With AA eliminating food service on the majority of it''s flights, does AA really need to spend the money having Skychefs or whoever meet every flight just to dump the trash and add more soda/beverages. Can''t fleet service dump the galley trash, and have Skychefs get the plane stocked on the first morning kick-off flight with enough beverages to last a full day. Is something like this feasible??

Marriott, Dobbs House, Chef's Orchid to name a few have pulled out of this very competitive business. Local health regulations can also be a factor as some states require to transports foods, special trucks (soda may considered food in some areas, like ketchup was considered food under the Bush administration) That leaves Sky Chefs LSG, the king, and when you're king you dictate, it's all or nothing, so SC does it all. The alternative would be for AMR to go back into the catering business, not likely.

Depends on the number of flights and where the plane is going. Many flights still get catered a meal in First. You cant have wet ice last all day on a room temp aiplane, so you will need that restocked through out the day. My guess is the weight fo flying 2 or 3 sets of beverage carts at 260 pounds each, all over the US would waste more in fuel than it could save in catering.
