The unions are coming, the unions are coming!

You're right about 7200 but the 158 mil is only for noncontract personnel. The pilots are getting 15% of 660 million total profit. That's why it's only 42000 employee not including contract employee which are the pilots and dispatchers.

I don't think that is correct. Most pilots are expecting the 5% of gross w2's minus note payouts.

Its pretty pathetic that you cant go to your company website and have this laid-out in black and white.

I believe the union, the ALPA one I belong to, is verifying numbers for profit sharing and yearly performance based pay increases prior to releasing any official numbers. I would expect them to release that information when the exact percentage is verified.

Now you know how things are run around here. At least the pilots have someone looking for a formula and the rest of us have Ann Larkin. Some joker who I never elected to represent Customer Service(ramp, cargo, ticketing, res, gates and tower) go figure.

Who is this "Ann Larkin"?

Are we getting our union card signed at DL? No hurry seeing this thing could drag on forever but you never know. What about your fellow DL ground handlers like Comair and Delta Ramp Service or what ever the hell you call them. Are you willing to let them continue their march to depress wages, slaughter work rules, and take work from your brothers? I think not. Richard and Doug have time to do their worst for us. They've done it before. Lets get it together on our end before they bend us over again.

bagboy,

If you work for DL, on the ramp(which your post rather suggests), you would be SO much better off getting union representation..BEFORE..this deal "goes down" !

But I'm guessing that "it" would take longer to get "that" done, than it's going to take Anderson/Steenland to "Consummate the marrige"

I wouldn't hold my breath. People like Southwind and Aislehopper are part of the Delta "cult" mindset. As you've probably already noticed, whenever you ask them a straightforward question as you have (and as I have with Aislehopper) and they can't answer it, they run and hide/lurk.
I am proud to say that I work hard for Delta, do my utmost to offer my customers a great experience but I have NEVER bought into this sort of cult mentality that Delta can do no wrong and that they are a big happy family (a la Jim Jones?). But don't worry, most of the stations/people, mostly outside of Hooterville (ATL), are good, honest, hard-workers who don't make being part of the Delta "cult" their #1 priority. There are also some great people in ATL too and lots have woken up especially in the past 3 years or so. The ones like these two I've mentioned above lurk on these boards to spin for Mgt. outside of Delta's own internal website.
Good luck to you. If there is a merger, don't judge us all by some of these people you encounter here.

And people like you are self-absorbed and part of the "its all about me" mindset !
I've asked straight forward questions and have yet to get straight- forward answers.
Again , I'll say, for all of you who see what they want to see in all caps !
I'M NOT HERE TO STIR THE POT AND I'M NOT HERE TO TAKE SIDES!

I'm here to get , IN YOUR WORDS, a straight-forward anwser to a straight-forward question !

Are you ready........I'll write it in plain english and please make sure you read it slow , so you don't misconstrue and take out of context this very simple question 1

How has having a union benefitted you any more than Delta people, without a union, during the last few years of pay-cuts, lay-offs, benefit cuts, etc. ?

There it is. Simple and to the point !

Dear SW, How is housing market in ATL. I'm tired of the cold and when DL lays me off I will have no place to go seeing without a union contract the hubs are my only hope. I wont have any right to recall to my home town, no work rules, no job security without my union. Your focus on the bottom line is short sighted. NW and DL make about the same in pay and benefits. Read the contracts and see for yourself. How much does DL pay you to poo-poo the unions here or do they pay you in kool-aid?
(thats pot stirring)

Your one trick pony act is starting to bore me. You're like a 2 year old who keeps asking "why," even after the questions been answered.

Maybe you should go back and read the answers people having been providing you for throughout the last 11 pages.

Now it's your turn to "read slow:"

1.NWA ramp stationed in 40 cities vs. 14

2.NWA 6 weeks of vac. vs. 4 at DL

3.NWA employees can exercise their seniority to maintain employment in whatever city they can hold. DAL employees can only go where there's an opening.

4.No cap on sick leave vs. 5 days PPT at DAL.

There's 4 VERY BIG advantages to start.

I'm still waiting for you to tell us what DAL employees kept.My guess is I'll get some BS answer with no specifics, just like your last responses.

Straightforward enough for you?

Oh poor dear Southwind..my, my. You are like the student in class who doesn't pay attention, holds the class back with inane questions and bores the rest of us to tears. Your question was answered in Post #62 from Kev. I also posted some cross-references for IFS in I believe, it was post #41 or 42.
You also are disenginous. If you are not trying to stir the post, why don't you FOLLOW THE THREAD instead of popping off emotionally before you absorb what's been written.
And finally, for you to call me "self-absorbed" also shows you are here to rant, not follow the thread and discuss the issues at hand.
I am "self-absorbed" because I want date of hire for all flight attendants and I would prefer to have a COLLECTIVE bargaining agreement??
Call me a liberal or a socialist or a pinko if that makes you feel better..just because I still believe that in an industry like ours, a union offering contractual protection is the best way to go. But 'self-absorbed' makes absolutely no sense.

Southwind,

This is how I personally benefited from being a union member,

Having a Collective Bargaining Agreement: the contract covers layoff/displacement concerns.
Northwest contracted out Miami, I'm now in Ft. Lauderdale. I got to use my seniority and bump into FLL (or I could have chosen forty other cities to work at, as long as my seniority held). While at Delta, when your laidoff your either told where your being assigned or your shown the door.
My pension was frozen with 18 years of service, but now the company is funding the IAM National Pension Fund (iamnpf.org).
My pension does not have a Social Security offset like Delta's. My pension benefit is still growing, Delta's pensions, to my knowledge are permenently frozen.

LTD- Long Term Disablity, Delta to my knowledge does not offer LTD.

Better medical and dental.

Southwind tell me how working for Delta and being a non-union employee has benefited you, and state some of the benefit advantages of being a non-union Delta employee. In the long run, if this merger goes forward, I think its an advantage to have union negotiated benefits and work rules, because if you trust Delta in trying to do the right thing, your in for a big dissapointment. Remember whatever Delta or Northwest tells its employees, ("your our #1 asset!"and "without you, our dedicated employees,we wouldn't have made it"), the companies first responsibility is to the shareholders, not the employees. AND THATS A FACT.

I just want to thank all of you who responded.
With me sitting on the fence as far as union , non-union, your responses have finally help me decide !

Unions are nothing but money-sucking , good for nothing outfits, with members who think they are entitle to a job and benefits just by a right of birth !
I will welcome working side by side with a scab, knowing that at least he doesn't expect any more than he earns and who will undoubtably be a better, more rational co-worker !

Good luck to all, your gonna need it ! ;)
