
Okay, I did ask for it.
I don't think I have a solution to choose from, now. When this all started I was pissed at Nicolau, and ALPA for letting it happen. When the idea of starting a new union came up I tried to educate myself and decide which option was best for me and my family, ALPA or USAPA. I liked the idea of an independent union, but I came to decide that what USAPA was trying to do would not work, and that some of the people that were gravitating towards it scared me. I voted for ALPA, hoping a solution would be found. It wasn't and USAPA was elected. I decided that I wouldn't be like a lot of my friends and take my toys and go home, so I decided to join USAPA and try to help make it the best I could.
Even though I have always been a MIGS, I've had major disagreements with policies and leaders of the union, with the biggest being the C18. I know several west pilots and have tried to listen to their POV and I agree with them on somethings, but I feel very confident that if they are waiting for the east to just give in, they are mistaken. Both sides are entrenched, we've handed the company a dream come true for cost savings, and we will just have to wait out the legal battles and see who wins. In the mean time I'd like to see us stop fighting each other on everything else, but over the last few months, mainly because of this board, I doubt that will happen.
I figured some guys latched on to the safety campaign to put pressure on the company, but had no idea how many as I am a captain and I have not taken part in it and made sure my F/Os understood that before it was an issue. Despite that, I was falsely accused by agents, one passenger and the company in it's publications of slowing down and it very much aggravated me. I saw a lousy operation in CLT this summer being all blamed on the pilots when I knew at least some of the blame should have been placed somewhere else. The company got it's injunction, it is a big deal, I will honor it and suggest all our pilots do, but I think the wording the company asked for and received was incredibly stupid and will come back to haunt them if, God forbid, we have an accident anytime soon.
So, after all that, the best solution for me is one that I feel will never happen, for many reasons. That is for us to find a solution to the SLI on our own and MOVE ON.
Does that cover it?
