Hey there's something i think should be adressed by our union . i read in the new company news letter that we're doing away with the sky caps and the ticket counter people will be taking those postions ? what gives , that's BAGGAGE handling ... now if the ticket counter people want to work the kiosk that's fine , but if there are people assiting the PAX it needs to be US .... this needs to be a joint operation and our union needs to make a point about this !!! please addresses this and be forcefull about it ..

This has never been a Fleet position. What happened is that when the CWA realised the skycaps collected fees from the passengers they realised it was their job contractually. If this is a Fleet job why don't we have ramp agents taking the bags from the customers at the counter? And what do you care anyway? You already said your job and most everyones you know is safe.

Secondly , i'm tired of the organge tabard getting in the way of brining a plane into the gate ... we're sometimes taking delays of several minutes while our agents scramble to find an organge vest because we can be written up if we don't wear one when we bring in an A/C .. and this is in BROAD DAYLIGHT!!!! now on the PM shift ok i can see the saftey issue but not on the AM ! if this company is serious about being the number one for on time arrivals then i think it's high time to bend on this rule .... i can see the pilots , they can see us , i can see my fellow agents ... why don't we speed things up a bit and allow some leway so we can get things going! rock and roll baby ! but really this is a serious issue , times have changed we need to be more efficent , so i hope the company will really consider this .

Uhhh... Orange Vest. Required. At gate 10 minutes before inrange with all needed equipment. Required. Do one and you do the other. Vests do increase visibility, even in the daytime. Most airports that require vests (and airports do sometimes have the policy like LHR and I think ORD) noted a substantial decrease after enacting the policy. Given the way runners and caterers drive I'll take any extra bit of safety I can. But the bottom line is still that if you don't HAVE your vest with you when you meet a plane for arrival you DESERVE the writeup because you reported to your assigned work area UNPREPARED.

When was the last time YOU as a fleet service agent checked a bag at the ticket counter. Answer : NEVER

It's called scope and language something that you never thought of . Just the wage bait.

well strap in there fella cause your gonna see a whole lot of WTF things happening and scratching your

head wondering . why why why . I'll repeat myself one more time .. It's called scope and language.

but not to worry Your days of living under the pos ta are numbered any way .

When is an orange vest to be worn on the ramp? Is it when you are waving in a plane? Pushing one out? Driving a beltloader? Running bags? Dumping lavs? Walking from gate to gate? Hooking up the water? Loading or unloading? When good people, when?

Considered, denied.

What is a an organge tabard?

There has to be a community college near you with ESL courses.

We have had many issues in our station with the orange vest. The GOM states that it is only required during the arrival or departure sequence (i.e.-wingwalking/marshalling) into and out of the gate. It also states that it is NOT required for normal servicing of the aircraft. Our local Mgmt. has implemented a rule where if you set foot outside, you must have it on. A little extreme, but most people comply. Kinda silly when you are in the bagroom away from aircraft, but it is what it is.

I think we as rampers, instead of wearing orange vests/tabards... we should wear a set of fake 36 DDs. the pilots would see these way before the vests. Safety would be paramount. We can also fill the fake breast with water, for those in hot weather stations, coffee in the cold weather stations and whiskey in prodominately Irish stations.
Now that's an Idea :groovy:

Had an aircraft swap in CLT. Aircraft was parked at the gate with the hose hooked up. The cabin temp was 90 degrees so I started the APU and began my preflight checks. A mech walks in and says to shut the APU because the hose is hooked up and is providing cold air - he had his hand near the air vent to show me.

So I reach up and turn off the recirc fans and the flow stops. I then point out to him that just like a garden hose - if it's kinked, it's useless. I explained that the hose on this particular aircraft was kinked in at least two places. You need flow and pressure, not just cold temperature.

He got my point and left. I don't know what the answer is. When I do the walk around I try to take the kinks out, but it happens too often and not that easy when the hose is inflated - plus it messes up my nice shoe shine. I have written this up numerous times. Perhaps we need another hose design or configuration which can attach kink free to different acft types.

PHX is better at this than CLT or PHL.

Untill then, the APU's continue to run. Fuel north of $140.

speedbird,
part of the problem in clt with the hose is there too long they still have the extensions on them

from the md80 days . the city and company have been told about this for years . but don't want to switch them

out. thus having surplus hose laying around

Tim,

What station gets the "All Nelson Award"? Have the votes been "officially tallied" yet? Will the trophy be presented at "christmas in October"? These things are top priority. LOL

Hey Oman,

You are getting slow. Top spot for me!!!!!! :bleh:

Tim,
Not sure what the Nelson is but my vote is for CLT. I'm going to start the butt kissing now so when I get there everybody will love me.

as the orange vests go they are a pain in the arse! I asked an FAA inspector about them couple yrs ago, he said we should wear them for despatch, but he also said that the FAA will NOT fine the company for non-compliance! P.S. it's a bloodbath here in LAS!

Why? What's going on? 😱

Dude, I might go there tomorrow, I haven't been to Vegas in weeks.

The orange vest are a safety issue. Under no circumstances should safety ever be compromised for any reason.
