Congrats' to the ''New Direction'' and I hope you live
up to the name. Please remember your representing
the group not the self interests. I hope to re-elect
you for years. Please don't lose sight of OUR GOALS
and grow accustom to the $$$ like so many before you.
ie......PF, BC, and RC. Were here for you and you need
to be there for us. You are OUR VOICE not just your own.

Thanks and again Congrats' !!

This lay-off/OEI situation appears to be a major win-win for US and the IAM.

1) The IAM and the east will be able to dump many west agents.

2) US will save money by dumping senior west agents and keeping junior east agents.

Gotta admit that they are pretty darn smart. Evil, yet smart.

Q: How does one soon to be furloughed, "stay on the payroll?" It does not seem possible if the T.A. prevents displacing junior agents in the system. I guess multiple factors come into play... if there is an East & West operation, if the station is downsizing or outright closing its doors etc.
Anyway, how does one "stay on the payroll" if he/she is facing furlough????

If a person is being laid off as a full-timer but is more senior than a part-timer in that station, they can displace part-timer. Also, if there is an opening in another station, a person can take the opening.

I don't find humor in this statement. We are all in this together now. Being divisive is the last thing we should be doing. We have been through this to many times to conclude that the only way we won't be eaten is by outrunning the other guy. It's time to stand collectively.

Look, this is what WE voted on and what WE are stuck with. It's not about who wins because nobody wins. The IAM looses members and dues. The company looses Qualified Senior agents. This is the way it was written and now we live with it together and hope those getting furloughed are able to comeback soon or commute for awhile till things improve.

I've gotta agree wholeheartedly with mike33 here on both counts. The contract was voted in. It's here to stay until 2012 at the earliest, unless US closes up shop. And this East/West thing is seriously starting to make me hate some coworkers. And I do mean that literally. With the exception of pilots and inflights we are all part of the new US Airways. Once OEI happens we'll be fully integrated together as one be happily disfunctional family. Even the pilots and inflights are all one (thought different workgroups) no matter how much they want to #### and moan about each other.

Not meaning to bash anyone here, but this is how I see it. The old US Airways was a financial disaster. It had been in bankruptcy twice in three years and was on the way to it's third. America West ran a crappy airline but made money doing it. Note that none of the rank and file employees had ANY impact on any of the problems at either airline. Both sides have faults; no side is better or worse then the other. Anyone remember why Parker said we went with US instead of AW? It was because in a brand recognition survey we were equal, though the US Airways name had more international recognition. That means we suceeded equally, and failed equally. And now we're all on the one side. Even though management treats us like #### we're still turning good stats. That's a testament to YOU, my coworkers, and it shows you're kicking ASS. Come Novemeber we'll be kicking ass along side of each other instead of across the terminal from each other. We got rid of some substantial dead weight with Canale getting the boot. Let's take that as a fresh start. We ARE all family now.

I do not mean to offend anyone. I mean that. That's just how I see things and I want to move past all the East/West bickering. I'm sure I screwed up typing this somehow and someone will jump all over me for it. Sorry, that wasn't the intent. Please move on with me.

Pilots and FAs are not one work group.

East Pilots and East FAs work East Metal and work under their US CBA, West Pilots and West FAs, work West Metal and still are working under their old HP CBAs.

Why would you hate your east coworkers?

They did not make the decision to lay people off, the company did.

That's exactly what I was afraid of happening. I don't necessarily hate "East" people. In fact, here in LAS we all recognise what's going on and we're quite well together. But when people start spouting off about how ever since "X" changed from the merger and it's the bane of our existance it gets annoying, and then hateful, real quick. East isn't alone, though I think more East employees do it then West.

And note that I did specify that pilots and inflights were still differnt workgroups. Whether they like it or not, however, they all work for the some company now, and short of bankruptcy they WILL be one group at some point.

At our station, we are polite and the niceness seems forced. We have had some ugly moments.

When profit sharing came out, they gave us the silent treatment or were overtly hostile.

Former AWA team leads were removed from ops, even though they had been doing the ops function before the east guys moved in. It was determined by the station manager that only east people were qualified to work in ops.

West crews cleaned terminating flights until last April. The east guys demanded that this function be contracted out as they would refuse to clean after the merger of fleet. This was an unpleasant duty but provided job security. The contractor not only cleans the planes now but dumps lavs and fills water tanks, as well. If I hear correctly, the contractor costs more than when we did this!

Oh well. I'll be on the street soon.

Roach...put on the light and make him scatter
click on above link for letter........

Letter from Roach (living up to the name) about raising our dues
through restructuring. They had to lessen the IAM payroll by almost
100 while the working group has dropped by more than 100,000.
They need more $$$ to keep going. This will be voted on by the
delegates.
SPEAK UP !!! No More !!! No more money til you earn it.

Thanks

To everyone that cared enough to vote in the district elections, THANK YOU! As in previous posts we need to clear our minds and move on as one! More now than ever we need to stick together! Corporate US will only benefit when we are not together, we must stop division among ourselves period! We need to work together as if we were working side by side for many years. Personally I am looking forward on meeting the Westies from both airlines now ONE!

Just dig in your pockets and pay more for your dues. Stupid that you all thought anything would change!

what are you referring to? New Direction team doesn't change in till October 20. As you know the whole dues thing is a product of the INTL and being pushed by Canale and will be voted on in September. I'm pretty sure nobody on the New Direction team wants a dues increase nor will they vote for one. I know NOBODY from PHL or CLT will vote for the change that will increase dues revenue.

The masses should not be asked to give more. Many other scenerios should be played out. For one, I don't see why the union needs all this real estate. Most union meetings at this point can be done over the kitchen table.

The fundamental problem of the IAM is that it doesn't empower the members. It's not that the union has lost its arse in membership, but rather, they haven't empowered the masses within. The result of such is no ownership or participation. That is what must change and that is what the New Direction Team is attempting to do. Alot of extra participation has already manifested itself. Process is pretty basic and it has nothing to do with raising dues. Raising dues will actually choke the opportunity harvest of new organizing drives. Can you imagine an organizer telling a non-union group that they should sign this card to pay $1,000 a year????

It's really pretty simple. More empowerment leads to more participation, which leads to more ownership, which leads to more solidarity, which leads to better contracts, which leads to better organizing.
