What's new

East crews out West.

It's a shame that civilized behavior can't be expected as common. During the Delta fiasco I ended up in an elevator with one of our pilots and a Delta pilot. I am ashamed that he made the first conversational overture. Frankly I just didn't know how he would react if I said "Hi". We had a nice little chat about the overnight and off we went. People are people and none of us chose this mess. The industry we work for has changed drastically and none of it is out fault.

The same executives that play God with stock prices, airplanes, shareholders and our livelihoods think nothing of having drinks together at the end of the day. Should we be different? Is it ridiculous to say "business is business" and leave it at that?

I largely fly international, and I have had a lot of AWA crew on board. I think it's great that they go regardless of there being 2 seats open and damn the consequences. They use their larger vacation allottment with vigor and God bless them. And just to be clear, on my flights I routinely have former shuttle, former Mohawk, former Piedomont and former Us working beside me. None of them will be anything but cordial. Go ahead and take the jumpseat and enjoy the little we have left. We flight attendants are a largely easy going bunch and there isn't the hostility that may emanate from other quarters.

UsAirways has had too many mergers to get hung up on who's who and what's what. Speaking for myself, I do NOT hold AWA employees responsible for the mess that has been created. Neither of us asked for this and we are just doing the best that we can.

Thanks Galley Princess - I feel the same way as you - as fellow flight attendants now, I have had NOTHING but the best treatment between West and East f/a's. You guys are always very nice to us and there is absolutely no ill feelings that I have experienced since this merger. I will treat all of you how I want to be treated. It is always fun (and informative) to talk about what is happening especially with combining our contract. The only negative - I have witnessed personnally some of our West pilots being treated very rudely by East pilots. It is amazing that the pilot group does not understand that like us, the employees have had NO say as to what and how this all happened. Looking forward to flying with you all - in the end it is US against them (Dougie). Make the best of it. Hope to meet you soon Galley Princess!!

How did this thread get Way OFF topic?? I am glad to see the East crews enjoy more West flying. I just wish we could decrease some of our PHL flying, yuk! No offense. Don't care for the hotels, or the trips they make us fly in and out of there. Long duty days, with turns in and out of the West. I miss the BOS flying too, seems we have lost a lot of layovers, bummer, love the downtown Hotel!! What is up with all the TPA and MCO long layovers?? Flip flop nightmares. Have any of you seen where the DEN layovers have gone? Seems we don't have them anymore, just a real short one. I noticed they have decreased the frequency to and from DEN, bad for the millions of commuters. I guess WN is making all the money now in that market?? As far as the ANC layovers, they are really hard to work. You depart at 8pm PHX time, and arrive around 12 am ANC time, 24 hours later leave around 1 am. No food on either flights, even if F/C. Great hotel, and lots to do, especially in the summer. Sometimes we have the ANC day layover, arrives at 4pm, depart ANC around 5pm the next day, but it is usually a turn out of LAS. Also, if any of you Easties get a chance, the YVR layover is wonderful, great hotel too! Happy flying! Wish we could see PVD soon!

Is ANC the CC? I remember smoked salmon until you couldn't eat anymore.

If it was 32 degrees kids would be wearing shorts because it was a heat wave.

PHL airport ops sucks but being in the city is great.

Some great dive bars like "Dirty Franks" and the "Locust Bar".

Haven't done it but there is a dive bar pub crawl certain times of the year.

Olde City is great if you want to spend the money. It's come a long way from 10 years ago.

Yes. ANC is not the same cold as experienced on the East though. A dry, comfortable cold. Philly is a great city. SO is PIT, miss those layovers too. The trips they have us flying, make the PHL layovers sux, too long duty days. PHX-SEA-PHL, PHL-LAS-PHL, PHL-SAN-PHL, etc. The short layover reminds me of EWR, yuk!! If I am on the East rather be in JFK. Too bad you don't go in and out of the airport, LGA can't compare!! DCA in nice most of the time, always like BWI too. IAD use to be an nice layover, now it is a Turn out of PHX. 😀

How is the long BUR layover? All our PSA girls rave about how wonderful it was at the . I think BUR is actually closer to all the fun in Hollywood and WeHo if i am correct.

Does US/HP use the Puffin Inn in ANC?

Everytime I am in DC now when I'm not living there I use the Crown Plaza hotel...its near the airport and very nice...all the crews use it. the BWI layover is a dump.

We stay in the heart of Burbank, close to airport, and a big shopping mall. Gorden Bursh pub, close to the studios of Jay Leno. Considered North Hollywood. Have to rent a car to go to WEHO. 🙂

I never have heard of the Puffin Inn?? Is that suppose to be funny?? We stay at a very BIG hotel with nice restaurants. Look it up intern! Besides where is your internship, and how do you fly so much with US?? Is your mom a US flight attendant??

I enjoy the BOI overnights. We used to stay at a better hotel, but alas, we moved. The downtown area is surprisingly "cultural" for such a small city. Neat independent restaurants, stores, bars, etc. It is also very clean, relaxing and beautiful. If you can get a BOI layover, I highly recommend it.

Met the nicest LGA crew today on my commute in from SAN. They actually all hated the west flying because the days were too long and rests too short. But, they had nice things to say about the folks out west.

The BOI overnite hotel is great! The old hotel rennovated and kicked us out for Southwest, imagine that??? I think the DT is very nice, and looks the same. The beds are wonderful and room's are huge!!! We just have to drag our bags up the stairs, oh well. I love the lake and jog run. BOI is beautiful. 😀

I guess I got the shaft from the US Airways folks last time I went to ANC...I asked for the crew layover hotel and they sent me to Puffin Inn where I saw Alaska Crew(s) and Delta as well...and no I was not TRYING to be funny 🙂

I wanted to get a Hotel downtown but no deal...next time I'm saying screw them if they bring Puffin up.

I'm not doing my internship w/ Mesa anymore but I was based out of IAD for United Express and occasionally I'd be in PHX as well. As for nonrevving around US...I just get around 😉

Edit:
I just realized why I got shafted...the bleep heads...US uses outsourced Delta agents in ANC.

Is it as comfortable as the 'dry heat' in Pheonix'?

Yup...When I went to ANC it was at about 22 degrees but everyone was walking outside with shorts and tees...I was like what gives then realized it was not that crisp cold but a refreshing breeze...downtown ANC was very beautiful with the daylight going/coming and the stars...WOW...

As for Phoenix's dry heat at 110-120ish...whew that's a doozy that sneaks up on you from the behind.
