Ya know, I really wish that was kept quiet until after negotiations. Say whay you will about Canale, but you've just made the Company aware of negotiating plans. Of course I am assuming that they didnt' already know. This should not have seen the light of day until after negotiations were done at the end of the month, but before the vote happened.
Necigrad
This was really no big secret. It was being discussed in the breakrooms early this morning.

So is what Canale saying/doing legitimate or not? Seems like option 2 would be the best bet that way we can have an all out war in 2009. Any TA that is in the works is going to be weak and be pushed till 2011 or so...
If these are my only 2 options I say lets take whats behind door #2 and let the New Direction Team take the up issue in 2009. The west should have been under our contract a long time ago. At least that way we will have someone in place that is willing to work for us and our best interest instead of laying down with the company. Then let the games begin.

UPDATE ON "SIDEBAR" NEGOTIATIONS FOR FLEET

Some disturbing news came my way today that I will share with you. Apparently, Boss Canale met with the company in some capacity without the negotiations team and a new plan was worked out to try to scare workers into voting Yes on a new but only slightly improved contract. Supposedly, the plan is to give the appearance that Canale will give the company what it needs [transition agreement] by circumventing the membership without a vote, if the membershp rejects the upcoming TA.
According to my info, the Parker/Canale plan will be to announce the new TA and try to manufacture the choice as either a choice to vote for the contract OR a choice to merge west in with east and then wait till 2009.

Members,

Let me tell you what my scenario is:
Think back a couple of years...you're at a class II station and the company(usair) is losing money and decides to file bankruptcy and merge with another carrier. It doesn't matter what thought process was in their minds first, it's that they thought of it, and had come to realize a plan. It starts off by cutting ur station below the minimum flts needed for a class II city. When that happens you become expendable and they lay you off in favor of a vendor. While they put their plan together ur layed off and didnt excersise the 60 day rule, so you have to wait for an opening in your station. Sometime in the future they announce a merger with another carrier and you figure you have a chance of recall. Well, what they do is not call you back because the other carrier(america west) becomes the new vendor. They go through the whole process of moving the old airlines' flights to the new merged carriers' gate but you still don't get that call to come back yet. As a matter of fact you might never get to exercise your recall because the new vendor (america west) hires off the street and there are no positions for you to come back to. Not only that, ur union negotiates to get rid of the "60 day rule ", but it only applies to those from date of signing fwd. You're screwed because by now it's been 3 years and the company has not mergerd work groups and ur recall time is running out. It not only can happen, it did happen
Enter now the rumor of another merger with this same language in it. You could be next.
If there are two things I have learned it's this:

1. More $$$ is good and pays ur bills and puts food on ur table.

BUT..................

2. Contract language keeps it that way till you decide to give it up.
So you whipper snappers that are just sitting in the breakrooms and asking only " how much money am I going to get" better wake up because you could be next. Your vote counts!

Solidarity brothers. The more we are, the stonger we are. Hub or Field Station. Don't let the $ blind you. The language in a contract is why they can't use us to their own means. The TWU language protects all east and west. If you give that up by letting the current regime cut and paste you to the east contract then the above scenario can and probably will happen to some of us all over again.....

The new TA must have the TWU no outsourcing language. I firmly believe that if US were to merge, they would have a fast track type of merger only for the fact that they have been thru this one. They could cut in half the time that DL/NW will take. I firmly believe they won't make the same mistakes next time.( operationally that is)

Since our Rallies in Phoenix and the district voting, it seems we're near a decision to radify AWA fleet workers under a TA. What it IS is a mystery until March 7. There's been hints that West and East will not be too happy.
Then, ALL will wait for the ultimate results! If we are on the same page, west/east we will than prevail against the odds!

Just hope AWA?USAIRWAYS is not swallowed up by the results of the GIANTS of the industry.

Sidebar negotiations happen all the time, quit acting like this is illegal or wrong. You guys act like you have been IAM members for 50 years. Wake up, you have to build upon contracts! You want what United has American Has Southwest has, it takes alot of time to get that.

And I can just see how you are going to blame Canale for the layoffs. I agree layoffs are coming with a transition BUT it's inevitable because consolidation is ALSO a reality and if fleet service wants to stall negotiations then YOU AND FLEET SERVICE will be responsible for YOUR company NOT being able to participate in mergers. You don't understand that Randy is trying to save jobs and what jobs are saved if the airline goes bankrupt and out of business?? If the employees don't work with the airline to help it transition so it can gain the investors then it will be left out in the cold.
I'm not on the negotiations team but Randy should merge both sides to save the company from YOUR SO CALLED NETWORK. And I've been following these District elections and NOBODY gives Randy the respect he deserves for keeping both United and US AIRWAYS afloat.

Districtfarce,

If you are Brickner, then take heed. With you and Roach hopping around in support of a candidate, you reveal much about an biased International. I wonder if R. Thomas Buffenbarger is aware of this. I wonder if he reads this post.

