What's new

AFA labor discussion (Work related)

Unlike other VF's those coming back from VFLR should have received new employee numbers to reflect this as they are now considered new hires. I don't care if you flew for 25 years and are now a "re-tread" as one women called herself in the latest screw news session. They are considered NEW and should have a NEW number to reflect it. Is anyone seriously surprised by this? Oh and what is the deal with some of those from the VFLR? They wanted to give the money back, have their seniority adjusted for travel, etc. You signed a damn agreement, took a 10k payment and hit the trail running. The recession tanked, some realized they made a mistake, etc but NOW all of the sudden want changes? They want to unsign their name from the very agreement they signed? I seldom agree with what the company does but Hector told the guy in the latest CLT screw news that they had three chances to say NO. It was pretty cut and dry. 🙄
These "Retreads" as they shall be referred henceforth need To Remember W-H-E-R-E they are in the CURRENT Seniority Lineup. They Have Zero/Zilch/Nada/No Seniority at the Present Time. To this day I don't have a damn clue WHY they were even offered a Provision in Their Buyout to even opt to Come Back. With the Present day Reserve System I don't think more than half of Them will last the 'probationary period' as a New Hire. They have A LOT to Learn and I hope they know what they are REALLY getting themselves Involved with.

They should have been assigned new numbers, end of story for that. I have a feeling someday its gonna bite us in the butt.

The guy asking for his seniority back in the Crew News Session was too funny.

BTW (not to go too OT, but) did anyone watch both CLT and PHX and notice the distinct differences in attitude?

As I understand it, they do not have to go through the probationary period as a new hire. That's the only right they retained.

I believe the VFLR was worded as a "furlough" so they could be eligible for unemployment benefits. Otherwise, it would have been a resignation, and unemployment would not have been available to them.

In any event, welcome back guys. Nobody knows what life changes may have taken place in the last few years, and some had to return. Good to have you.

Listen, most will be honest. It's the very few that will try some silly crap. I will first ask for their SIDS card. They can not produce it before position selection- a call goes in via me to crew scheduling. Right in front of them. I will ask them one last time, should I continue down this road or what is your adjusted seniority? That will be RARE guys. That said, they should have gotten new hire employee #'s.

It doesn't matter what their employee number says. When traveling, the date used is your company hire date. All the VFLR returnees have a new company hire date 1/9/11. They use the company hire date because some people come from different departments before becoming f/as. Their company hire date never changes, just their position hire date. This is where the SID cards come in handy....for jumpseating only. Someone might have been hired in 1999 as a gate agent, but became a f/a in 2001.The 1999 company hire date would be the travel date, but the SID card reflects F/A seniority date. However, again, these people all have NEW company hire dates. Their employee ID could be 00001, but at the bottom of the list. Hope this helps!

My point of the 'probationary period' was in reference to the notion that many will give it a try but probably will not last the equivalent of a New Hire Probationary Period which I believe is 6/7 months. (Keep in mind some of these people may have been a Reserve for a very brief period YEARS Ago and the current Reserve System is comparable to a Stint at a Russian Gulag. The transition will NOT be pleasant or memorable.) As Many current Reserves will tell You when You complain, "Welcome To Our World"!

We all were hoping, however, the active RSV lists shows their original employee #. So I printed the RSV list for when they became active (01/16)

Ultimately, what WILL happen is maybe one or two may try to use their old number to their advantage (ie, taking A Position or J/S though we are "supposed" to show J/S cards, not many GAs ask for it)

Just printed it too. Wow, alot of big numbers starting over. This will be a tough stint for most.
Just this January, reserve hit 20+ yrs in Philly, correct?

For all the "retreads" reading this.....WELCOME BACK! Glad to have you back online.

I was just refering to position selection for working. But yes, we are all on the same page.

Curious Question here. We all received a CBS about organizational changes. One was an Inflight Supervisor coming from PHL to CLT. This person "began their airline career" at Jetblue in 2002. Same person was hired as a CSA in 2008 and was promoted to Inflight Supervisor.

Actually I have 2 ??

1. How does one become an Inflight Supervisor without being "line" qualified. In other words, is this person qualified to fly the line? If so, when did this person receive "inflight-training"? A FA must undergo initial in-flight training and to my knowledge, we haven't had that since 2001 (on the East at least)

2. If there are Supervisory positions open, how come current FAs weren't made aware of opportunities? Were they posted on Wings? I, on occasion, peruse Job Openings (because you never know) and had not seen it. Wouldn't/Shouldn't there be postings in Crew Rooms?

I'm all for "promotional opportunities" and congrats to these people! However, there may be some around that would have like to have the chance to at least apply and be considered.

Since this is a "work-related" thread, I thought this would be the best place to post.

Hey HP~

Wow, did I get a lot of private messages on me having (in your words) a defeatest attitude. Here's one of those times I say, I'm sorry for saying what I did. Truth be told, it more has to do with not being willing to engage in the "mudd for mudd" slinging (which has begun, based on the emails I have seen floating around).

Anyway, thank goodness you're not a fan....I would rather have members get involved, disagree with me, come up with fresh ideas and work together.

Deborah

Deborah I personally believe that it has taken a lot of guts for you to use your real name on this site especiall when I know that there are other members of our JNC and current union officers who are on this site and use anonymous names. Never take a defeated attitude. Even though we all do not agree with what has been taking place with our contract negotations you responding to f/a's says alot for your character.

Has everyone received their ballots for the Council #89 LEC Pres re-run?

Don't forget to vote. 🙂

Got mine and voted!!!
The number that is out there for f/a to call if they have not received their ballots is 704-849-8653.

The Inflight Supervisor postion does not require one to be trained to fly the line at the present time so anyone can apply.

As for the open position, it was posted on wings under Careers.

Astro....
I personally like the soup lady's soup. So here's to wishing for what the rest of us hope for. Go team Cathy!!!!! 😀

I agree with you. They should have been assigned new numbers. Will be interesting to see how many will actually start a trip and will mislead the other f/a's to thinking that they are more senior than they actually are.
