nic4,

The meeting was loaded with information on grievance and early retirement issues. Very little info on the 9th because we are just waiting for the decision. The NMB negotiation process was discussed. The LOA 93 info was very informative and I think most in the room would agree.....we liked what we heard. The Retirement and Insurance Comm. and the advisors gave a very informative discussion about our investments. The old bargaining agent didn't have a clue in this area! You guys out west were mentioned when they talked about T/A 10.......other than that, I don't think you were mentioned. The Cactus 18 were mentioned early in the meeting that our lawyers were going to approach your lawyers. To try to work something out, but that the west didn't seem to be interested.

My take on the meeting is that LOA 93 looks very good. Strong language and very good witnesses on our side. Addington will play out and our side feels very comfortable about the "ripeness" issue. The early retirement program can pay as much as $110K and as little as $70K.......don't know how many will take it.

I hope you guys do get your LOA 93 pay...

Oh! And the kissing Cleary's ring thing was hilarious!!

The meeting lasted a little over 4 hours and the PHL reps did a nice job with the meeting. We all kissed Cleary's ring as he entered the room and when we left the meeting. Someone in the meeting talked about having a web board with USAPA and that got shot down...........we like coming on this board. One of your legal scholars was mentioned about his posting on the old ALPA web board that daddy is a retired federal judge and his brothers are all lawyers and having a district judge in the family too. Nice touch!

That was about it!

Well that seems so much more like a typical meeting, than the earlier posts in the thread that threatened jail time for the Cactus 18 + 100 john does, and rants on having more spending power than the West, etc..

Seems the only real new news is in regard to early buyout, and I hope there are enough takers to substantially reduce the furloughs for your side. I would also like to see an offer on the West, although I do not think many West over 60 types would be takers, right now they could go out on our LTD and get 66% of their pay til social security kicks in. Point is if they wanted out, they already have one.

The kissing the ring comment put a picture in my head I really did not need. Funny, but talk about things that make you go eeeeuuuuwwwwww. Made me taste my crew meal a second time.

Whose "We"? You and B.S.? Both of your singular votes are canceled out already. The limit of your power has been neutralized. Did you notice that your airline lost hundreds of millions of dollars this year? Probably not. I'm sure you've grown so accustom to failure that it hardly even registers anymore but it's true. What money are they going to pay you? They don't have any...they do for themselves of course but not for thousands of pilots.

You are not "working" with any west pilot and you know the west will never give up...why should they. They hold 98% of the cards. Scream all you want...nobody cares, but go right ahead.
Have you not figured out how the numbers are played in this business, losses, yet the gravy train rolls on? GE Capital, Republic, Wisconsin, and lets' not forget our stellar management. All picking the low hanging fruit. This thing will not give up the ghost. How else can these guys continue to suck bonuses out, all the while they manage to keep you scared? We have seen it for years. That is why nobody runs scared anymore when they say BOO. How can you cry for help when you have sucked more cash out than any other airline CEO?

Perhaps you have some factual data from a reliable source to backup this bold assertion that the CEO of US Airways has received more cash than any other airline CEO in history? Come to think of it, I don't recall Doug crying for help so maybe you can provide the circumstances behind that assertion as well?

What's that tune you're whistlin' past the graveyard?

Watching the east is like watching that old show on MTV, "Jackaz", but with supposedly level headed professionals instead of impetuous teens.

Well, they did say from the beginning they were forming a historic new union. The history is well on it's way to looking entirely different from what they had in mind though. Pathetic.

What are YOU guys drinking at your little pep rally?????

So much for the 9th ruling in late January.

I'm sure both sides will be able to read victory into this delay, and we're about to hear why.
Not sure why anyone would think it is a victory for either side. Nothing has happened.

Darn it busdriver, you broke the silence! We had a very peaceful 24 hours of serenity until you came along!

Why not stir the pot.

I've been reading alot of good things about Allegiant and their strong balance sheet. I highly suggest all US Airways pilots East and West who have the opportunity to leave this struggling, dying carrier on a LOA and fly for them, do so in the anticipation that if we merge with them in 2 or 3 or 4 years, you can jump your current seniority by 1000 places.

Black Swan,

You never answered my question. If this goes badly for USAPA, will you take the BPR to task for pushing it? I'll make you a deal, if it goes well I will write them a letter of thanks. The problem is, I can't see any "well". What is the up side to this? IMHO the suit was taken for a couple of reasons: 1) To stop the phone calls, mailings and emails 2) To show the west pilots who was boss. 3) To spend the west's money on this so there would be less money to sue for a DFR they knew was coming.
The problem I see with that plan is that they only know a few of the people that were doing the phone calls and some could have been east pilots. I believe the west pilots will spend every last dime they have to fight for what they think is right. So USAPA has spent thousands and thousands of our dollars and put a tremendous strain on 20+ pilots and their families lives for no good purpose. What can possibly be the upside?

I hear they are looking to aquire 23 more aircraft, in a very short timeframe. That is more than double their fleet. So I would suggest, rather than trying to get hired there in the hopes of a future merge with LCC and the possibility of losing relative seniority like the West did, if you were hired there right now, you would make captain by the end of their delivery schedule, thereby not having to try and take advancement at the expense of your fellow LCC pilots.

That's the hard call. What does a captain make flying their MD80's? Is it worth taking a paycut to go to a young airline for a better schedule now and potential earnings growth or stay and hope to hold your captain or widebody seat again through attrition despite what uncertainties lie ahead for this airline and those who choose to stay?
