A few things gotta fall into place for myself or most to consider another union at united. I dont think the majority of uniteds iam workforce will tolerate the new pres who negotiated ta2, if there remains status quo after february or june. Id do all i can to help if klemm gets elected as prez.

I can't imagine Klemm has a whole lotta fans left...

Personally, I don't think he has any (except some of the sycophants who sold the contract.)
Right now, from what I'm hearing, they are more concerned with organizing the future UGS, instead of dealing with the present issues. I hope that isn't true......
I hope these idiots concern themselves with the upcoming contract, instead of trying to sell us out for the potential of more members @ UGS.

The landscape is changing, and IMHO, progress can be made with a better contract. The company is at a crossroads. After seeing the crap at the EWR hub, Oscar had a heart attack. (I was fortunate enough to talk to him during his visit) They know that Airport Operations is in a bad way, and it is up to the District to get a better deal, with the two basic demands: 1; Protect and defend the 29 (along with Express in the 3) and 2; Restore the full pay to the agents who took the cuts in the stations that were voted on. IMHO, those should be the first things on the demand list. No Compromises on those two. If the District is smart, those two can be achieved without any giveback.  In other words, don't sell us out just to organize UGS. If you want new members, well make sure that you get a great out package ($100.000 would get a lot of people to take an out - or even 75.000) to get the attrition you need to get new blood here.

One of the reasons I'm following this thread is because your (the Association) upcoming deal will give us an idea what our upcoming talks would be like. If your deal preserves your scope, along with reduced medical and the like, it will help us out big time. Hopefully I will get he chance to speak to the leadership of the District during their upcoming roadshow newt week.

October 27, 2015:

Good morning TWU-IAM Association Fleet Service members,

Over the past several weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to conduct station visits in PHX and BOS and met with many LUS (Legacy US Airways) Association members. It is crystal clear that the members are extremely eager to get to the negotiating table with American Airlines and begin joint contract negotiations. I share your desire to get to the table, and we will do so very soon when all pre-bargaining preparations are complete.

Rest assured that your Union is keenly paying attention to recent industry events and that we are crafting our proposals appropriately.

The Fleet Service Negotiating Committee is finalizing the contract reconciliation process and contract openers based on membership proposals. Together we must focus on collectively bargaining and demanding a fair contract that is the envy of the industry, and reflects your contribution to the world's most profitable airline. We deserve nothing less.

When dates are set to meet with American Airlines, they will be immediately communicated to you.
The seniority integration committee is also scheduled to meet the week of November 9th in Washington DC and will work on a parallel track with the Negotiating Committee to address seniority issues and create lists for each classification per the TWU-IAM Association Seniority List Integration Agreement.
In other American Airlines related news, the carrier recently advised District 141 that they will begin cross-utilizing LAA (Legacy American Airlines)Fleet Service Clerks in the MIA, DFW and ATL airports to perform LUS Fleet Service work, in conjunction with the PSS cutover.

As a result of the cross-utilization, the job protection provision outlined in Article 3.H. of the US Airways and IAMAW Collective Bargaining Agreement will go into effect for eligible LUS Fleet Service Agents in MIA, DFW and ATL.
Article 3 H states:

“Job Protection – No furlough protection effective DOS: no employee will be furloughed to the street (providing the employee exercises his seniority to the fullest extent) as a result of any flight activity that may be transferred from LUS (Legacy US Airways) to LAA (Legacy American Airlines).

Cross Utilization – The Company may utilize LAA employees to perform LUS Fleet Service work at any location with both TWU and IAM Fleet Service Employees. In exchange for the cross utilization provisions contained within this paragraph, the Company agrees to provide additional job protections as defined below:

Extend the Letter of Agreement regarding flight activity as described in the LUS CBA until a JCBA is ratified. When the calculation is done under the CBA, the Company will count all Mainline Jet Departures of the combined LUS/LAA operation as part of that calculation.

Job Protection – No displacement: effective with the implementation of cross utilization at a specific station, no employee will be involuntarily displaced from that specific station.

The job protections described above will apply only to those employees whose names appear on the Fleet Service System Seniority List as of the date of ratification of this agreement and shall not apply in circumstances where the Company’s non-compliance is caused in substantial part by Conditions beyond the Company’s Control.”

I look forward to meeting with many more IAM members around the system in the near future, so I can hear firsthand your concerns, opinions and suggestions.

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Mike Klemm

I cant read these updates anymore  was this one dated today or last week or last month? What it say? they are going to meet to talk about seniority? I thought this issue was resolved  like last year? Im frustrated beyond belief. Whats going on here? when are they going to meet with the company? Parker said hes ready to go

Here is my truncated perspective on what I read.

1. They still have no negotiation dates scheduled. After all the unofficial hype that the 'two unions reached agreement between eachother', I admit I was disappointed.
2. They couldn't work out seniority issues so they created a second committee to address the concern of both unions, so we can at least move into negotiations. Yes, seniority issues were already agreed to, but my understanding is that both unions interpret it differently. Surprised yet? Let's see if both committees can stay parallel to eachother as the letter claims.

The rest of the letter...he just cut and pasted our contract regarding cross utilization where the LAA can now do LUS work. Great for management.

Basically, this letter was a real yawner and disappointing. Sorry, but I'll be more interested when the Association says they have done what the members wanted and scheduled negotiation dates. Until then, not too interested in BS. They should already have been in there negotiating but they can BS all they want. Once in negotiations, imo, they can take as long as they want to get a industry LEADING contract. Getting a quickie isn't the point but they need to be meeting.

My concern is that this industry changes fast, and if we are still petering around with the two headed union then we aren't in position to negotiate if changes do happen.

Remember, as quickly as positive change has happened in this industry, over the past couple months, this industry can change on a dime and reverse.

regards,

The seniority issue cant possibly be with fleet service. Are we waiting for MTC? Can fleet service go it alone?

Yes,we now have seniority issues. After 14 months of the agreement that addresses seniority, issues apparently remain between the two unions. It may be that the occupational seniority issue was not resolved by the unions over the past few months, and that is the reason why they morphed in another committee.

God help our souls! I guess they figured two unions, so might as well have two committees now. I hate two QB systems, but they do work sometimes. Time will tell.

Whatever the case, anyone can have their opinion, and mine may be wrong, but the bottom line is that the Association hasn't done its job to secure negotiation dates even after the prez said we have made it crystal clear to him.

regards,

They never morphed into a committee, the seniority committee was established a long time ago under the seniority agreement.

They have always been separate to address the issues.

The members were announced a long time ago.

History has shown the financial environment, especially in this industry, changes continually. In most cases it changes gradually with the markets, oil prices, consumer confidence and such. In other cases it changes on a dime, global crisis, acts of terrorism, acts of God and such. The fruit, right now, is ripe for the picking. Record projected and Q3 profits. Let's get to the table! Lock and Load!

How has seniority become an issue? Maybe they put out these letters just to say they did. I thought seniority had been decided but maybe it isn't. If they can't agree with each other how can they possibly deal with the company. Not a fan of the association which was not voted on by the members, and the 2 unions stumble over each others feet. Very strange that they have Delta's deal to make the wait worth it. I wonder what the seniority issue is? I was told it is occupational seniority that would be used for each work group.
