AFA labor discussion (Work related)

"The MEC presented the East MEC President a proposal that in effect would be a “reverse” Transition proposal. Just like the original Transition Agreement, the “reverse” proposal would offer the opportunity for a West Flight Attendant to transfer to an East base. The Flight Attendant would go to the bottom of the seniority list, while maintaining their longevity. No West Flight Attendant will bump an East Flight Attendant on the base seniority list."

So, for a junior FA that wanted to be EAST this would be a good deal for them. What about a more senior FA who wants to come EAST and has been waiting for the full intergration, are they expected to take a pay cut and go to the bottom of the list? How will they feel if say PHL/CLT/DCA is closed for years, but a junior person was able to get in under this type of agreement.

For me this is one of those things that sounds good on paper, but that in the long run is just going to cause issues.

Why aren't they offering it for the East to go West??? Its a 2-way street 😛h34r:

No dog in this fight but why offer DOUG any type of relief? I understand charity starts at home and protecting turf but this is a simple case of enablement! Your having WEST contracted FLT ATT work in EAST bases at 25% less. Think long and hard if a good joint CBA is what you want a bandaid won't fix a broken arm, SK has already stated 3 to 4% yield out west 25% to 30% EAST flying by WEST crews land of diminishing return. FUEL headed up heavy attrition and expansion EAST. If you want a REAL CBA make him pay for it . MM! Remember they compensate themselves heavily for the sacrifices we make!

Why should this cause issues? The east furloughs were offered spots in PHX after the merger and all were offered a spot before hiring commenced in PHX after the merger. There are no spots open in PHX right now for any east folks to come west however; since there are spots open back east it is only fair for west to come east before new hires considiering an east new hire will potentially make $1.00 more per hour than someone who has been with the company for 4 years. This will have no effect on anyone back east as the west will come in as new hires and doesn't make one bit of difference considering the east hasn't hired since 2001. So I ask you... what issues will this cause? We all do the same job, wear the same uniform, and work on the same planes. We just happen to have two different contracts for the time being. There are some west people that orginally resided on the east coast that went to PHX as a new hire hoping to eventually transfer to an east base and its just taken longer than expected. Nobody complained when east furloughs were offered a recall to PHX so this by far should be an opportunity for east folks to gain a little seniority and west folks to gain a little $$.

Thanx for justifying my point, we all do the SAME JOB, an EAST NEW hire makes roughly $ 4,000 per year more than a WEST F/A , We just happen to have 2 contracts at the same time? WHY ? EAST will gain with NEW HIRES anyway, a joint CBA your only answer, don't fix MNGMNTS problems for them ! MM!

If it is just for the furloughed FAs then it wouldn not be a problem. If it is for any FA, IMO I do not think it offers equal opportunity for all FAs that want to say go EAST to WEST, as most of the EAST FAs that would wish to go to PHX could not and/or would not be able take a drastic cut to seniority/pay while awaiting full intergration. It just does not seem to be an equal opportunity to all FAs.

Better solution IMO is for the company and the union to get out of their pissing match and create an temporary compromise starting pay. They have side lettered the heck out of the current contract they can side letter the starting pay as well. If they want us to start acting like one company perhaps it is time they start acting like it.

Just my opinion. /shrug

"And now for something completly different"

It appears that the CLT AFA presidential domicile election will be re-run. A candidate filed an election protest with AFA which denied the protest and then the candidate filed with the US Department of Labor. The US DOL OLMS division investigator had determined that there were enough irregularities to warrant a re-run.

This does not happen often especially when AFA National is supposed to oversee local elections in an even handed and impartial manner. It looks like they have egg on their faces.

Watch for offical announcement of the CLT Domicile President election re-run. This election will be directly supervised and conducted by the Department of Labor.

If this is true, the spinmasters are working overtime as we speak! Read my lips, vote the old dogs out and vote "No!" on the contract.

Oh this is true! And it is refreshing to hear that DOJ's intervention assisted these CLT folks. Their (more than one) complaints fell on deaf ears at AFA international. Too bad it is not a re-run for all positions, it is only for President's position.

The whole AFA union at USAirways casts more G'damn shade than a willow tree. 🙄
Funny yet TRUE. And they wonder why Very FEW give them much Credibility. Look what has happened at Delta...........even the former NWA associates wanted to dump AFA. AFA has a LOT of Issues, another bloated Union that is Top Heavy and really doesn't serve its Members in its Stated Mission. (Just another example of a BROKEN System.)

Isn't this the 3rd time Delta has said NO to AFA?
Hello?
