Can you say FMLA, no different from anyone else. This man and his family went through hell and back.

Actually, unpaid leave with the use of sick or vacation time is the usual method if there is to be any pay. Paid leave is not a requirement of an employer on FMLA otherwise, and re-affrimed under Strickland v. Water Works and Sewer Board of the City of Birmingham -- "The FMLA explicitly permits employers to provide covered leave on an unpaid basis. 29 U.S.C. § 2612". Furthermore, "[a]n eligible employee may elect, or an employer may require the employee, to substitute any of the accrued paid vacation leave, personal leave, or medical or sick leave of the employee for ... any part of the 12-week period".

I do not believe that US provides pay while a ramper is FMLA, outside of earned sick or vacation time, so to have regular wages while absent from work due to FMLA would be a rather generous benefit provided by the IAM.

So Cites Jester.

P Rez,

Answer to your question is......... During a ramp breifing by managers M.Bowman and M.Johnson they specifically stated they walk inside the terminals and "spy" on rampers from inside the terminal. Not only that but it seems more than ever supervisors are doing our work and nothing is being done. When are you and your committee gonna put a stop to this, all i ever here is that Im going to look into it. Im sick and tired of you talking tough on this board and not doing anything on the ramp. I dont want to hear that people will not stand up and back you.. that excuse is long gone... take a leadership role and do something about it. I wanna see you get in the companies face and comfront them

jester... you seem intelligent why dont you step up and represent the membership.. show yourself and help us

Somebody give me the time and place that a sup was doing our work and it will be grieved by me and the employee next in line for O.T. will get it. I have gone to DS and he said that under no circumstance should a supervisor be doing our work and that O.T would be awarded if grieved. If there are any other issues you want addressed you can PM me or come up to me and ask. I hammer the management team constantly on contractual violations I am aware of. If you are tired of issues maybe you should get involved and I will bring you into a meeting I have with management and you can see what goes on.

Rez,

M.Bowman and M.Johnson, yesterday doing our work, and telling PM shift that they were gonna "spy" on us at work. Take it up with them ASAP, see if they lie about it? This is how management intimidates people, they say the are going to "spy" on us what kind of upper mgmnt would allow this? Its equivalent to a prison camp or prison yard mentality. Dont get me started on this "new" bid your allowing the company to get away with either.

Now I'm having flashbacks to the years I spent on the PHX ramp!

Nothing has changed there. M Bowman is a big bag of gas but he still contains a spark of humanity. You can work with him. He's a good guy but he hides it with his bluster and his John Candy-like frame. The other guy, however, is a piece of human dreck. His only purpose in this life is to use up our precious oxygen and extinguish joy and all other positive life forces. He was the one who would put rampers on a gate with flights back-to-back and deny them a lunch break. He would point to a 30 minute gap between 0500 (start of the shift) and 0530 and say that you should have taken a lunch during that time. He performed fleet work. He would threaten to fire rampers and leads if a flight took a delay. He's still there and nothing has changed. Have you ever worked with someone who refused to let anyone enjoy a pleasant day at work? That's the guy!

Don't bother anyone on the GC about this either. Unless they are impacted personally they could care less. I spoke to an east coast AGC that went to PHX to help remedy this situation and he was told that they didn't need anyone from out east meddling in their business. He helped get the GC an office on the premises and a certain poster on this board complained that it was now too easy for people to "bug" him.

MJ wouldn't last long out east. He would supply enough rope to hang himself in short time.

As far as spying from the terminal, they can do that. Everywhere I've been since PHX the managers do that. They don't brag about it, however, and that crosses the line of intimidation. Just makes you wonder what paying passengers think when they see managers doing this. The PHX ramp director used to stand on the top level of the parking garage with a radio and binoculars.

He said she said. The PHX GC would never turn down help from any AGC.

No, the PHX GC supported an AGC that never set foot in PHX until election time along with a UA AGC and escorted them around, all the while the AGC that was fighting for you guys was not given the time of day by you guys around that time, and then you turn your backs on that same AGC that got you a room to use as an office, and has been there to support PHX all along. I would say that was turning down support from an AGC when you guys pretty much run him out of dodge, wouldn't you?

PHX had the opportunity and one of the best, but for reasons only known to RR CL and PR made a bad choice. It is a scam these three played the membership here in the valley. We are all paying the price in lost overtime because they allow management to do our job. Grieve it, thats a laugh, the only paperwork the three amigos know how to file comes on a roll and is installed in the latrene. I've been in PHX only a short time and even I can see the three amigos are the root of the problems here. NH did a great job here, he just figured the rattlers were on the other side of the table. I will be watching and reporting. PHX will become a great place to work. We let these amigos run this place into the ground. Let's get active and eligable and have a run at em. I suggest everyone "bug the GC" until he does something. He is elected not appointed. If he fails to do anything show up at the union meeting and deny him trips to the chairmans conference and the district convention as a delegate. He needs to earn it, not sit in his office and complain about being bugged.

You should step up and run, 6 meetings is needed for LL2559 to be eligible. See you at the meetings and welcome aboard.

Rez,

Did you talk to those managers about "spying" yet???? what was their answer??? What about them doing our Jobs???

Whats these new funky letters Roth is putting out? you know the membership, should get one from the GC after they meet with the company so we know what you guys are doing..... And I dont like him telling me that if I do certain things wrong that I may be disciplined or terminated... Leave that BS to the company. I understand what he is trying to say, but its the wrong message we need good solid info.... His are more like management updates

that usually comes from someone that is a company boy. We had a committee man like that once He was only in office 1 term , the last thing a dues paying member wants to hear from his ELECTED officer is
excuses from the company. Once you get a person in office that is truly dedicated to his membership and not his personal interest ( freebies from management, special favors and such) you will see that kinda of behavior stop. Had a chance to go to phx a few years back . glad I made the decision I made. The leadership I have in my city is working first and foremost for the membership . Weekly briefings "good or Bad" Grievance Office door ALLOWS OPEN. If you call after hours get a prompt return call. Good luck to you guys in phx

Hard to have the grievance door open at all times when we are not ever in there because we are not off line. Waiting on the arbitration for GC time off.

Will address locally on Union board soon.

As far as I know, a manager "spying" on workers at work doing their job is not a CBA violation.

There is nothing to stop them from looking from windows and such but bragging about it may constitute intimidation. It's a stretch, perhaps.
