All of your 2016 income from AA will be taxed at the same rate, computed next winter when you complete your 1040 and figure out if you owe more or have a refund due.

This payment will be "supplemental wages" and subject to withholding at a 25% withholding rate (or higher, if your income is so high as to mandate a higher withholding rate).
 
Unless you owe a loan shark a lot of money, the amount of withholding on this "found money" is immaterial.

Whomever told you that was ignorant; your 2016 wage income will be taxed at whatever tax bracket you fall in - the breakdown between lump sum and regular wage won't matter. And the withholding will likely be 25%.

No, supplemental pay will require withholding at 25%. Publication 15 has all the details:

If the IRS did not require sufficient withholding from employee paychecks, some of those employees wouldn't have the money by the following April 15; probably better to require extra withholding to prevent your fellow citizens from stiffing the government of their fair share.

Now you and I are in full agreement again.

The average baggage handler in the US makes $24,000 per year
The average High School graduate makes $24,000 per year
The average American worker (All educations) makes $42,000 per year.

And we're going to be making now $63,000 per year. (No extra hours FT)

Better hope the $15 an hour min wage does not become the standard across the country.  Your $30 an hour will not go as far as is does now as the cost of goods/service will rise along with it.

Not fair ATD there's more to it just throwing bags heck just think of all your work we took over the last  few years. Your work that wasn't farmed out to Mexico I mean
 
I think a lot of mechanics are over paid also. But if the company is willing to pay. I am sure they know what they are doing. just like all the companies that had pensions and let them go due to their cost.
 
I disagree. I dont think any of us are being overpaid. We are all underpaid. Especially when compared to pay and bonuses of executives.

Additionally, its ridiculous to draw the conclusion that pensions are gone because of mechanic pay.

Finally, in all areas of careers there are those that are more skilled and have better ethics the others.

To make the suggestion that one should be paid more then another based on ability suggest that maybe management is a career path.

I'm sure ATD is the only "underpaid' person around. A jackass like that never is satisfied and only criticizes others.
If I am overpaid and you are underpaid, I take great pride in knowing I'm the cause of it. And I'm speaking only of YOU!

You better hurry up and get all the education that is required for upper management, because most likely your over 50 and don't have a lot of time left.

People like you need to make up their minds. On the one hand you say that the Market determines our rates of pay and the Unions have little say so in that. And now you're saying that it's the Unions fault that I'm "overpaid" You seem to be wanting to have your cake and eat it too?

Now I can start posting all the BLS stats that say what you should be paid as well but it's entirely too redundant now.

I think I'll fly with the Market ideology and say that this had nothing to do with the Unions. The Market has decided (Bless their hearts) that I deserve $38,000 per year over the average working for this particular Full Service International carrier.

Who is little old me to argue with Wall Street?

(And I think the Market may even give us just a wee bit more in the next few months?)
