AFA labor discussion (Work related)

You will never see what we had before..NEVER!!!!!!!

[quote/]Get use to it my friend..You do have the option of looking elsewhere for employment...Trust me....It gets NO better.....[/quote]

You heard it here first, stewardesses. Throw yourselves against a rock. It's over.

Unfortunatley Fliboi, I am sure there are a lot of you, but there are a lot of F/As that haven't just been hanging out for the last eight years too.

How many F/As do you fly with have second jobs/ side lines/ are in school?

If they are under 50, they ought to be doing one of the above.

Leverage is being able to stand firm and let things get painful for the opposition. Thank goodness, we have enough F/As with the backbone to to that and who have prepared for this as well as the very possible demise of US. Please do not presume to tell any F/A about the "real" world, many of us are hip deep in it.

AWA hasn't realized but they ran out of wolves. US F/As have heard a cry wolf way too many times to believe it now. Can't negotiate a fair and equitable contract and survive?

Okay, shut it down. What good are you to me otherwise? Five years later, US f/as are not going to accept the status quo.

That is what you should be asking yourself. If you're that afraid of the "real world" and content to settle for whatever nonsense is served up to you, perhaps you need to re-examine your self esteem and qualifications and modify accordingly.

US executives have a problem. They have become the basket case of the industry, they want another merger when they haven't managed to complete what could have been a relatively simple one had they not been so cheap. Rather than buckle down and do it, apparently they prefer to muddle around and trip over pennies.

Fine, we'll wait.

"These are the times that try men's souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated." Thomas Paine in The Crisis.

Beautiful words to remember as we see how a brave few challenged the CLT election and won. As we see the beginning of a change in PHL now that the nominations have begun there. Yes, men and women, we see that our group has finally had enough of the status quo and ineffable malfeasance that has permeated our existence.

Fight for a better quality of life; fight for dignity; fight for a better contract; fight for better leadership.

To those in CLT, you have a second chance; ballots have been mailed for the rerun of the LEC President's office.
To those in PHL, choose wisely and vote accordingly.

I am all for an equitable contract and we deserve it, but please, if you can tell me where I can get a job that I can work 6 days a month with full medical benefits, without a bully of a boss breathing down my neck 8 hours a day, please enlighten us and sign me up.............been out there and done it..........it is not pretty. Not as easy as you might think.

Just wanted to remind everyone that the ballots for the CLT LEC Election were sent to your homes by the Dept. of Labor. Olease remember to vote and get those ballots in by Feb. 4th, at 10:00 am.
VOTE!! its your union.

Maybe I am misreading your post. Are you trying to say that Flight Attendants only work six days a month? I guess you are pointing out that some (read reserve) Flight Attendants may only FLY six days a month during slow periods. This does not mean they are not working. Come on now, you need to tell the whole story. They are on call 24 hours a day when they are on duty. They are on the beckon call of your company. They have to be there yesterday when they get that call. You might not think they are "working" but I think you would be wrong. Yes, they might be able to go to the store or out to eat during their on duty time but they have to drop everything when your company calls. They are not on vacation or sipping martinis (or they shouldn't be) during this time. Funny thing is that most other businesses that have you on call like that actually pay you "on call" pay. Something maybe they should consider since you are in negotiations!

You are right that the grass is not always greener but to elude to Flight Attendants living the life of luxury is pretty disingenuous.

I sure do hope that working 6 days a month wasn't directed toward reserves. Now not to create a blockholder/reserve war some that are pretty senior can fly 40 hours which could be 2 trips with tons of vacation. Where else can you work that little and receive full benefits and travel? I'm not supporting the notion that this job is cake because it by NO MEANS is a cake job. It may be a terrible environment to be jobless BUT I'll venture to say that the recession hit airline employees YEARS ago. Management can take their "poor" story and sell it to somebody else because the flight attendants aren't buying it. Nobody seriously believes they will see a return to all work rules and benefits lost but certainly won't settle for anywhere NEAR what has been offered. Those days are over.

Okay, so I fall into this category but I actually fly seven days a month and retain all my benefits 😛 . Why should this cause a blockholder/reserve war? We all voted for the same contract, right?

Your right, this should not be causing blockholder/reserve wars. That is why I asked if that is what the original poster was referring to. I never even thought about blockholders flying forty hours. Should not make a difference either way because that is just how the job is. Tis not a 9 to 5, 40 hour work week that most can comprehend. My understanding is that at some airlines you can swap trips and drop trips to friends and theoretically not fly at all in a month as long as the work is covered. Wow, an extra six days off!

Besides, those that work forty hours would have to work eight days as I understand it! Listen, the issues should be focusing on the future contract. Does not matter what is here today if you don't pay attention to what is negotiated (away) tomorrow.

You see, that is just the problem. No offense to those that can drop to 40, use vacation and hardly fly as I WISH I could. Maybe someday I'll have mine. Hmmmm 🙁 There are pretty senior f/a's that do that to keep their medical/dental etc while the rest of see our contract gutted to protect them. All many of them want to do is retire....MAKE IT POSSIBLE! ! ! Then we tell the JNC we don't like it and like a Jedi on Star Wars they wave their hand at you and tell you "you do and that it's change for the good". We all understand the job market is tough and I for one certainly appreciate my job but won't settle for less. As I stated earlier most flight attendants experienced their "OWN" recession with two bankruptcies and multiple rounds of concessions. It became harder to pay their rent/mortgage, pay their utility/credit card bills, tuitions, food and filling their tanks. So I don't care WHAT management says they feel is fair or need as we WON'T be settling for anything they offer. This is a management team that already believes you make more than you should. Don't expect them to offer much outside of CHAOS! ! !BRING IT ON! 😉

I'm sorry, I should have clarified that...I wasn't talking about reserves at all, been there as well and know what being on call is all about. I'm talking about dropping trips on ETB, a little vacation or a sick............yes I and many of my friends work under 10 days a month. That's all I was saying..........can't find that anywhere else.

.......BINGO. And, they believe that the Flight Attendant Group will do a "good job" regardless of what they're paid. The last EIGHT YEARS proved them right, now didnt it?