The fact that Canale is entering into sidebar negotiations speaks volumes about his intent to circumvent the membership and their representatives in negotiations. If the reality of consolidation is related to United/US Airways, shame on Randy and shame on you. Referring to out stations that will be outsourced and "MEMBERS" who will be laid off due to transition as "dead weight" necessary to be shed as a product of consolidation is a new low. If Randy is aware of a United/US Airways consolidation as a member of the United Board of Directors then we have a huge conflict of interests. Can you say DFR. Can you say Class Action Law Suit. We are probably talking about monetary amounts that would make the largest legal firms drool.

R. Thomas Buffenbarger, are you reading this! Randy has lost the confidence of the District. Despite Randy's games, members are showing up in droves to make a statement. We can't be intimidated anymore and we can't be bought.
Because of Randy, we know the International is paying a dear price by PAYING the TWU to go away. He did this because the membership was showing enough support to jump ship that something had to be done! You should have replaced him then, but no. Enter the Teamsters. Instead of gaining membership, you traded traded the Teamsters the former AMFA members by not running against them. That is why Hoffa agreed to leave. Next the IBEW. etc... etc... It must end now!
Dont you get it? Randy is driving us into the ground. We want nothing to do with him and we will do anything to get away from him.

I don't want to wait 50 years to get a good contract. I don't want to lose brothers and sisters during times of profit. I am tired of seeing scope leave the contract. Randy is giving away everything a good UNION is supposed to fight for and we all see it.
Don't refer to a "network" of workers attempting to communicate with each other as a negative. It's the only resourse we have against such a huge machine and you can't take it away.

Monday, everyone needs to call the International and blow the phone system apart. Buffenbarger needs to know how we have lost confidence in Randy and his negotiating tactics. Because of "no confidence" he needs to know that we want Randy removed from negotiations. We should not put up with his open threats any more.

Just like that phone commercial......CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW......GOOD!

Good call "rat tales"

I couldn't have said it better.........

districtlodge,
first welcome to the board. 2nd. "you have to build upon contracts! You want what United has American Has Southwest has, it takes alot of time to get that. " I was waiting for one of you guys to say that.. WE HAVE BEEN WAITING.. FOR YEARS

that's the CRAP YOU gave us back in the 90's on our first contract. SO guess what .. THE WAITING IS OVER PAY UP OR MOVE ON

down the road..

Rattales,
Don't blow a gaskett brother .. We don't need a good union man going to the hospital with a heart problem

Your post was dead on .. Gotta love when one of Randy's boys or girls gets on here it's better than any rally . it just shows

the whole system what type of people we have in charge. IT helps the cause immensely . SO thanks districtlodge for blowing

Canale . 😳 sorry his horn for us..

No, he's not going to merge the west into the east contract. His intended audience, when he said that were voters in LAS. His negotiations update also was intended towards voters as a veiled threat to define a 'no vote'. I posted the post as a 'chuckle' and as a heads up because this is what he's going to say a 'no' vote is for. We will inform the network of solidarity to his nonsense. Besides, if he was going to merge the west into the east, he would have done it two years ago. The company needs a bigtime deal for sure, he's not merging any groups since the leverage is with Labor at this point. Also, the mechanics aren 't merging west with east either.

A no vote on another 'dead on arrival' contract just means that Hemenway will have to come back to the table again [which he will as I have told you people] and clean his act up. I forsee a TA this spring after fleet earns respect. It will most likely mean that fleet has to vote out another stupid contract.

Hey I agree with your thoughts I look back to the US east first contract the members jumped really high to see the wage increase but the contract languge was weak. The workers later paid the price from just looking at the hourly rate of pay.

Well! Inspite of all the respect we deserve and the best TA we should get, the West fleet will, again, sit in the corner and wait for ALL the old US Airways, well deserving, highly respected fleet workers to get THEIR "just deserves!

Anyway, YOU fellas deserve it more than AWA.

Problem here is YOU (East) always made a decent living on even 19 an hour. How would you ever manage to survive on 15 an hour for a couple more years! Maybe You are the only ones with INFLATION worries. Maybe you have more bills to pay because you earn more and always have and only in the east have you gotten that way because of Better Times gone awry.

Sorry! You all have the biggest EGO'S going for this kinda work that we do.

Vote Everything Down Every Time! and US Airways will respect all of us because of Shooting Ourselves in the Foot. EGO'S all around.

DISTRICT 141 NOMINATIONS.........................................HISTORY IN THE MAKING

Wake up folks, "cheap suites" is starting his hate and decention rally. Looks like the
int'l in trying to do some backing but are keeping some what of a distant
stance. This is our time, our game and our voice, we decide our fate on any contract issues.
The agc's are yes men and jump when cheap suites tells them. Your best interest is your own,
watch it and nurture it.

PHX, hear this loud and clear, keep up the rallies and the pressure at the airport, work safe, call the press and let the local mgmt know your not chicken sh&t.

This thing is coming to a head, now is not the time to lay down. What do I want for Christmas?
A decent contract, "cheap suites" in a back alley with pf as his back up, and a night with
the belly warmer at a cheap hotel with cock roaches on the floor.

Solidarity my friends.........................SOLIDARITY

for the clt folks.,.
