What's new

TATTLETALE

I would rather see MORE flight attendants getting involved in the union to bring about change. The more voices the union hears the more they will have to change their way of thinking or be voted out. That kind of pressure only comes from union members taking the time to get involved by picking up the phone, sending an e-mail, attending a meeting or for Gosh sakes VOTE!
It won't happen. The last 2 meeting in CLT had 40 people(33 rsv's and 7 BH's) and 15 people(mostly rsv's). Noone shows up. BH's don't show up because their lives are pretty damn good right now. They have multiple ways to adjust their schedules, they have rsv's trying to pick-up their trips(just to get a decent paycheck). What the hell are they going to go to the meeting for. Not enough rsv's show up to show our union that we really mean business. When Pat Friend was at the last CLT meeting, it might as well have been a private meeting between her and I. There wasn't anyone there. She was really surprised. Both of these meeting lasted about 5 hours. The only BH's who showed up were i uniform(meaning they were probably checking in for their trips or just between flights).

While the message of the letter is mean spirited this is not the Cyndy that I knew. She was an advocate during the Contract negotiations as she personally wrote letters to Lakefield stating that they were overplaying the Bankrupty. I firmly believe that Reserves at this Airline will be second class citizens as long as this system remains . I am glad that you will not go unnoticed..............YOU ALL DESERVE BETTER.

It is difficult for people to make meetings for various reasons. I know as a reserve the meetings are always on days that I end up working. So, I have been to very few.

While trolling the reserve AFA66 reserve board link somebody posted, I noticed several things they do that we do not, and it made me think of a few things I would like to see our union do.

First, a reserve board is a great idea. It makes finding information quick and easy to find.

Second, letting members send in questions, comments, etc. via e-mail to the union meetings. What a GREAT idea.

Third, tape the meeting - either audio or video would be okay and make it available for view/download off the site. If they can't do that then at the very least make a transcript of the meeting available within 24 hours.

Fourth, during the meetings they could use a laptop to open up a chat room. In the chat room members can ask questions, make statements, etc., that can be shared with those at the meeting. Heck they could even hold a virtual meeting if they wanted to.

Fifth, a secure union message board.

We are a group that is operating under strained conditions. Some people commute, some people are working second jobs, some are working ETB on their days off and just cannot make it to a meeting. It does not mean that they do not have questions and concerns they want to express. The easier the union makes it for the members to get involved the more that will get involved. As an added benefit, once the lines of communication are established and easier the block holders and reserves will start to understand each other and work with each other.

Right now, it just seems that the union doesn't want to use the technology that is available that would enable the membership to become more active. Right now, it seems they like us in the dark.

Too bad for them that some of us are crawling out into the light and we will be bringing others with us.

I would be all for finding/creating a new union. A lot of this could resolved with eliminating overflying. However, they just continue to let it happen. We have blockholders who fly 130, 140, 160 hours a month and nothing is ever said to them. I know Parker and Kirby aren't aware of this. It should be brought to their attention though because it is costing them a lot of money. I doubt the union or the supervisors will ever do anything it though because the BHs are treated like royalty and we are treated like servants. we have got to do something about this. This must be stopped!
Let me explain this again, changing unions will not change your CBA, under the RLA when you change unions the new union by law has to enforce the current CBA, they can only renegotiate when Section 6 Negotiations start which is 60 days prior to the amendable date.

You will be able to negotiate a single CBA since you have not accomplished that yet.

Maybe it's time to follow in the pilots footsteps and get a new union that only represents us?? you think???
Per the NMB Class and Craft ALL FAs at one airline are under the same certification, the NMB wont allow FAs to be covered by two unions and two CBAs. (this does not pertain to a merger, you still have two CBAs, one union is negotiating a single agreement.)

