AFA labor discussion (Work related)

Most likely it can be viewed that way, as US pays for the luggage and replaces it, so it is company property. Allowed to have name tag or crew tag, but political statements are probably a no no......I'm sure they can start nit picking at alot of uniform standards stufff and keep AFA busy for awhile...

OK, I forgot that the bags are company property. You're probably right then.

What's up with the roll-a-boards the pilots bring onto the flight deck. I've seen every kind of sticker and sentiment pasted on those. Some of them I think are as old as the pilot that wheels them, so I'm guessing the pilots own them?

The company paid for my rollaboard per the contract but when my company issued tote fell apart 3 months after I got it, they were too cheap to replace it so I bought one. The company doesn't own my tote nor my cooler that I am allowed to carry. Just move all of your tags to the luggage you purchased. Don't they have better things to do like steal from their employees instead of monitoring my luggage ??

One would hope so. I got the text and first thing that came to mind is "Jerry Glass is at it again"

Ya, pilots own their bags.....some are kinda old.... Company doesn't pay for them.

On second thought, F/A's are payroll deducted for uniforms and such, are the rollerboards included in that cost that's deducted? Or was your initial uniform purchase paid for within X amount of dollars?

Yes, the cost of the initial purchase included our luggage. They now replace them free of charge. I can't remember what the cost was.

Got a txt regarding a flight attendant being on their way to the hospital.

CLT-CDG 281 due to air quality issues.

Has anyone ever wonder why these so called air quality incidents happen only to crew members? I just wonder when the contracts are finally signed how much of an issue this will truly be? Ive flown for 25 years and never had an issue. Doesnt mean that there are isolated cases however this is all contract related in my humble opinion..... Lets just do our job... act like adults and quit blaming every single CEO that this airline has ever had for our problems. Have we ever looked inward at ourselves? At any rate hopefully if there were any "health" issues with the above mentioned they will be fine and recover. My best to them!

You can't be serious. You truly believe that these incidences are all a contract issue? While it is remotely possible to have copycats that may want some attention, my understanding is there are quite a few of these issues. We talked about one where most the entire crew is still off from work including both pilots and flight attendants. As pointed out some have sickened passengers as well. This just seems like a pretty dramatic and difficult to manipulate feet to not have some level of legitimacy. This also is not exclusive to US Airways either. I am sure that the company wants the crew to get checked out throughly no matter how small the issue may seem at the time. I think rather than trying to convince a bunch of forum members that it is not happening the company would actually investigate the issue. Perhaps bring in outside consultants from the plane manufacturers and other sources not related to US management. I would assume that these events have to be reported on some sort of official level to the FAA or other agency. Is there not maintenance records recorded when these events take place? This is quite timely because your CEO just devoted an entire page to how they are devoted to safety. According to him you track all of this data. Read it for yourself here: http://usairwaysmag.com/articles/safety_first/

Hope this is not just lip service!

I take a big offense to your suggestion that this is a contract issue buddy. I have been on 3 planes with toxic fumes before this became a mainstream problem. The problem with fumes is simialr to a bunch of people eating bad food at a restaurant then going their separate ways. Everyone gets home and later gets the poops or whatever and never think twice about it. When was the last time you called that restaurant back and asked for the names of all the patrons to see who all got a tummy ache? Excactly.

Ok.... the post is absolutely crazy that this person thinks its a made up issue. Perhaps he/she has been drinking Doug's Koolade, so when you get rushed to the hospital w/ brain damage in a coma state perhaps the person afflicted w/ the toxic fumes is a fantastic actor? What about the the crew member's That will never return to work.... ??? I don't think that I would want to wish that fate to my worst enemy. You my dear uneducated friend need to get educated on the issues, and not spout out here.... crew member's

I was at an airport when a flight canceled for fumes, the crew was laughing about screwing the company as they left the airport. Not saying all situations are like that, but the only one I have personal knowledge of was absolutely a made up issue.

I worked a flight that had air quality issues. We weren't laughing. Maintenance confirmed the leak and said it was fixed. Thankfully, our captain insisted on a thorough preflight, said the a/c wasn't fixed and cancelled the flight. The f/a's had nothing to do with the cancellation. I have heard that two pilots have lost medicals due to neurological issues related to air quality issues. I don't personally know if this is true, but yes, I find it scary. I don't want permanent long-term damage after bleeding for this company that doesn't care about me.

Your personal knowledge is not to convincing
