AFA labor discussion (Work related)

You have never really used catcre have you, you dont need to be in a supervisors screen to see what is happening you just need to know what screen to find what. Call Cathy and ask her.........She Called in sick and was not sick period. It was a stupid mistake and now She WILL pay the piper.

BTW I WILL NOT GET OVER IT I WILL SEE TO IT THAT MY UNION REP IS HELD TO STANDARD, NO LIES.......I AM ENTITLED TO THAT FOR MY MONTHLY DUES

SO IN CLOSING U GET OVER IT
Air,
I repeat, NOTHING indicates in catcrew what circumstances or why a person is not on a trip. There are only 2 places that indicate the reason and I pointed those out in the earlier post. There's nothing to know about which screen shows anything...it's in violation of HIPPA and other Federal workplace laws to disclose such information to coworkers, the public or anyone (including other supervisors) who don't have a need to know.
This really is just nothing more than "I'm going to make up a lie and go with it." No proof, no logical explanations or interpretations of how the information was obtained...let's just see who bites.
(last sentence deleted by me because it was irrelevent.)

I just worked on 2 separate Airbus aircraft that had a different style buckle that would not accomodate a seatbelt extension. I am wondering if they are being replaced so that an extension cannot be used?
Those must be the new generation AB with the rotation dial buckle. Those are just the style on those particular AC. I am not sure if the company is replacing old style with new on other AC or not, but that would be a solution. The FAA would have to approve the conversion.
Barrington might have the answer.

Actually it was the old style lap belts and shoulder harnesses. The buckle just wasn't the standard seatbelt. I was on a 319. And I totally agree that if you need an extension then you need a diet as well. I have worked with many people that have to buckle their seatbelt as if they were laying on the bed to zip up their skinny jeans. When the weight limitations went out the window in the 90's so did the life expectancy of a jumpseat.

So, if everyone is so concerned with the Union's business (or lack thereof) the recall, etc., how come there was no word here about the meeting in PHL today about the recall?

Did anyone attend? I would but I'm based in CLT and on duty. I would certainly like to hear if "anyone" attended.

Hearsay about J/S extensions are digressing from the REAL issues going on here. 😛h34r:

Well, meeting was interesting. Some wanted to know why we were recalling as they felt that the reps were doing a good job, and that if those in attendance wanting to vote for the recall, that our attention should be twds the MEC. They used an analogy that the LEC was like your local town council only there to fix potholes or sewerlines. Some did not like the cost involved. My feelings are that when the MEC handed down the piece of reserve crap section of the TA, and I did not hear 1 word of protest from the LEC- they deserve to go. I finally found something useful to spend my 13 yrs of reserve union dues on, no matter if its a $10,000 tab or not. I think I have contributed enuf $$ to have a say.

I agree about spending the money to recall some members of council 70, for exp. the LECP.
Not too long ago AFA used our dues monies not once but twice as they UNSUCCESSFULLY tried to get Delta onboard. This (recall) is a drop in bucket compared to what was spent on campaigning for Delta. All the problems you see in PHL and the problems prior to the new CLT president stems from their lack of action to JNC dealings w/ company. Normally sh*t rolls down hill, well here it is rolling up! 😀
Someone once told me that the union is like an upsidedown triangle. Leaders on the bottom, Flt Attendants on top. Leaders are to serve those they represent, not other way around.
Somewhere in the last 5yrs or so the LEC's, current MECP & Carol forgot that.
That is why the f/a's are cleaning house.

I hope International is taking notice as one day the whole lot may be voted out and a new union could be on property. It could happen.

Hats off to the PHL f/as for an organized job very well done!

And to the Local Council, Let me get my singing voice on...

"Bye Bye Birdie,
I'm gonna miss you so;
Bye Bye Birdie,
Why'd you have to go? Boo, hoo
No more sunshine,
It's followed you away;
I'll cry Birdie,
Bye Bye Birdie,
It's awful hard to bear".
Sniff, sniff 😛

This afternoon, a special meeting was called by the AFA International Secretary/Treasurer, Kevin Creighan, at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott, to determine whether or not a ballot should be distributed to all PHL-based flight attendants for the purposes of recalling the PHL Local Council officers. The turnout was about 100 members and each member present was allowed to bring three proxies; therefore, each member potentially had four votes.

The votes were as follows:

For circulation of a recall ballot of the LEC President, 199 votes FOR circulating a recall ballot and 88 votes AGAINST.
For circulation of a recall ballot of the LEC Vice President, 197 votes FOR circulating a recall ballot and 85 AGAINST.
For circulation of a recall ballot of the LEC Secretary, 191 votes FOR circulating a recall ballot and 87 AGAINST.
Therefore, the AFA International Secretary/Treasurer will distribute a ballot on or about March 10 to all PHL-based flight attendants. Polls will close on March 31st. As Mr. Creighan pointed out, this recall election will cost over $10,000. It was also pointed out that the current officers have less than four months remaining on their term. Additionally, the election for your new local officers, that are scheduled to take office on July 1, will be delayed until April, after the recall election is determined.

