heres the problem in LAS, since OEI hasnt taken place yet and the majority of the flts are west flts west employees will be cut however it may be intereseting when OEI comes around in Nov and some west Employees may be recalled and some east employees be laid off. Basically PT ramp with a date of somewhere around 10/04 and FT aroun 11/07 are the dates of furlough. I dont know what station your in but if their are furloughs for the west and none for the east it may be reversed come NOV.

Thanks for the info. We were wondering how they would handle this but no one has been very forthcoming. We can hear the axe grinding and we are wondering which of us turkeys will be Thanksgiving dinner.

I think this may also be a question for P. Rez and the seniority committee what happens after OEI if west are laid off and there are junior east employees working come NOV?

NevadaHP,

Have the west and east employees been notified already on who will be furloughed? Has the company said more senior west employees will be furloughed over east employees, or is this speculation?

If your answers are yes to the above questions and the seniority of both the east and west employees is not combined then you will have to refer to Article 9 B. 2. (a)(1). This states that you will be able to first bid full-time or part-time positions open across the system and if not enough lines available displace the most junior person in the system.

Before you write me hate mail, I don't agree with this process. However, I am reading the contract as written and believe that if what you are saying about the furloughs in LAS to be true and not rumor and seniority has not been integrated at time of furlough, more senior employees in LAS could be SOL.

P. Rez

my question is, more senior west PT agents will be furloughed come sept, all the way back to 10/04. Now there are east PT employees who will still be online due to their flight activiy. What happens come NOV. will the west furloughed agents be able to bump the junior east agents once OEI has commenced?

NevadaHP,

I guess you are saying yes to my questions? I refer you back to my post. The seniority integration committee is not here to make decisions on contractual provisions on how to furlough in LAS. I think your west employees in LAS are SOL.

The contract is specific on furloughs, they will be able to bid open lines in the system. If there are insufficient lines then they can displace the most junior person in the system. I am not as well read on the IAM contract but believe this to be true.

Has the Union leadership in LAS asked these questions of management and if so what was their answer?

P. Rez

I understand that but if they choose not to take an open position/bump and rather take furlough could they than in NOV bump a junior employee in LAS? Mgmt knows nothing about everything in LAS.

Company - IAM Tentative Agreement

Attachment C

IAM FLEET SENIORITY INTEGRATION PROCEDURE

1. The seniority lists of America West Fleet Service Employees and US Airways Fleet Service
Employees will be integrated in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with Section 3 of the
Allegheny-Mohawk Labor Protective Provisions.
2. The Company and the Union agree on an integrated seniority list provided it results in no
"system flush" whereby an active Fleet Service Employee may displace any other active Fleet
Service Employee from the latter’s position; and furloughed Fleet Service Employees may not
bump/displace active Fleet Service Employees
; and does not contain conditions and restrictions
that materially increase costs associated with training or company paid moves.

This might be your answer,

Sorry

rat tales,

Correct, I was just looking at the IAM contract and not the language from the TA. Either way, LAS is SOL.

P. Rez

yea thats the answer boy, that sucks for all those employees who trained at the same time as the new easties and some were picked to go east and some to go west. Not to mention the 3yr employee currently working who will be laid off in sept, two months shy of OEI.

nevada HP,
my advice for any soon to be displaced employee out of las is. STAY ON THE PAYROLL,

it seems once you take a furlough and then decide to come back it is really hard. As long as you

stay on the payroll and try and get back to your home base you have a better shot. Also remember

that someone can't put down another city as there recall station . Unless there original station (LAS)

is closed. So Las will always be there recall city. Been down this road 1 to many times and it sucks.

again Language and Scope are VERY IMPORTANT things to have in CONTRACTS not just wage bait.

WOW

Been down this road 4 times. I am lucky to work in a station where there are only West employees. The difference between now and then is that you basically still have 2 different companies till OEI. Logically you have to look at it as this:

Since their are 2 diffeent kinds of employees, there are two different layoff situations, so each has its' own manpower needs.

After OEI the recall language kicks in for all. Unfortunately for the more senior west you are a product of furlough and that can't be changed till recall but don't forget you have to take P/T before furlough or you won't be called back to any P/T opening in the station.

Good luck and yes " O " stay on the payroll if you can........................

9. Article 9 (Reduction in Force) Will apply to West Employees on the Transition Date.
Effective on Transition date amend CBA as follows:

• Paragraph B.2.e modify such that Employee will also be prohibited from submitting
system transfers for a period of twelve (12) months to part-time positions in their location
if they had sufficient seniority to displace to part-time.
• Paragraph C.4 modify such that full-time Employees have part-time recall only if they did
not have sufficient seniority to displace to part-time
.
