US Pilots Labor Discussion

Very bold talk from you Breeze.

Let me get this straight. You desire to force seperate ops, in the hopes that you can capture 100% of east attrition, so that you can requalify into the industry's lowest paid captain position, after a 30 year career, and you are disrepecting the West position?

Well, the simple answere is, the West will keep our higher paying, better contract, "pathetic careers".

Yep, you got it straight. We will wait for the courts and LOA93, so quit trying to sell us a load of horse ####.

My guess would be this weekend or early next week for LOA 93. I do believe both parties have an executive summary and I do believe USAPA is trying to get an executive session set up with Kasher. Interesting to see if he allows for one. But it won't be long now.

LOA 93 Decision?

The following information is being discussed on the CactusPilot Message Board:

"So it seems that they received the draft decision. Following protocol, the Arbitration Panel may not discuss the contents of the draft until the parties have had an opportunity to request an executive session. As to be expected, the COMPANY is leaking the news. Like I said before, there was no way that they were going to get a decision and be able to sit on it. My guess is that Tracy is desperately trying to get an executive session and the company is actively opposing one. Kasher is no dummy and probably won't grant one. I expect it to be public by this weekend / next week at the latest."

"BTW...I heard about the executive report on LOA 93 today. Seems the lawyers are very happy on the 9th floor."

Yes, I'm sure anything that is detrimental to the East pilot group is a real big hit in Tempe.

BTW; thanks to the West pilot that brought up the ACARS problems and the company's refusal to deal with them at the PHX Crew News this month. There are issues that are common to us all and we need to focus on them at every opportunity.

Reminds me of the stories about PI putting in ACARS, except in reverse. According to the story, the PI powers that be (mainly Jack Tadlock) thought that some portion of the pilots were padding the block time for financial gain, so they put in ACARS. Block times increased - the pilots had actually been cheating themselves on block time. Kellerher has always been right. A contented employee group is good for the company's bottom line.

I was somewhat troubled by the answere given, that the cargo door opening had to do with extended ground delay.

You board the pax, you close the door, you push, then two hours later somebody opens a cargo door and resets the push time, but that does not reset the passengers watches when they demand to be let off the airplane an hour later.

I think the way to handle this if it ever happens to me will be to have the jetbridge come back to the airplane and open the pax door, make the onboard delay announcement advising any pax if they want off they can do it, then close up again once that is taken care of, and restart the clock. If we are trying to restart the onboard delay clock, we have to offer the deplaning option. Can't do that thru a cargo door.

What about the two hours of block time you just cheated yourself out of? If you are a Captain, that ran you about $300. The passenger issue is a problem to itself. I was speaking strickly about how it affects our paychecks and the company's unwillingness to deal with the problem. I've been told that all ACARS pay disputes are handled out of Tempe now...and not always successfully.

Nice move, typical of you just like the UAL deal. All in with the chips. Then you look real good or real bad. But it makes you feel important.

How about you call the grievance chair and ask why she has ignored the ACARS on the west for 3 years? Oh that's right it was a gain for the east and a lose for the west. Nothing to worry about here.

I did not cheat myself out of the 2 hours, I did not open the door.

I try to recoupe the 2 hours with timekeeping and payroll, and if unsuccessful, call the CP.

I understood your point, I was commenting on the excuse given at the crew news. The penalty for violating the onboard delay rules is like $10,000/pax or $1.5 million for a fully loaded 320. Not something we should be trying to trick screw with the cargo doors and ACARS logic.

You got that right with Team Tempe. Even if they get a win on LOA 93. There is no way the East group rolls and takes the Nic. We have seen the way this group operates. Any contract deal will take years. I would imagine Parker would hammer the West guys first chance he gets. All in the name of corporate prosperity. The company would then keep the contract away as long as possible. The acceptance of the NICOLAU from the East ensures no smooth forword contract movement.
Both sides would be held at the lowest and next lowest pay for as long as Parker could do it. The only upside is for Parker. The West pilots can high five all they want. They are locked in the best situation any airline CEO could imagine. Seeing how the West sided with the company in the supposed slowdown, there is no expectation the two sides could ever get together. There is no win for either pilot group. Either side.