So, when you receive your ballot, a vote FOR recall means you want to remove your current officers on March 31. A vote AGAINST recall means that you want your current local officers to complete their term, which ends on June 30th. If all PHL local officers are recalled, the LEC Presidents from DCA and CLT will choose interim officers for PHL until such time as the regularly scheduled election is completed. If they can’t agree on interim officers, the MEC President can break the tie.

Regards,

Council 70

John, Grace and Omar were ALL asked if they would agree to step down since the membership had overwhelmingly spoke and allow the winners of the new election to take office right away and save the membership money. NOPE...they want NOTHING to do with it. So, for those that want to vote NO and allow the three members to sit until their term is up KNOW THIS, The officers were asked and they said flat out NO! So now it most certainly is more about THEM than it is about YOU! Oh and Omar wants to contest some of the votes? Seriously, give me a G'damn break already. Holy hell ! ! ! !

Oh and for all of you that are SO CONCERNED about this 10k number being thrown around....why haven't you been so concerned with the LOCAL 70 budget being over by almost $22,000.00? Ummmm HELLO????????? 🙄

At what price the cost of freedom? Someone said something like that a few hundred years ago. $10,000 is a small price to pay to wipe the slate clean. Mr. Creighan should understand that we've had enough with business as usual. Did he learn nothing from CLT? You can't just ignore us any more. I would imagine that International would come up with a new way of thinking and doing business given recent activities and frustration.

Veda are you watching? I hope so and take notes, too. The MEMBERSHIP wants a fiscally responsible and HONEST union. Better start trimming the fat and getting rid of the waste. No more living high on the hog with our union dues!

A good hearty change to the Constitution and B-Laws could help out. Let's see, (I said it once and I'll say it again) outlaw the practice of an LEC officer also holding an MEC position (officer or chair), outlaw ANY union representative from being allowed to "purchase" union materials when they leave (or get booted out of) office. That would include cellphones, computers, furniture. All this does is leave the incoming officer with nothing and the membership with a huge bill to pay for replacements. Require accurate minutes be posted from meetings on the AFA board for the benefit of the members who could not attend. Require either video conferencing or phone conferencing whenever possible to avoid excessive expenses such as hotels, meals, transportation. Et cetera, Et cetera, Et cetera (for those that don't remember that scene from the King And I, try And the Beat Goes On by Sonny and Cher).

Ah, forgive me but I digressed. The point simply is Thank you Council 70 for the update. I'm glad efforts to sanitize our union so that it is functional once again have continued.

I wish there was an emoticon for backflips and ninja squats!

Bear in mind that Council 66 in PHX is up for re-election. I stay informed both East and West and if any of you watch Crew News we should all support our colleagues in PHX in the upcoming elections. Stay united!

$10,000 is a lot to pay for a few months. That's fiscally stupid. I think Mr. Creighan was trying to point that out without being rude.

That's coming out of the Local's budget. For what? John's not running again..... 🙄

What part of we don't need to piss away money do you not understand?

And speaking of the Constitution and Bylaws.....they are not there for you to "fiddle" with to suit you and your desire to reconstruct the Council of #89. Any action to change our Bylaws to suit one person.....or President....will be met with serious resistance. In other words....it ain't happening.

Would that be the same constitution that your MEC follows? The one that they seem to be playing fast and loose with to suite their needs? I don't think anyone takes it lightly (Barring your MEC). They want to make legal changes that don't allow the union leadership to run amok and then have to show no responsibility for it. As has been found out your international leadership can't even be held accountable for their actions when it is detrimental to their constituents. Not even the US congress has that ability.

Fiscally stupid? Sounds like our former LEC pres here in CLT. What could be more fiscally irresponsible than to leave three incompetent officers in office for the next 4 months? What message are you sending to your members? You arent happy with their performance but you are willing to sacrifice 72,000.00 to save 10,000.00. These are the officers that have been asked to resign which would save the 10,000.00 and are thumbing their noses at their membership.

I have a question for you Flybynite. How do you explain fiscal responsibility for a base who's local office is $21,000.00+ over budget? The membership spoke with the votes, that's pretty plain and simple yet we go round and round. We had almost 200 proxies that didn't have a body to take them into the meeting and look at how overwhelming the vote was without them. If the local officers are so concerned about the $10,000.00 they would step down in light of their recall and save the membership their dues. So ANYWAY! ! ! ! ! Would they agree to that? NOPE ! ! ! ! They instead are going to fight and scratch at the eyes of the very membership that recalled them. I'm so sick and tired of this type of AFA business. The tone of the officers voices toward the membership during their recall meeting said enough. What they need to do is be respectful of their members and honorably step down. Damn it already. ENOUGH! ! ! !
