GF What I here is that the Big three are so important has a lot to do
with the global economy. Mainly all the world wide supliers that would be
affected. I'm assuming that a breakdown in Detroit would be far more
detrimental to the global economy that a breakdown it the US airline
industry. Of coarse I could be wrong.

I heard one I idea which I thought was interesting and that was to let
the auto industry fail but supply big time unemployment benifits to
the workers including job training for a more realistic career.

IMO what detroit need to to is to decide amongst themselves what type
of vehicles to produced base on what they think is best for the US. Far
too long what they produced has been based on somesort of transient
romantic idea of what a vehicle should make someone feel like when
he drives down the street. Or in other words a heavily imaged based product.

More back to the topic. I just heard today some newsguy complaining
about the affect of absenteeism on the auto industry. He said that
20% of the cost went for that. And that in CA there was a no fault
system in place. Well fine. I don't have any problem with a no fault
system but IMO it has to be negotiated. Can anyone imaging Detroit
even mentioning a no fault system without out a serious backlash from the
IAW. In the end The IAW, if the bailout goes thru will have to make some
compromises.

I personnally will be dissapoint when this thing all shakes out. I think
we'll be stuck with a modified version which will further weaken our
position going into 2011.

Note to freedom: It looks like I was wrong about the affects we
would feel from inflation. Now there talking about deflation. Now
a fixed income is good and those measley 2% raises will mean something.
So congratulations and go get some of that $1.75 gas and take a trip.
Or maybe you should wait until it gets below $1.50. It's also time
to start piling money into that 401K. Or buy a house if you
dont already own 2 or 3.

Thanks BF

The idea of providing training for a more realistic job to furloughed GM employees is not a great as it may sound. Keep in mind that most have been doing that job for years, and most are also middle aged. Any new career that they choose will put them at the bottom of the heap in wages and benefits. Most will not be around long enough to even get close to a good living wage again in their lifetime. I know first hand what it is like interviewing for jobs that start at $10 an hour when you are middle aged, and have a family to support. You are competing with young kids that are willing to work for those wages since they still live at home. The plan may look good on paper, but in reality it will only create more of the "Working poor".

{so on and so forth }

just a quick side note ... what you said right there was actually a visible effect of deflation .. waiting to buy something in the hopes or expectation that prices will come down .. until about a week ago i didn't completely understand why deflation could be dangerous .. i do now .... our nation will burn in a fire storm of liquidations ... i know , that sounds overly dramatic , but it really is ... As for the 401K the only thing those stock certificates will be good for in 8 or 9 months is TP ...

BF,

I appreciate the kind words, but I have also been on both sides of the labor/management equation in my occupational past, so I am sympathetic to both sides in their respective positions, thus I am uncertain as to my complete, uncompromising, unequivocal support for either side. As such, I would be a less than desirable member of either management or organized labor.

So Analyzes Jester.

Jester,
that's a good move . stay on the couch and do or don't do what you do. We just ousted

sympathetic company people hiding behind the UNION label so we don't need to regress back to that

I appreciate your honesty though

Thanks, it's attitudes like that that have brought the points system, in part. You don't HAVE to work on Christmas at US Airways. Drop the day, trade it, take your vacation, plan ahead and bid for those days off. You work in an industry that does not get holidays off. Live with it, adjust to it, or got work at WalMart. They're closed most of Christmas. I think McDonalds is closed on holidays too.
I have four letters for everyone that tells you how to have every holiday off, F. M. L. A. Everyone should get it and then you cant have any points charged against you when you use it on any day. Some of you out there may think thats wrong, but this company put us in this little game of theirs so lets play.

he charlie is Peppermint Patty still trying to get in your trousers 😀

Sounds like MC and NH had a good conversation with the company today. Thanks guys for sticking up for the membership, its good to know we finally have a voice that will be heard, like Oman says regardless of how this goes, at least we know we have a group in place now that will listen to its membership and fight for whats right for us. Again thanks guys.