Oh, and another thing. The phrase, "I trust you will do your best to resolve this issue before the winter is upon us," annoys me to no end. Before the winter is upon us ?" It's so Dickensian. So "Little House on the Prairie." Lay in the salt pork and stock the root cellar, the winter will be upon us soon. Does Cyndy really believe that the time of year has any bearing on US Airways' capacity for ineptitude? "The winter" should be of little consequence to Cyndy; after all, if she chooses, she can while away most of it short-sleeved in the uterine, subtropical clime of her Florida residence. I can confidently predict that her Christmas dinner will not involve an attempt to reheat a deflated, half-eaten Sbarro calzone on the coffee maker's burner in a substandard hovel of the company's choosing. Nor will Christmas Eve find her on tenterhooks at The Airport Inn or The Sterling or The Lagoon anticipating a call from scheduling that never seems to come. She will not awaken the next morning to a holiday breakfast of tepid coffee and cardboard miniature powdered doughnuts served up on an undersized Styrofoam plate, all the while dreaming of Chrismases past and her Granny's biscuits and gravy. The winter may be approaching for the parisflygirl (part of her e-mail address, and from my experience, the "girl" part is egregiously inappropriate for one who has been at it for thirty-four years. Roughly one-third of her career has been sufficient to transform my outlook from that of a doe-eyed naif to one of a crusty old longshoreman.), but "the winter" has been beating down on reserves for years and years. Sure, Cyndy has endured some cold fronts, but we have been hunkered down in an Alberta Clipper for a very long time trying to survive on the scant provisions that remain. What Cyndy has done is tantamount to deliberately infecting our dwindling blanket cache with small pox (and we don't even have access to the plusher, warmer blankets of her rarefied international air). I can only arrive at one solution to finally put this baby to bed: a dance off! If someone could get the word out to Cyndy that I'm challenging her to a dance off in Philadelphia in front of the Rocky statue at the time of her choosing, I would appreciate it. The loser will be forced to resign from US Airways. If it comes up, I will concede going head-to-head with her doing the dances of her day; the Lindy hop, the Charleston, whatever. I think I am uniquely qualified to represent the reserves in this challenge, because my DVD collection includes "Flashdance", "Dirty Dancing", and "You Got Served". I thought I'd just throw it out there, but if she's not up for it, I would also consider a poetry slam or a "your mama" contest.

Ohhhh, somebody print this for Club OPR! Too funny!

News of her letter was all the rage yesterday in the crewroom. I do not think a FA entered that did not hear about the letter.

I totally agree and have been wondering myself why they can't get with the times and have more interactive meetings so that way those of us who aren't able to make it can still participate. Just because we are on a trip flying or have other commitments doesn't mean that we don't care. You're right, they do want to keep us in the dark. I think that's why they scheduled the meeting on such a short notice at a time when most reserves are off. I would tell you to forward your message to the union but they will probably come up with an excuse such as "our membership would never go for it." That's what they tell me everytime I offer an idea.

I'm just as burned up about Miss Thing as anyone but what I'm more burned up about and I'm not hearing any thing about is the fact that there is a Underground ETB going on in PHL.

Granted, they are finallizing through Scheduling but I look at this as a means to prevent people out side thier "click" from picking up trips.

Where is the outrage over this?? This galls me to no end. And I'd like to see them and their web site shut down.

It's so they don't have to worry about a reserve picking up thier trips as it's already been established that we are sub-human.

US Airways flight attendant group is arguably the biggest failure of any F/A group in the industry. Here are some of our accomplishments.

* Major airline with contract similar to commuters and budget carriers

* 1985 wages

* Dated, silly "me-too" clause with the most ball-less pilot group in the industry

* Worst reserve system with 24/7 duty and only way to make money giving up off days

* F/As with 9 years seniority eligible for food stamps and government aid in four of five domiciles

* Only carrier that permits seniority bullying in case of base closure displacement, affecting everyone on the seniority list

* Only major airline not hiring, only airline with furloughs (only other is AA-TWA)

* Worst scope clause in the industry, allowing express F/As to staff jets up to 90 seats, at what is the most short haul, regionalized, small aircraft oriented carrier of the majors.

* Dubious distinction of having more F/As on furlough than working at one point.

* Shrunk from nearly 11,000 to just over 5000, making us increasingly insignificant and weak in national AFA in a time of major consolidation.

* Bizarre, union sanctioned staffing model that puts people with 20 years on reserve. "Newest" most junior F/A was hired nearly a decade ago. Youngest F/A is almost 30.

* Shockingly poor voter turnout both for local elections and contracts.

* Can't negotiate a buyout anyone wants to take.

* Allowed two contracts on one certificate for "division" of airline, went along with company in not honoring these F/As longevity for active service

* Currently has two contracts on one certificate, negotiating new contract, of which 7 sections have been completed in 2 years. 35 sections left to go. That's some progress.

Now the union doesn't have control over some of these things, but I mean, come on... we are the losers, the laughingstock... just like the company we work for. Where is the outrage over ALL of these things, and many more?

Could any of this be because our own group would rather s*it on thier own or be selfish than try and empower themselves?

This F/A membership is anything but a union. Union or unity is the last thing that comes to mind.

Cyndy Atkins letter has just crystalized the whole thing, and put a face and a name to everything that is wrong with this group. She's just made herself a poster girl for the disgusting, ignorant attitude that has gotten us where we are today.
