AFA labor discussion (Work related)

Phl88 is a moron for taking on another work groups long standing differences. They would never stand by us when push came to shove.

Get it done - vote it down - get on with it. Voting it down is the most efficient way of getting to a contract that everyone agrees to.

Screw the pilots, they have already screwed themselves... good luck to them.

We do not need these ego-maniacs to get a no vote and a better contract.

For those of you who are still living in the the 1980's - well maybe you should pay attention to what is happening NOW!

If you don't like it vote it DOWN!

The pilots have nothing to help us with and are getting worse with every court decision.

What they have left themselves open to is not to our advantage.

Then you got a pay increase, better benefits, common crews, and duty rigs and DOH.
What were the f/a duty rigs at PAI again? If your going to use "revisionist history" atleast get some of it right..
I have a Piedmont Contract in my hand right now? It was not our last one.... need to dig it out. However,
it is dated 1981-1983 Its a very thin contract. Not like ours today. The best duty rig we had was 1-3.5
Also to my recollection a four day was only worth 16 hours. A three day was 12 hours. A two day was 8 hours. A one day 4.
Our min day was only four hours. Yes, we got a huge raise and improvements when we merged w/ USAir with our contract.
But everyone also has to remember that the fighting about who was the best airline went on in the beginning. Now, after all
of these years people have forgotten that, the PI/US merger had its quirks as well. So we just need to unify as one, because
it is inevitable. We can not change it. So we Unify and when/if a tentative is presented vote for your own individual needs.
Remember..... anything that is given up that we already have...... will never ever be reinstated. I know that for a fact.
I have not seen anything yet given back to us. And we all know that we have given up a huge chuck of change as well
as Benefits. So everyone must keep that in mind.

Let me be crystal clear that I am in no way a fan of prefbid. As for the bidding system we currently have it works for some but not for all. It creates the "haves" and the "have nots". The system of primary, secondary, augmentation, bidding, bidding, bidding and open and close dates is out of touch and certainly not practical and effecient. The f/a group needs an ability for senior f/a's to retire when they are ready, a liveable wage and lineholder/reserve system that works FOR ALL. I also believe that YOU should not only vote for YOU and your beliefs but for others. Ask yourself what your YES or NO vote may mean to the person below you. You're only as senior as the junior person below you. Don't fool yourself into voting for something thinking a particular contract section may not affect you. All flight attendants at US including our 40+ year stews are one merger away from losing a lot of seniority with a slotting. Also if a lot of junior stews got pissed and decided to start jumping ship.......ENJOY YOUR NEW RESERVE LIFE! ! ! !

I don't know where you were based but in GSO we had 28/29 hour 4 day trips. Yes, they had 0500 check ins and you got back on day 4 at 2300 plus you may have had to go to and from the west coast 2x in one trip but they paid a lot. Also I remember our rigs being 1-3. Somewhere I too have a PI contract I will dig out.

Now on to a different subject...is it rumor or fact that Lynn C. and Rob W. are now challenging the PHL election held last spring??? I heard they filed a complaint with the DOL. If it is true then they are wasting AFAs $$ (our dues money) to fight such an absurd claim. The numbers showed that those who won did so by mostly a large margin----I think there was one race that was close though.
Anyone know anything about this and if true what they are saying the grounds for a review are ???

they claim they were denied use of the bulletin boards in the crew rooms or something. AFA did a full investigation and found no merit so they took it to the DOL. If you go back you will see someone running for VP asked all election postings on the boards be reviewed for content and it was late in the game. There were a lot of people running and the board space was limited. The interim President and Vice decided there was not enough room for all to use the board per the bylaws with 8.5 x 11 so no one could use them. It would not be fair. Big deal they send out emails and stuffed mail files.funny I went through philly at the time and saw Rob's crap posted anyway. They look stupid and we just want in at all costs.

Rob and Lynn should really look at the numbers and see just how BIG the loss was for them. Listen, take the energy and time and invest it in the Union and Local you want so bad to represent and protect. HELP the current elected officials with their fight for fair representation of the flight attendants and the constant battle with the company. Lynn and Rob, you are wasting prescious money that is DUES money paid by hard working flight attendants. Rob, your election material was posted so why are you claiming you could not use the AFA board? NOBODY COULD USE IT YOU BABOON! ! ! ! This is a sign of sore losers and two individuals out to hurt the reps that got in. They claim justice? NO, the members didn't want you running the Local 70 office from Boston and NYC. Sound harsh? GOOD! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

The troubles you describe with splitting are very valid points and that is where the f/a group would have to ensure protections were set in stone. As for pref bid, even if the contract is voted down and the scheduling section is opened and tweaked a bit Pref Bid n't going anywhere. The pref bid language was technically written a long time ago but never implemented. I understand you don't want to get rid of the bidsheet but may I ask your seniority? The bidsheet will close TWO DAYS out so if you are a b/h that uses that as a commuting tool you will be OUT OF LUCK! ! ! ! If you have a four day on the 737 with a 5am checkin you will either get rid of it via the ETB or it's yours. Well you'd be able to use the AIL if you were the top 5%. And again keep in mind it closes two days out, not running at 12noon as it currently does. As for Savings for Doug, the sections closed CANNOT be reopened even if we replaced anyone currently on the JNC panel. Only after a NO vote can a section be opened. Keep this all in mind.
I have 25 years. When we vote this contract down we can make the changes we want. The bidsheet doesnt have to close 2 days out unless we vote for the change. As far as Pref Bidding stop drinking the Flores Koolaid. This is a joint contract and America West doesnt have Pref Bidding language in their contract. There is no reason why we have to keep it in a joint contract when one side doesnt have it. This contract as it stands will never pass. Doug isnt going to give up the necessary money to bribe us to vote for it. As I see it there will be many sections that will have to be reopened and tweeked before we get one that will pass.

so it is true ?? they really are going to waste the members dues by asking the DOL to get involved. Shame on them. When they are proven wrong and have wasted AFAs time and money they should be banned from being allowed to run again. You are correct. They don't want to commute and wanted to run the offices from home.....plus I'm sure Lynn doesn't want to have to now pay for parking in BOS. Too bad, so sad.

Whizbang don't get me wrong, I am by FAR a Mike kool aid drinker. I also don't believe pref bid to be a flight attendants friend at least when it comes to US. Nobody is a fan of the two day out AIL or anything else. The contract must be voted down and then the group can demand what they want. It isn't going to be easy and it certainly isn't going to be pretty. This is Mike and Carol's turd and they in their own minds believe this to be an acceptable piece of work they are ready to bring you. IT"S VOTE NO! PERIOD!

I was based in DCA.... we had no west coast....
I was also based in ROA.... we had no west coast..... Not until we merged with USAIr, did we have west cost trips.... OOPs I take that back in BWI we did.... I have a bunch of old trip pairings as proof...

Apollo, what are you doing here!!! Shoo!! Get out!! Don't make me spray water in your face again.

Sorry FA's, someone must have left the door open.

Actually, that was educational. I had no idea that the WEST was fed such bad information.

AFA's merger policy is pretty solid. AWA AFA should have been more straight with its members and not blathered on by specious information about fences. Hell our negotiating committe basically GAVE away our profit sharing to WEST just to ensure that there would be no fences, never realizing that it would take eons to have a merged contract.

Now we have another set of dubiously moraled individuals coming to cost PHL f/as money and make us look like idiots. Wonderful. Geez AFA, can't you clean it up?

Newsflash: WE LIKE TG! She's done more in a few months than her predecessors in years and she's a person of integrity and gumption.
