Hey there's something i think should be adressed by our union . i read in the new company news letter that we're doing away with the sky caps and the ticket counter people will be taking those postions ? what gives , that's BAGGAGE handling ... now if the ticket counter people want to work the kiosk that's fine , but if there are people assiting the PAX it needs to be US .... this needs to be a joint operation and our union needs to make a point about this !!! please addresses this and be forcefull about it ..
This has never been a Fleet position. What happened is that when the CWA realised the skycaps collected fees from the passengers they realised it was their job contractually. If this is a Fleet job why don't we have ramp agents taking the bags from the customers at the counter? And what do you care anyway? You already said your job and most everyones you know is safe.
Secondly , i'm tired of the organge tabard getting in the way of brining a plane into the gate ... we're sometimes taking delays of several minutes while our agents scramble to find an organge vest because we can be written up if we don't wear one when we bring in an A/C .. and this is in BROAD DAYLIGHT!!!! now on the PM shift ok i can see the saftey issue but not on the AM ! if this company is serious about being the number one for on time arrivals then i think it's high time to bend on this rule .... i can see the pilots , they can see us , i can see my fellow agents ... why don't we speed things up a bit and allow some leway so we can get things going! rock and roll baby ! but really this is a serious issue , times have changed we need to be more efficent , so i hope the company will really consider this .
Uhhh... Orange Vest. Required. At gate 10 minutes before inrange with all needed equipment. Required. Do one and you do the other. Vests do increase visibility, even in the daytime. Most airports that require vests (and airports do sometimes have the policy like LHR and I think ORD) noted a substantial decrease after enacting the policy. Given the way runners and caterers drive I'll take any extra bit of safety I can. But the bottom line is still that if you don't HAVE your vest with you when you meet a plane for arrival you DESERVE the writeup because you reported to your assigned work area UNPREPARED.
