To use your own analogy, then:
Should the east pilots have just allowed ALPA's even bigger hammer to slam down on them yet again without a fight? Do you really object to our managing to escape being decisively smacked down with that big hammer? I suppose you feel we should have just collectively tucked our tails (careers) between our legs and slinked away whimpering like a whipped dog.
NO ONE was listening to us. Not ALPA; not the west. There was NO OTHER CHOICE at the time, and there remains little choice now but to see the entire show play to the closing credits.
