What's new

AFA labor discussion (Work related)

I don't think anyone is lining up for my job when they really find out what it entails. That's why it's a revolving door at the commuter airlines. They quit inside of 6 months.

I read an article from the Cincinnati Enquirer about Delta adding 1000 flight attendants. Of the 1000 to be added 600 will be new hires. Delta received 85,000 applications. You still think noone will be lining up for your job if you should elect to leave?

Again our economy is still week. Unemployment is still around the 10% range. When the economy is week the company unfortuanely has the advantage in negotiations.

You all have to make a lot of choices in the near future and I do not envy any of you haiving to go through this. But just ask yourselves this. Is something better than nothing? There is not much out there to go into even with a bachlors or masters degree.

Good luck

That is no excuse to back down or roll over. Look at the t/a that Continental f/a's reached with their management. What we are being dealt here is extremely insulting to the f/a's that have worked their rears off for TERRIBLE pay and concessionary work rules. FORGET IT, this contract will hopefully get voted down. You know what would happen in a worse case scenario? You'd wake up the next day. I'm so tired of feeling threatened and cornered to be perfectly honest. 🙄

From the ppl I know CO may be voting down the TA! they don't feel the work rules were up to standard, which they are really not.

Well it seems their negotiations went a little different than ours. I don't think they'll be accepting a concessionary contract. When they deal with UA f/a's and the new UA management I bet they get much more than what we're being offered.

Shall I look into my crystal ball and predict the winners? Hmmmmmm? 🙄

]MIKE'S MARIONETTE SHOW TO DEBUT IN THE CHARLOTTE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IN JANUARY 2011

Reviews tell us US Airways elated with the new cast. Should be a walk in the park!!!!

Does anyone comprehend what the poisonous campaign is doing? It's dividing!!! Pure and simple. And a certain bitter and hysterical FA who couldn't legitimately get elected by the membership, and her posse want to take down the negotiating team. THAT'S dividing.

What's to be gained by the lies and slander? Nothing. If you want "no concessions", we'd better be unified, support our union, and prepared to walk out (as in strike) as a group. If the reserves think they can do it all by yourselves, they're dreaming. <_<

THANK YOU>>THANK YOU!!
I Have wanted to say that for a LOOOOOOONG Time!! You hit the Nail on the Head OhReally!!
PERFECT!!

Welcome back. Positive vibes girl, positive vibes. Just remember to vote NO. Cleaning stinks. 😉

Perhaps some people might show up to the AFA meeting this week and get educated about how we're being sold down the river instead of acting like they know everything. Lord have mercy. Sychophant sychophant sychophant.

I think the only dividing and conquering going on is from folks like ohreally who claim to be supporting your union with statements like: "The reserves are making a big mistake to think that by obstructing the negotiating team's efforts, they're getting any support from us." (bold added for emphasis). That is a true scooby moment there. If it were not for those meddling reserves, I would rule the world! The only thing they want is for you to slow down and do some explaining. There are some obvious questions people want answered and you (negotiating committee) can't seem to be bothered. Instead, because you can't get people to be be extra quiet while you steam roll them you call them names. Darn those "fringe crazies" anyway!

I don't think your company really needs to do anything this time around to divide and conquer. It would appear your negotiating team is doing the job for them. All they want is some explanation to their concerns. Are there some over emotional, over vocal folks out there? Yes, and that is what happens when you thrust something on them that took five years to negotiate and you won't take five minutes to just listen to the concerns and explain why this is what they got. Again, I don't believe from what my friends are saying that it is anything personal. They just want the union leadership to communicate, listen, and explain.

F/A's need to get educated by what is REALLY being sold to us. There are f/a's that STILL have no idea as to what is changing and how the whole f/a bidding process will work from B/H all the way down to reserve. There is NOTHING printed for f/a's to read until the contract is finished. One f/a said to me today, 'Oh I heard the f/a reserve section is bad'. Really? You haven't read any of it? How about you read over the ENTIRE process of PFB and let me know how you honestly believe that is GOOD for the group. On the Local Level, education of the members should be taking place but noooooooooo. Can't have anyone available in the crew room like they do in DCA. WHY? 🙄

You are so right. Delta will be hiring.

We on the other hand might try if we can get the new hire pay up. Our's is as lousy if not worse than the commuter airlines. We have f/a's now on food stamps. What's that tell you about "this airline?"

If it were me looking to enter the airline business as a flight attendant.....US Airways would not be on my list.

That might be you. But ask someone who has been unemployed and their benefits are running out. You would be surprised who would be more than happy to take a job at US Airways. And the company knows that also.

If this contrtact that is being negotiated passes and a large group of flight attendants decide to leave the company, how happy do you think the company will be? They win. they get the contract they want and they get to hire a bunch of new flight attendants at a lower rate of pay than the ones that left which helps the comapnies financials.

I just love those "you're lucky to have a job" advisers.

US f/as are entirely and completely aware of our lack of value vis a vis the company and US as employees.

That is why I have to explain to people why, no I do not advise buying a ticket on US and that they should make other choices if they want decent service and to be treated well, because I can't with any certainty say that is a given as US. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. You're going to spend about the same money, just buy a ticket elsewhere.

"But I can save $5!" Yup. You're why I have to work understaffed and without tools, because US doesn't care that treating its employees poorly does end up affecting service because you buy on ticket price and now I get to hear about your lousy flight after you take it against my advice. Sigh.

Yes, unemployment is at 10% and yes there are people who would take my job in a heartbeat. It doesn't change the fact that a lousy employer is a lousy employer and nothing to be proud of or desire.

It doesn't change that US is now a small carrier among two behemoths, largely due to trashing its reputation, mishandling labor contracts and seniority lists and basically being a "how to not merge" manual for the rest of the world.

So it may be on an unemployed person's wish list, but trust me, it isn't first on that list.

No you trust me. When a person is unmeployed for six months to a year or more they do not have a wish list, they just want a job.
