RECALL POSSIBILITY FOR FLIGHT ATTENDANTS CURRENTLY ON EXTENDED
LEAVE (EXL)

The Company is in the process of recalling 180 Flight Attendants
from the Involuntary Furlough list. The recall is effective
April 15, 2008. Every involuntary furloughed Flight Attendant
has either accepted recall or resigned. During the past two
recalls the drop out rate has been significant for Flight
Attendants who accepted a recall opportunity. Flight Attendants
who had indicated a willingness to be recalled either did not
complete the return process or failed to attendant training. The
drop out rate has been as high as 70%.

In the current recall process 302 Flight Attendants accepted
recall. If the drop out rate is more than 40% then it will
become necessary to begin the recall of Flight Attendants on
Extended Leave (EXL).

Flight Attendant on Extended Leave originally accepted a
Voluntary Furlough and when the term of the Voluntary Furlough
expired (the "Expiration Date") were offered the chance to
return to work or remain on furlough status for an indefinite
duration-EXL-until recalled.

That time may be rapidly approaching and the Company has sent
all Flight Attendants on the EXL list the following letter:

Re: Possible Recall from Voluntary Furlough (EXL)
Dear xxxx:

The Company is currently recalling 180 flight attendants from
the involuntary recall list. These recalled flight attendants
will be returned as of April 15, 2008. Although we must exhaust
our involuntary list before we move to the voluntary furloughs
(EXL), it is highly likely that we will not get the necessary
numbers from those remaining on the involuntary furlough roster.

Therefore, it is possible that it will be necessary for us to
begin recalling flight attendants who are on a voluntary
furlough (EXL). This recall would be effective May 1, 2008. It
is important for you to know that the recalls for your group
will be done in inverse seniority order. Enclosed with this
letter is a bidding form where you will be asked to do one of
two things:

- Indicate your intent to return to your last base of record
(xxx), or
- Resign
After placing the list in inverse order, your recall number will
be x of 765.

The enclosed form must be returned to InFlight Planning &
Administration no later than Noon (ET), April 3, 2008. The form
may either be faxed or mailed - both the fax number and address
are on the form. If you fail to return the form at all, you will
be considered resigned, and it will result in your removal from
the Flight Attendant System Seniority list.

Should we find it necessary to recall you, you will receive a
letter shortly after the bid closing indicating your recall
award (followed by a complete return-to-work packet). If we do
not reach your seniority in inverse order, your bid form will
become null and void and you will remain on the voluntary
furlough roster. Notification will also be sent to these
individuals.

Each person on the voluntary furlough (EXL) list is being sent
this letter by both US Mail and Certified Mail. Importantly, you
need only return one of the forms. If you have questions, you
may contact [email protected] or
[email protected].
Here are some key components that Flight Attendants on Extended
Leave must keep in mind:
There are currently 765 Flight Attendants on Extended Leave.

Recall from the EXL list is processed in inverse seniority
order. Inverse seniority is used because there is no passing.
Flight Attendants on the EXL list are offered a one-time recall
opportunity. "Any voluntary furloughee (EXL) who declines recall
will be deemed to have resigned from US Airways, and the Flight
Attendants name will be stricken from the system seniority list"
(Contract 1-5 lines 28-33).

You will be recalled to your former base of record (the base you
were furloughed from). In the case of former PIT Flight
Attendants, your base of record is the base you selected, or if
you failed to select a base, were assigned, when the PIT
domicile was closed.

A Flight Attendant on Extended Leave will retain their longevity
(for pay and vacation) through the Expiration Date of their
original Voluntary Furlough but no further accrual of longevity
beyond the Expiration Date.

Carry over of pre-furlough sick bank and pre-furlough vacation,
if any.

Retention of original Date Of Hire for the purposes bidding and
pass travel.

IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU RESPOND TO THE LETTER BY FILLING OUT
THE BIDDING FORM AND RETURNING THE FORM TO THE COMPANY BY NOON
(EDT) APRIL 3, 2008. IF YOU FAIL TO RETURN THE FORM BY THAT DATE
YOU WILL BE DEEMED TO HAVE RESIGNED AND WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE
SENIORITY LIST.

As the letter states, if the recall process does not reach your
seniority in inverse order, your form will be considered null
and void and you will remain on the EXL list.
Please feel free to contact the Union with any questions.

Thank you,

Is there just the VFLR remaining? What is the VFLR count?

DON'T DO IT!!!!!! Besides, since I don't fly US anymore, I can't rattle my party cup and have you wait on me.

GREAT...I can picture it now...all those voluntary furloughs that took the 10K buy-out will come back because they found out the grass is not greener on the other side......they'll be at the bottom but still act like they have their old seniority......can you say U-G-L-Y ???
I have not finished reading all of the replies..

however... I am going to respond...

They are not quite done w/ the involuntary recalls...

then they go to the voluntary furlough recall list...

then..... the buy outs.... but don't think they will go there...

they do not have to cuz those seperated from the company...

so after the voluntay furloughs... they hire...

here is the letter I recieved today from AFA...

Thanks! I am one that took the 9/2005 $10K buyout. I am halfway through law school, and there is no way I would come back. One thing that isn't quite clear though: Will the Company recall the VFLRs in seniority order, or will they be recalled in inverse seniority? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Happy Easter everyone!
inverse seniority

is how it will be...

and why do you care anyway..???

Finish law school like you left for and be on with it... if they call you back say no...
I doubt that you will be recalled...

when I go on the seniority list ... in my base those who took the buyout are not on the list anymore...

gone poof....

those who just took VFL...are still there...

DON'T DO IT!!!!!! Besides, since I don't fly US anymore, I can't rattle my party cup and have you wait on me.
baby, you don't need a party cup for me to "wait" on you!

any clue how many are left on the invol list? i need to plan my weight loss diet so i can fit into my business casual skort...

I cannot, I repeat, CANNOT wait to see you in the Size 2 zipup dress...that alone may make me come back to US. With a little duct tape, you may be able to get into Gloria's Size 0. Hmmmmm....does this mean I can come over during the day and take a nap on the couch at your crashpad?

This place continues to amaze me. I have yet to make my time since last summer, those of us in PHL have gone down hundreds of numbers because of the PIT displacments, we have many more reserves, we will be parking planes soon. The list goes on and on. So what do these idiots, do start recallaing people that have lots of seniority only to push everyone down again. We will never get anywhere with this company.

You are incorrect. The VFLR WAS a furlough w/limited recall. It was never a separation, it was written as a furlough with limited recall rights.

THE COMPANY MUST COMPLY WITH THE LANGUAGE; WILL COMPLY WITH THE LANGUAGE OF THE VFLR PROVISIONS.

Either you misread, were mislead, misinformed, or listened to someone that was ignorant of the language.

Wow, did not realize that soo many had taken the "original" VFLR.....765! Now if I'm not mistaken, that original VFLR was for 3 years, so they would have had they're seniority frozen after those 3 years were up till now even if they extended.....is that right? It can be a little confusing trying to figure all of this out!

None! Everyone on the invol list has either resigned, accepted or forced to return to work.

The first person that was on that list Sept 99 was assigned PHL.

It is being assumed that about 30ish from the Vol list will be forced back and that seems like it will be your seniority.

Their seniority for bidding (vacation, blocks etc) did NOT freeze. They only had their pay and vaction ACCRUAL frozen. They still bid at their original hire date.

What a bargain! You basically step right back in and pick up where you left off almost 6 years ago! We have all lost pay and vacation since these original VFLR's left, especially if they were already topped out in pay.

I took the VFLR (originally left on the Voluntary Furlough 2 in Dec. of 2002) and have yet to receive any notification from the company about being recalled. I'm at the same mailing address I was when I left, so I'm not sure what happened to my letter. And if they want a response by April 3, shouldn't they have gotten these things out a little sooner??
