US Pilots Labor Discussion

It looks like the Compass Correction guys are rallying around Gary Hummel to be their candidate to oust Mike Cleary. Here's a key comment, "You are receiving this email because your email address appeared in a data base that was used by USAPA volunteers prior to NMB certification."

It looks like the Compass Correction guys want to return to April 18, 2008.

This is NOT from the Compass Correction.

USAPA Legal Update

We have learned that some pilots may have received an email from angrypilots@gmail.com that urges pilots to delay arrivals, slow taxi, and take other actions that violate the injunction issued by the United States District Court. The message was not authorized by USAPA and USAPA completely disavows this and any similar message. Pilots are reminded that the injunction remains in effect and continues to prohibit each pilot from engaging in any slowdown, strike, work stoppage, sick-out, work to rule campaign, or any other concerted refusal to perform normal pilot operations in violation of the RLA. The injunction also prohibits any pilot from urging any other pilot to engage in any of these prohibited activities. We further remind each pilot that he or she is individually bound by the injunction and subject to contempt proceedings for any violation. The injunction does not diminish or interfere with the duty of a pilot in command to insure the safety of his or her passengers and equipment, but safety concerns may not be used as an excuse to engage in any slowdown or other concerted refusal to perform normal pilot operations.
How long until...

"Hello, Google? This is Lyle Hogg over here at USAirways. We got us a warrant from a judge for the IP address of angypilots. Oh, that was quick. Thanks."

“Unfortunately, there is no middle ground being offered by our opposition on any front, so there is simply no question of which side of the battles to be on. We will neither cease nor buckle and our adversaries should clearly understand that our commitment to our collective futures will endure regardless of what is thrown at us.”

USAPA President Mike Cleary 12/19/2011

TheEye is once again shaking our head in bewilderment wondering exactly who ‘our’ adversaries might me in Mr. Cleary’s delusional world? Could he be referring to the west pilot class, US Airways management, another union?

The rapidly dwindling mass of the Cleary regime has declared war on all enemies, both foreign and domestic. Resignation letters continue to collect on the Woodlawn doorstep as our ever despondent and irrational officer corps wrestles amongst themselves for control of the agenda. The march towards total and unconditional victory has been declared despite the ever dwindling fuel and ammunition supply. Total chaos and complete implosion are likely at any moment.

Meanwhile, those of us living in the real world are struggling to provide Christmas cheer for our friends and families. We naively believed that our new union would take advantage of the recovering industry and provide much needed relief to our financial houses. Instead, we have our independent USAPA - A dysfunctional embarrassment incapable of proving us with the most basic of services. The promise of a date-of-hire contract that protects our attrition has been replaced by an eternal sentence of LOA 93.

No amount of bravado printed on a USAPA letterhead can change the fact that our union has failed to bring one benefit to our pilot group. We’ve squandered millions of dollars on legal fees trying to sue our way to success. The very law firm with whom we placed our endearing trust has been ousted, replaced by an outfit with double the rates and none of the charisma Lee brought to the courthouse.

Our lives at work have degenerated into hours of fantastical conversations focused on a phantom merger and the liquidation of the west operation. Even our President alluded to our new fantasy by suggesting the west would be exposed in this hypothetical merger but the east would be protected. Our new hires have also been foolishly convinced that they would be better off supporting the war effort with grandiose promises of rapid advancement and west marginalization.

TheEye is here to ring the sobering bell of reality. The reality already told to our waring leadership by our new legal team. The reality that the seniority fight is coming to a rapid close and we would be far better off embracing our west colleagues than promoting their extinction. With the departure of the only lawyer confident of our plan, we need to reevaluate our position going forward. The 1700 west pilots will have virtually no effect on our careers if we unify with them now before the next transaction.

On the other hand, should the 1700 west pilots unite with a much larger majority, our situation could become even more dire. Contrary to popular lore, our COC language is not air tight and will not overcome Judge Silver’s sphere of influence or the negotiating leverage of a larger pilot group.

We can guarantee one thing -

If we maintain our current course, we will be hoisted with our own petard.

And that one little thing blew it for you, right?

And what about Tracey's warning that this was a loser to start with?

And what about the fact that USAPA brought in ZERO neg notes to support their arguments? Maybe that was a big part of the loss. Don't you think?

I totally agree this wasn't what caused the arbitration loss. Just hate it when CM always throws Brookman out there trying to say something he didn't.

Union Brothers and Sisters

"Can you spare a dime?"

It has been almost 6 months since the terminations of 2 East First Officers for not completing their Distance Learning on time.  There’s no question that this Holiday Season for these pilots and their families is going to be trying.
We are a labor union, and one of the core values of a union is to look after our own members. These pilots, who were caught up in a management/labor feud, need your help. It has been reported that over 100 pilots failed to complete their distance learning on time – yet only these 2 line pilots received termination for this relatively minor offense.

In the spirit of unionism, and the Holiday Season, we are asking our fellow pilots and union members to join us in helping our fellow 2 pilots and their families.

Donations through Pay Pal or with checks would be greatly appreciated.

After logging into your PayPal account, click on the "send money" tab at the top of the page, enter the e-mail addresses below in the e-mail field then click on the "personal" tab in the dialog box and check the "gift" radio button. Please e-mail us here at the compasscorrection@gmail.com if you have any questions.

I don't know who these guys are, but if they wish to be taken seriously they can not remain anonymous. If this is a serious attempt at change (and not a farce), give us your committee names.

There is only one place that pilots from US Airways can go to prepare for the reformation of USAPA: www.reformusapa.com We are open and honest. We tell you who is involved.

Please join us there, and read all of the materials. Educate yourself, and participate. If you are not a Member in Good Standing, please do so now. Your vote and participation is necessary.

Sorry union brothers and sisters.

While I sympathize with the plight of these two pilots, this time of year brings many demands of donations to worthy causes. Seems my charitable contributions ability for the year has already been exhausted to support the cause of unionism in a much more meaningful way.

In other words, I already gave to AOL. Oh, and just for fun, I bought a nifty red holiday tie!!

Gee Pi, all that made up stuff seems to be true.

Imagine that.

No, the stuff I'm talking about, you were wrong. Multiple, consecutive, profitable quarters for AWA prior to the merger is just one that comes to mind.

As far as Kubic's letter, it is just what I said. That we were not unsafe, but negative safety trends were developing. The company was wrong to not participate in a safety survey, even if they did it themselves. I still believe that. Thing is, it appears that indeed a group decided to hijack the safety committee to do a foolish job action. What Kubic doesn't cover is why he wasn't more vocal when it was happening. I wasn't happy about that. I think the injunction has accelerated the trends.

So as the wheels come off this thing the question is where do we go from here? You have stated and your new avatar shows your support for a complete failure of USAPA. Many on the east agree with you. After that, what then? Then we have the reform USAPA(for west gains), ALPA loyalists, hardliners.

A few weeks ago, after the LOA 93 loss and the "it's all over" drum was being whacked, I asked what the plan was. I got no answer. I guess it's a secret.
