ROA,

Im glad you brought up education, because as a union member JESTE........R if you are involved, get the local to send you and other members to William Winpinsinger. William Winpinsinger is the IAM college. It is nationally accredited. If you go there and attend the classes and do the assignments they will count towards a college degree. So this is another way the IAM benefits the members that are involved and want to get educated, they can receive a college education free of charge..... O wise one speaks again

Do you understand how there is more to this than simply being "pro-union" or "pro-management"? Why am I here at US Airways? I get paid to work out, drink soda, read, meet new people, and travel for free on my time off. Essentially, my job is to do things that other people wish they were doing with their spare time.
So what’s your gripe the bogey man is going to get you?

So what’s your gripe the bogey man is going to get you?

Who's griping? If I didn't like my job why would I come here to complain about it?

The truth is we all have the same sickness. It's an awful trap.

I never said you dont have influence over management I said unions dont run the company.

They have to follow the CBA, and if they violate it they have to pay for it, so it makes them think before they do something that will violate the CBA.

They have to follow the wages, benefits, vacations, pensions and everything in the CBA.

Like I said, go ask the East workers who were non-union in 1992 how the company changed their working conditions.

Go ask the Delta employees, not NW, but DL how much of a say did they have when the company changed their working conditions during their chapter 11 bankruptcy, ask them how many Section 1113 negotiations took place, oh thats right, there ramp and customer service is non-union so none.

Go ask the CO employees ramp and CSA what happened to them in 2005 when CO took concessions, did they have a say?

Do you get the pattern here?

Ask yourself why the airlines have one of the highest percentage of a unionized workforce, has to be a reason.

The union is looking out for the union and nobody else - the company is looking out for the company - the employee is trying to look out for themselves while being a member of the union AND working for the company. It is possible to work for a good company and get treated well and paid well all while NOT being in a union......not every company, not in the last 20 years when it comes to this industry. Don't try and tell us all that the union is the only silver lining left in our world - that silver is the steel wool that got pulled over your eyes.

I think what happens here are insertions of words that lead people to believe something one way or another. Why use the " NO CHOICE " term as it insinuates something other than what you write?

"ORGANIZE, EDUCATE & PARTICIPATE IN MAKING YOUR MEMBERSHIP STONGER BY REMEMBERING WHERE WE HAVE BEEN AND SHARING THAT INFORMATION WITH OTHERS".

Workers have a right to a just wage. Labor is not simply a commodity traded on the open market nor is it a just wage determined simply by the level the market will sustain. Every working person has the right to secure a better life.

It is one of the consequences of the way power is distributed in a free-market economy that employers frequently possess greater bargaining power than employees in the negotiation of wage agreements. Such unequal power often presses workers into a choice between inadequate wage and no wage at all. The provision of a wage sufficient to support a family in dignity is necessary to prevent the exploitation of workers. The dignity of workers also requires adequate health care, insurance for old age or disability and healthy work environments, rest and periodic holidays.

Unions provide an institutional means to these guarantees. Their purpose is to secure rights to fair wage and working conditions. As a union, we make progress together, by pooling our strengths.

Corporate interests have powerful political lobbyists, which buy and manipulate legislation to protect their interests. As a union we are in politics through our Community Action, not as a matter of choice, but out of necessity.

I think the so-called " East " persona is missunderstood due to the fact that the company its self see all of us that way. It is up to us to change that because Usairways won't do it for us.

All of the " I Told You So " is simply bore out of frustration and nothing else I believe.

well said and should probably be said again.....nice job 33

Ok Planemx

What did Franke do to the maintenance dept at HP when you were non union?

Was it 500+ layoffs when they outsourced your heavy mtc?

No relation to laying off the mechanics and then receiving at the time the highest fine from the FAA, almost shutting down your airline and then having to ask the FAA every time HP wanted to expand its fleet.

And tell me why is the airline industry one of the highest percentage of unionized workers in any industry?

Crawl out of the bag bin and see the real world our there.

Is the real world clearer in a bag bin, a bag room, riding on a tug, or sitting in an office looking down your nose at people doing the hard work?

I think it's completely hilarious that you're really trying to justify the demonizing of education. Education can be used in the fight against the working man, therefore education = bad. Nice.

Education is what I originally went to school to get my degree in, and I will likely be going back soon to finish while still at US; that way I can have the best of both worlds.
Jockey...

Very well written, and thoughtful responses! I wasn’t trying to say education is bad. Quite the opposite actually... I admire our scientist and chemist... the ones that still left in this country that is!

Even our most educated and valuable human resources such as chemist and scientist are getting outsourced to countries such as India, simply because they’ll work for much less!

You have the equation (education=bad) all wrong... try these formulas...

union+education=fairness

business education+greed+china and india=working poor in US

Hopefully, you will put your skills to use as an educator for Fleet Service! Get involved with your local...run for office...you have a lot to contribute!

So extends an eastern hand of gratitude...

BroBilly

700,

Franke did that to HP just like a host of other airline CEO's hosed their employees. I said the company is out for the company didn't I? Did the beloved unions save everybody that was wronged by their company? Been told 1st hand (from the the top in PIT) that the union doesn't care about the employees - they just want their dues. Put more work in base less in outstations, close here or there and move them somewhere else.......it doesn't matter. It is about the numbers for both the union and the company.....

I said it was possible to work for a good company, get paid well and NOT be in a union......didn't say it was either of these airlines (who says it is an airline at all?). Airlines are not the only industry that has unions buddy, they are in every corner of the workplace. Sorry you had such a miserable career full of sour grapes.

A couple of questions. Being that I'm being "displaced" now and I do believe I will be in CLT come early Sep/Oct.

Is there a bid coming up?
What can a guy with 14 years expect to be awarded? Ramp, Bagroom, etc.

Thx in advance.

Yes there is a bid coming up that will be eff 14Sep. This one is going to be different & no doubt short as a longer schedule will kick in some time in Nov. I think this bid is going to be bid 2nd week of Aug. To answer your question I would say night shift for sure, weekdays off most likely. Other than that I think you've got a good choice. Perhaps Joe or Oman has heard more.

Let me know when you are coming.

Thx Harry, can always count on a quick reply from you. I expected the nights and weekdays, but I was wondering more the assignment. Need to know if I have to get back into ramp shape, 'cause 2 RJs a day for 3 1/2 years has softened me up.

To all Sisters and Brothers affected by Displacement wishing PHX was an option? If PHX would be your choice to work and transfer to put it first on your selection! It is possible PHX will be added to the list of stations? This will also let the company know this station should of been on the transfer list of stations. THX GF
