US Pilots Labor Discussion

Only an idiot would brag about flying 97 hours every month all year while 60 of his fellow pilots are on furlough.

60 of his fellow pilots are on furlough because of people such as yourself!! If you had any integrity at all you would have ended this foolishness long ago instead of running up legal bills on fruitless efforts.

Dear Subscriber,

Update for November 18, 2011

Captain Steve Gay describes the benefits of the West pilot's contract, more pay and more days off than the East pilots. How much longer should US Airways' pilots support USAPA and their inability to obtain a new contract for its members?

Once USAPA or a replacement union truly gets to negotiating a joint contract, versus paying FPL for ineffective work, the Scheduling and Guarantees sections of a joint contract is an area the NAC and their advisors needs serious input from its PHX-based pilots.

In Steve Gay's case described in his Unbiased Facts’ OpEd he said, "I am a junior lineholder Captain and this year I will make over $160,000, with more vacation and time off than I really know what to do with. Check Maestro (P1909) I have seventeen days off in November and will have over 96 hours of credit."

This type of pay/days off is attractive and would be even greater with the JNC agreed upon duty rigs and vacation and the company's opening wage rate opener (sometimes called the Kirby proposal). In fact, Lyle Hogg told me he was prepared to counter ALPA's response to the Kirby proposal by adding another 3%, which was approved to by US Airways' Board over 4 years ago.

In Captain Gay’s projections as a junior Captain he had a block time of 62:16 and pay time of 96:46 with 17 days off for the month. Would any East pilot like that schedule, productivity, and pay time?

Specifically, ALPA JNC with the help of ALPA's Professional Negotiators and its E&FA Department has TA'ed the following portions of Section 4, Minimum Bid Period Guarantees:

Bid Period Guarantee 76:00 Lineholder; 77:00 Reserve - Agreed

Duty Period Average (Variable Min.) 5:15 - Agreed

Long Rate Rig 24:00 period free within pairing - Agreed

Duty Rig 1:2; 1:1.5 on ODANS - Agreed

Trip Rig 1:3.25 - Agreed

Incentive Flying Rate 125% - Agreed

Involuntary Flying Rate 150% (ALPA Proposal) - 125% (Company Proposal)

Vacation Rate 3:45 (ALPA Proposal) - 3:00 (Company Proposal & QRG total of 114 hours per year)

Training Pay – Long Course Avg. Line Value for full month; 2:46 daily for partial month - Agreed

Training Pay – Qualification Training 3:00 for ground school; 4:17 for simulator (ALPA Proposal) – Holding (Company Proposal)

These productivity benefits and the 99-hour max pay cap; coupled with PBS, DPU (Drop/Pick Up), and the Trip Trade Board is a very powerful scheduling system. US Airway’ West pilots currently use Version 1 in Maestro. Delta’s pilots use Version 5, which for the East would be like SAP on steroids.

The East Pilot & F/A CATCREW, SAP, & AIL scheduling system is archaic and is just one more example of how USAPA and its inexperienced NAC is hurting every US Airways pilot, East and West alike, with their seniority integration approach and lack of understanding of 21st century mobile scheduling tools that can be handled on a smart phone.

When would now be a good time to accept what you cannot change and be represented by the only true national commercial airline pilots union?

I think that they are going to get rid of the dead wood which is you, you must have been to young when Pan Am was split.
Serious question for you.

Why would USAPA offer a seniority compromise if they are sure of an LOA 93 win?

Injunction,

If the pilots had a joint contract none of those pilots would be furloughed. In addition, even with the furlough those 60 pilots have been offered recall to CLT, DCA, or PHL, but declined the offer most likely because they would like return to PHL on the E-190.

Meanwhile, in Captain Gay’s projections as a junior Captain he had a block time of 62:16 and pay time of 96:46 with 17 days off for the month. Would any East pilot like that schedule, productivity, and pay time?

You mean the east gifted the west 24% of their flying and that still did not prevent furloughs? With the east contract how many more furloughs would the west have?

Hang on now.

If we're going to be sold off to Republic at any second and PHX is going to be downsized and we cost more because we're not on LOA93 like you've been all these years, then why would the company give us a quarter of your flying?

It's not because of all your accidents, is it?

This is a true statement. Now one need only ask why the east walked out of negotiations. We would all have done better if they had honored their obligations and now 5yrs later they come begging. I dont think there is a single west pilot that even if we could would go back after the fact and do mediation. Everyone had their day in court and this is over. The only ones being hurt now are the east guys about to retire in a few months. Separate ops for the west now seem like a blessing. LOA93 for the east has reached its breaking point and many of you are tired of being held hostage.

Tell your bpr to put it to a vote.

Sadly misinformed and I for one am sick of having to explain things to you that you could look up yourself. You kill me with these dumb statements you make. In a very short time you will realize that you will have to abide by the nic and that the new contract will serve you better. Then you will see how little the award really effected you and thats when you are going to get really pissed off as you look back and see the 5yrs worth of salary that you tossed out the window being a fool.

Exactly, with the west vacation amount in a joint contract compared to east current, there never would have been any furloughs to begin with and hiring would have started much sooner.
